Summary: Teacher loves Alibrandi
Review: I teach English as a second language to teenagers and have found Marchetta's treatment of cross-cultural and inter-generational issues to be an excellent vehicle for teaching language and culture. So I've developed a kit of language support resources for nESB learners for a very reasonable price! For more info, email me: Jennifer_Mac@bigpond.com

Summary: Wish I could have read books like this for school...
Review: I picked this book up and was immediately caught. I notice that other reviewers have had to read this book for school. I only wish I could have read things so realistic and relevant in school. Books with characters going through problems similar to mine, characters that I could identify with and care about. I look forward to reading more from this author. If you had to read this in school, you're lucky--try having to read "The Learning Tree"!.

Summary: Change of hobbies
Review: Honestly, reading novels wasn't any of my interests. I had only been forced to read this book due to the HSC. When I started reading this book, I just couldn't stop. It brought out a mixture of many issues in life.. especially about relationships. The characters seem so real to me that even I fell for Jacob (Josie's boyfriend) and John (Josie's friend). It pointed out some points about racism and ethnic backgrounds and the issue I loved most was about love. Oh, It's so great that not even words can describe. I recommend it to be read by anyone

Summary: Just one word..
Review: Looking for Alibrandi, just one word "brilliant" I loved every page of it... it just proves you don't need explosions and death to entertain yourself. You'll find all characters magnificiantly crafted. A book about discovering one's self.. something all can relate too.

Summary: Paula's Review
Review: I really enjoyed reading this book. I like how the author of the book; Melina Marchetta portrayed the difficulties and anxieties children and teenagers are faced with if they grow up between two cultures. I also like the characters in the book; they are very human and therefore I was able to relate to the characters. I like how Josephine's character changes and develops in the book. In the beginning of the book Josephine seems to be a rather lively and outspoken girl. At the end of the book she is more mature and is able to contemplate the consequences of her actions due to so much having changed in her life. The only characteristic that I don't like about Josephine Alibrandi is that she is melodramatic and therefore her behavior is really annoying in some parts of the book. I definitely recommend this book to everybody and particularly teenagers that are growing up between two cultures.

Summary: You absolutely have to read this
Review: This book was so wonderful. I do not know HOW Melina Marchetta got a hold of my diary and printed it (just kidding) but honestly, sometimes I just had to shut the book because it was too shocking how it related to my life. Then, of course, I reopened it and continued to read. It took me a total of maybe four or five hours to read the book. I could not put it down. I loved it. It is so incredibly awesome. If you are even considering it, PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and read it!

Summary: One of the best
Review: I am not from Australia, and I know nothing about Australian culture. I have never been to Australia, and I did not even know that there was a large Italian community there. But I know how it feels to be from another culture, and to be confused about heritage. This book helped me learn a bit about Australia. I really like Melinda's writing style. And Josephine's story is true and powerful. I hope it makes you happy:)

Summary: A passionate and interesting book.
Review: I had to read this book for English and expected a book that couldn't relate to the struggles teens have to face. However, I was shocked, but delighted in finding that this book managed to write about these problems in a way that was human. The underlaying themes- racism, multiculturalism, fitting in socially, dealing with illegitimicy and tradition, are beautifully dealt with. The way in which she discovers her past helps us to think their may be a future. I strongly recommend this book to everyone.
