Rating: Summary: A real treat for all ages! Simply Wonderful! Review: Always optimistic though never unrealistic and not too idealist! This creative book offers lots of wisdom and loads of wit. Behind the clever rhymes and cute illustrations the message is clear; Life isn't always easy but the hard spots never last forever. This book promotes perseverance, self-reliance and ambition in fun and simple poetry. Kids of all ages (since everyone is someone's kid) will gain something by reading or being read this book. Profound versus are found on every page, but the best, in my opinion, are the ones about the surrealistic and symbolic "Waiting Place", which end with these lines. "Waiting, perhaps for their Uncle Jake, or a pot to boil, or a Better Break, or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants, or a wig with curls, or Another Chance. Everyone is just waiting."
Rating: Summary: A must read for every child and adult! Review: This book contains a very powerful inspirational message for children and adults alike. It contains great wisdom about the trials and tribulations of life with a powerful message of life. It contains a warning that we all need to heed: Except when you don't. Because sometimes you won't' Something we all have to accept and deal with. Always at the basis is a very powerful message of hope : "Kid , you'll move mountains". Unlike "Solla Sollew" , Dr Seuss acknowledges in this book that sometimes when all the options are unattractive we need to head right out of town. And how right he is. And as in all of Dr Seuss' remarkable books , it is filled with the most beautiful , dreamlike illustrations. A must read for every child and adult!
Rating: Summary: Think Outside the Box. Review: Dr. Seuss is considered to be one of America's best "children's" authors. However, I don't think the good doctor ever intended to write solely for children. Some of his books were clearly written for youngsters, but most of them, I believe, were written for everyone. Nowhere is this more apparent than in OH, THE PLACES YOU'LL GO! The book is often given as a gift to students as they graduate. But the messages the book contains aren't just for the transitional times of our lives. They are things to remember wherever we go, and whatever we do. Children can profit from reading and listening to the book being read. And sure, the book is filled with the usual zany illustrations and a few never-before-heard-of creatures, situations, and places that kids will enjoy looking at and which may possibly ignite their imagination. But make no mistake, this isn't really a children's book. Kids should be free to be kids and it is only when they are forced to grow up that locations like Lurch, Slump, and The Waiting Place become familiar places. Overall, children cannot understand and comprehend the complexities of life that are described in the book; only adults can do that. Nevertheless, like all great "children's" literature, this is a story for adults, but filled with lessons that if we remember and have ingrained within us when we are young, it will help us succeed 98 and 3/4ths of the time.
Rating: Summary: Inspirationally uplifting! Review: I love this book! In his inimitable Dr. Seuss style, you are told that you have your own mind, and you have your own destiny, and you ultimately have the power within you to determine where your brains and feet will take you. Life is a choice. You can let it happen to you or you can experience it on your own terms. It is a wonderful thing for children of all ages to be aware of. I wish I would have read this book 20 years ago! I read it every night, and I love reading it to my niece and nephew! Dr. Seuss ROCKS!
Rating: Summary: My favorite book since I was 6 Review: This book has been the inspiration to most children at my age. It was the basic founding and principle for understanding about differences with the youth of our time. It shows that there are hardships in life, and not everything is perfect from a child's eyes. It really does tell the truth and expose the meaningless words our parents told us when were younger children. Being 17 now, there is a positive outlook on life based on this book. That's why it will always be my favorite.
Rating: Summary: For children 1 to 100 Review: Inspirational yet honest, and always rhythmically rollicking, 'Oh, the Places You'll Go!' is a perfect sendoff for children ages 1 to 100. It's a great book for people entering any new phase of life. Kindergartners, graduate students, newlyweds, new employees - all will glean pearls of wisdom about their expansive future. I also highly recommend "Open Your Mind, Open Your Life: A Book of Eastern Wisdom" by Taro Gold.
Rating: Summary: Move over Who Moved my Cheese - Dr Suess did it better Review: When I was a little girl, I thought Dr. Suess was Hop on Pop, Green Eggs and Ham, the Grinch, and Horton Hears a Who. I had no idea that he was so prolific, nor did I know he wrote books with political and ideological messages. So I was bowled over when I discovered this timeless classic, and then wondered why it hadn't been required reading somewhere along the line. The message - an exciting world of possibilities just waiting for you to make your mark on them, tempered with the warning that obstacles will happen - is great for kids, but probably even more poignant for adults, young and old, who are on their way and may have encountered "the waiting place" or other such snares. Couple an inspiring message with Dr. Suess' colorful rhythm and rhyme, and you have a book that is far more readable, and certainly more memorable than the corporate megalith, Who Moved My Cheese. If I had my way, this book would be required reading for every high school senior, about to enter the world (and maybe for all those corporate mice stuck in the "waiting place" looking for their cheese).
Rating: Summary: Isn't Dr. Seuss a trip? Review: You 'd sware he's on acid. I bought this book for my kid cause...well,.. she's on acid, she's just like her mother. No, It really is fantastic. I applaud you Seuss,..."Let's hear it for the Seuss everybody?" Dr.N
Rating: Summary: Oh the idea's you'll get if only you read this book... Review: Yet another great learning experience by Dr. Suess. In ths book he tells kids that if they reach for their goals and never give up on trying that they will go where they want in life. Kids don't know that though. They just know that if they try they might get to go to some place in the book. The best line, and the last line in the book is...And NEVER mix up your right foot with your left," and things should work out. How true is that if you put it in a more complex way?
Rating: Summary: Why do they let other people write in Dr Seuss' name!!?? Review: The only similarity "Oh, the Places You'll Go" has to Geisel's work is the repetition and the drawing (which isn't up to his standards.) This book isn't worth reading to my 3 year old, my 6 year old, nor myself. It seems to have nothing but a philosophical agenda to push. It goes off on too many tangents - "You'll go frightening places", but doesn't resolve them for the little kid. They have used big words to make a rhyme, where Geisel himself would make up a creative word instead. This stuff is nothing like Geisel and just confuses the buying public. Certainly Geisel was an artist of the first magnitude, but one would think a professional writer could have put a week's worth of thought into the writing and come up with a book that flows better and uses children's level words.
