Summary: Creepy
Review: I agree with most of the other 1 star reviews. The topic is depressing and way too heavy for small children. Who wants to talk about death and ageing at bedtime? This seems like a tough way to get to unconditional love. My sister gave this to my son so I cannot throw it away as I don't want to offend her. My wife also hates it.

In addition to the above the book is poorly executed. The drawings are crude and the text is clumsily written.

I think this book could be used in some sort of personality profile. It is fun to ask other parents what they think of this book.

Summary: It's creepy
Review: My mother in law gave this to her grown son after we were married, WEIRD. I just sort of tucked it into my daughter's book case...I just re-read it tonight. It is one more pathetic attempt for a psycho mother to cling to her son. Gross. Who IS the woman who wrote it? Did she actuall DO this? I would NEVER buy this as a gift. If I were the boy in that book I'd be in some serious therapy.

Summary: A beautiful book for parents
Review: The first time I heard this book was in college, during a Children's Literature class. The entire class was in tears.

It struck me as a beautiful sentiment and a simple way to remember how much you love your child even during the most frustrating times of their life. This is such an imporant thing to know and remember, especially when there is such abuse in the world.

I now buy this book as a gift for each person I know when they are expecting their child. Again, as a reminder of how imporant children are to our lives. Each person who has received it is moved and thankful, stating the same "this is the best book I've ever read"

I highly recommend Love You Forever to you and anyone you know with children.

Summary: Sing It
Review: In the excitement of expecting our first child my husband and I bought this book. The first time we read it we were nearly in tears.

In the story the mother has a new baby and sings to him a beautiful song about her love. Then as the child grows during the day he gets into typical mischief in accordance with his age - 2 years old, young boy, teenager. Still, at night while he is sleeping she sings her lovely song.

The boy grows like all boys do and moves away. Still the mother loves him (in the book this is demonstrated by her continuing to sing to him at night) - apparently some reviews don't know the meaning of the word "metaphor". Nonetheless the mother's love is with her son wherever he goes.

As time passes the mother grows old and her son demonstrates his love with his version of the same song.

The last part of the book is even more touching as it demonstrates how the mother's love of her son is then passed down from him to the next generation.

I sing all the verses in this book when I read it to my children. They seem to like this book most between the ages of 2 and 4. However adults and even teenagers have told me "the way you read that makes me want to cry." I assure you it is not my voicing of the words, but the words themselves that are full of emotion.

When I give this book to a parent I advise them to "sing" the parts written as song. I've yet to meet anyone who didn't love this book.

Summary: this is a sick book
Review: As mentioned in the review, the mother sings a song "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, As long as I'm living, my baby you'll be." When the child in the story is young, this is very appropriate. But when the child grows into manhood, the mother goes to his house at night. When she sees that all the lights are off, she uses a ladder to climb into his window, cuddle him and sing the song. This is sick! I'm not sure what this book is trying to promote, but I doubt that stalking, breaking and entering is something we want children to learn. In addition, rocking the grown man while saying "As long as I'm living, my baby you'll be" is a little warped.

I think the story is tender when it comes to singing to an infant and a child. But, climbing into the grown man's window just turned me off. I could NOT like the story from that point on. In fact, I couldn't even give this book away, I needed to throw it away so no child will see this.

Summary: Only Book I've Ever Thrown Out
Review: This is the only book I've ever actually thrown in the trash. Read the reviews to judge for yourself... even the 5-star reviewers rave about how it makes them cry every time they read it. What child needs to see their mother crying all the time? Can't we just let our kids be kids without having to lay on the heavy-duty stuff? Making them think of the time when their mother will lay dying? There are better, happy ways to convey what love is without laying on the concern and guilt that this book brings. Read it for yourself if you need your own reminder about what love is... in my opinion, children don't need it.

Summary: I Still Remember It...
Review: My mother bought me this book when I was young, and used to read it to me all the time. It was one of the first books I was able to read on my own. When I went to college, we started fighting more. For Christmas, I bought her this book to show her I'll always love her, no matter how I act. She loved it.

Summary: She still remembers
Review: I bought this book for my oldest daughter, who is 17yrs old, when she was little. To this day she still remembers. It was her favorite book to read to her, to read together, and for her to read on her own. That was years ago, now I am buying this book for my 2 yr old. I'm sure she will love it just the same.

Summary: a sweet classic
Review: A book that you will always remember from a child to a grown up that shows just how much love a mother has for a son, even as he grows into a adult. It is a caring story that will warm your heart as you share it with those you love. It is a perfect bedtime story for the little ones.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The sweetest story
Review: Once a year since the book came out my teachers would read us this book. When I finally took it home my mother cried. She buys as many copies as she can gives them to all of the mothers she knows.
