Rating: Summary: A Book for Everyone's Library Review: My wife bought this book and it became my daughter's favorite. My wife cried everytime she read it. I decided to read it to my daughter and I too, cried. I had Rober Munsch on my radio show and interviewed him about the book. The book was written to honor the 2 still births that his wife had in two years. In fact the book is dedicated to these two babies. When I asked him about the mother going across town with a ladder to see her son, he explained that it should not be taken literally but rather figuratively that a mother will always be there for love WHENEVER! Mr Munsch read the book on the air and we had a bank of 5 callers waiting to talk to him. None of them could because they were all in tears. I feel sorry for the reviewers who call this book perverse. Read past the words. Open your heart. A wonderful book.
Rating: Summary: Great! Review: To the lady who suggested that this book was about something other than the love a mother has for a child; you are wrong. When she suggested that this book is a metaphor for sexual relations, you are demented. If you knew the story behind the book, I think you might open your eyes.
Rating: Summary: Heart-Felt...Awesome Review: I've been in the education business for many years now...from Grade school to University. As a Professor, I let my Freshmen class read the book and do an analysis. The book is so powerful that I get several students 'misty'. When a book engraves lasting memories...you know it has to be 5 STARS.
Rating: Summary: Can a Children's book really make a grown woman cry? Review: Wow. This book physically moved me. Here I am, a busy professional woman, squeezing a book in between picking up my 6 yr old son from the sitter and picking up lumber samples for my architect husband and cooking dinner--when all of a sudden I am hit with a torrent of emotion (okay, so I'm a frustrated cheap romance novelist wanne-be). I started reading this book and darned if I didn't have to almost suppress a sob. Pretty soon I was turning away from my son to hide the tears. By the time we finished the book I was outright sobbing. This book is just plain touching. How can a man put into words what only a Mom can understand? And I thought it was entertainment for my son. Hah!
Rating: Summary: It's a tear jerker! Review: This book is so sweet! I can honestly say I have never read it without crying. It makes you realize how quickly your little ones grow and not to take your time with them for granted. It makes a wonderful gift for any new parent!
Rating: Summary: One of the best family books ever! Review: Family is very important to me and I think this book hits the importance of family right on the nose. I first discovered the book when my father gave it to my grandmother for Christmas about 4 years ago. Ever since then it has become my favorite Children's book. It is the type of book you could LOVE FOREVER! Also for those who find it disturbing---do not take it so literally. Look more at the symbolism of a mother's (or father's) deep love for a child!
Rating: Summary: Sophomoric Treatment of Mother/Son Relationship... Review: Sorry, but I have to agree with many of the other reviewers. While I do not agree that this tale borders on perversion (as it is metaphorical rather than literal), the author's treatment of the maternal bond is so lacking in subtlety and deftness that it effectively nullifies any sentimentality which would be otherwise evoked. In sum, a sweet idea eclipsed by sophomoric execution.
Rating: Summary: This book is wonderful! Review: I bought this book for my daughter when she was two years old. She is almost eight and we STILL read it all the time. It is the best book I have ever bought for her. This is definately something she will save for her children!!
Rating: Summary: A Beautiful Book; Don't Take it Literally Review: This is a beautiful book that has brought tears to the eyes of everyone I know who has read it. The reviewers who are bashing the book need to take a deep breath and realize that it's not all supposed to be taken literally!! Good grief! The mother's continued desire to rock her son is humorous, not bizarre. Some people need to lighten up and see the book for what it is - a beautiful, touching book not to be taken so literally that you miss the point of the story.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding book about what is truly important in Life. Review: My very best friend shared this book with me that his dear mother gave him as a gift. What a great gift. I cried the first time I read it, as well as the second time my friend read it to his own son. This book is great for any age, I'm an adult and I bought copies for my own mother, brother and sister. The pictures are unique, the message is one of love and caring, and realizing how precious life, family and loved ones truly are. In our all too busy world this book brings things into the correct perspective. My heart was truly touched by this book. Not since Charlotte's Web or the Chronicles of Narnia that I read when I was a child did a book touch me so much. No matter how many times one could read this book, it's guaranteed to bring a tear to your eye and to most importantly really make you think. I loved it, sincerely, and would reccomend it to anyone.I'm a better person for reading it.
