Rating: Summary: My son asks for this book at bedtime Review: I have been reading this book to my son since he was newborn. He has always been captured by the illustrations. As he grew older he began to recognize the animals. One day, he pointed to the main character, who is not named, and I made up an easy name, "That is Bob". To this day he asks for "Bob" at bedtime. This book also got us through a rough time. My son was hiting his friends at daycare and causing distress. We began to talk about being gentle all the time, but one day I noticed "Bob" was petting a big green animal where the book goes, / you'll face up to your problems / whatever they are. I began to say, "Oh! Look! Bob is gentle" and I would pet the animal. After a few nights it caught on and we go through the gentle routine to this day. We also like the waiting place. I used to take a lot of time to ask if he sees the kitty, umbrella, baby, etc. Nowdays, my son tells me where things are. I love this book for so many reasons and I feel the positive outlook toward the future is evenly examined with overcoming obstacles. We always end the book chanting "So get on your way!" together.
Rating: Summary: Oh how much you should know Review: The 'timelessness' of Dr Seuss' books is epitomized in "Oh the places you'll go". I read it when I was 4, again at 13, again at 21 and now in my late 20s and going through a career change, I've reached for its ageless wisdom yet again. Interpret the messages how you may whatever success means for you (materialistic, social status, spiritual happiness), it is a story that reaches all ages, all values, at all levels, cultures, religions and communities. An Incredibly uplifting tale that at the same time acknowledges our reality and foibles. A book that is the essence of human being.
Rating: Summary: Good gift for teens & young adults too.... Review: This is a wonderful book! I give it to all graduates! My sister sent some words from it to me while I was at boot camp about 4 1/2 years ago. It was so encourageing!
Rating: Summary: A Must for Graduates Review: I give this book to each of my nieces and nephews as they graduate and they all love it. They have told me that they take it out many times and reread it. They grew up with Dr Seuss so they trust him. He tells them they will encounter many things on their journey through life and all may not be rosy but they will make it if they don't get their feet mixed up! I love this book.
Rating: Summary: Places you'll Go! Review: "Congratulations! Today is your day. You're off to Great Places! You're off and away!" Oh, the Places You'll Go!, by Dr. Seuss is an inspirational book and characterized by uplifting messages that transcend age and encourage positive attitudes and self esteem to generations of people. Whether you are graduating high school or college, getting a job or retiring, this book will provide timeless messages that evoke and encourage a beneficial attitude throughout the generations. I have read this book many times and each time the memories of events passed are brought to mind, as well as hope for events to come. "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And you are the guy who'll decide where to go." Seuss reflects positive attitude and self-esteem using his prose to encourage the message he is trying to get across to readers. He uses simple words and rhymes to enforce the idea; a book for the ages. This book is easily readable for anyone from the age of four to eighty four and applicable to the times in between. It can be especially relevant and helpful during transitional phases. Seuss inspires, that you have the ability to take yourself places and make something of yourself. "You'll join the high fliers who soar to high heights." Oh, the Places you'll Go!, shows that you can go to high heights in life as long as you maintain a positive attitude and esteem you can accomplish anything. Seuss' message also includes, "but sometimes you won't." Life isn't always easy, there will be, "bang-ups and hang-ups", along the way. But the point he makes is to not let those get you down and get out of your rut, escape those unhappy times for good times to come. "Oh, the places you'll go! There is fun to be done! There are points to be scored. There are games to be won." Whether you get hung up, still be positive for there is something that will happen which will be good to you. The message Seuss gives his readers about achieving goals and gaining success and happiness are timeless and will be prevalent for many years to come. "and will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed.) KID, YOU'LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!" I have read Oh, the Places you'll Go!, many times in the past year. When there are times of transition or struggle in my life the uplifting message Seuss reminds me to get out of my rut, get out of "the waiting place" and move on to the better things to come. I received this book as a high school senior as a present for graduation because it encourages me to think that there are bigger and better things to be achieved so I shouldn't wait for something to happen, but go out and make it happen. Oh, the Places you'll Go!, by Dr. Seuss engulfs the imagination and provides a vision of success and achievement for people of all ages at any time in their live. It is a book that transcends age and time, in which Seuss provides many people the opportunity to read this book and provide them with positive attitudes and achievement. "So... be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O'Shea, you're off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your Mountain is waiting. So... get on your way!
Rating: Summary: Oh, the Places You'll Go! Review: Excellent purchase as graduation gift! A personal note on the front wishing them a safe journey to college or trade school or in persuing a career is the perfect finishing touch. If you always give money to the grad, consider this book as an addition to the gift. Parents, it's a great idea for your own kids. As a former high school English teacher and mom, it was the standard gift for all the kids, and we still get thanks and smiles from young adults who loved the book!
Rating: Summary: Teaches kids not to be affraid of new things! Review: Oh, the Places You'll Go! by Seuss, Dr. Seuss is a wonderfull tale that is a good guide for anyone entering a new world, e.g., kindergarten, college or the work force. Dr. Seuss is not painting a picture by using rose tinted glasses. In fact, in the story he candidly suggest that sometimes on is going to fail and to learn from these experiences. The illustrations my seem naive , but the message is not only for the childs ear or mind. Dr Seuss is here able to write for all ages and that is what this book so appealing.
Rating: Summary: "Set a goal to memorize this book"! Review: The first time I heard this fabulous book read was only a few years ago, as part of a talk. Since that time I've wondered who wrote these wonderful and witty words. Dr. Seuss, you've got to be kidding? This man was a literary genius! This is a simple 5 minute read, a book in which no one is above reading. Make it a goal to burn the words of this book into your memory. Give it as a gift. Read it to children. Write it's words on a card and carry them with you, and read it- especially if you feel as though life's got you down. p.s. The art work is great too!
