Summary: You'll Love it or Hate it - I Love it
Review: We've had this book for a few years, but I hadn't ever read it with my daughter until last night. It is a wonderful book. It starts out with a mother and her new baby and she rocks him and sings him a little song about how he will be her baby as long as she lives.

Through the succeeding pages, the baby grows into a toddler, a young boy, a teenager and a man. In every stage of his life, his mother sneaks into his room sometimes, crawls across the floor, picks him up, rocks him, and sings the song. This is the part that some people find creepy (my wife included). I think the problem is that some people just don't care to suspend disbelief and expect every book to be very literal. Yes, a little old lady breaking and entering to rock her grown son is a little odd to us as adults, but if you approach the book as a young child, it might seem perfectly normal. In any case, it serves as an effective symbol to show that the mother's love endures throughout their lives.

Of course, since the son is growing up, so is the mother, and you can imagine where this is leading. When the mother gets too old to sing the song anymore, I broke down in tears right there reading to my almost four year old daughter. We had a pretty good conversation as a result.

So, now you are forewarned. I think whether you like this book or not is going to be very dependent on what sort of person you are and what sort of person your kids are.

Summary: Sweet story
Review: I don't think this story is creepy. The story IS fictional. I don't see how it's different from ficitonal books about trains, cars, animals, etc. that talk and /or solve problems. It's about unconditional love between a mother and child. The first time I read it I cried.

Summary: its not for children or your mother
Review: If you want a book you can read to your child, don't buy this book. Don't share this with your mother either. I left it by accident in the room that my mother sleeps in when she visits, and she asked why I left her such a depressing, creepy book. It certainly depicts a strange relationship between mother and child. Who wants to discuss death at bedtime to a child? Yuck.

Summary: CREEPY BOOK!
Review: if you think it's not very very strange that a mother would climb in the window of her grown son's house, pull him out from bed with his wife and rock him like a baby, then you might enjoy this book.

Summary: worth sharing
Review: I was given this book as a gift the first time I was expecting a baby and thought it was one of the sweetest stories I'd ever read. I have since purchased this book for all my friends with young children and they love sharing it with their children.

Summary: Moving
Review: The first time I read this book, I cried. Now, whenever I have a really tough day with my very active and very naughty 19 month old, I read this book to keep my cool. I must admit he is not too impressed by this book though. He prefers "Guess How much..." and the "Runaway Bunny".

Summary: Book for mothers - not kids
Review: This book was given to me as a shower gift by someone who really loved it and said her kids loved it.

Never read this when you are pregnant and overly emotional anyway.

In my opinion, it is designed more to pull on the heart strings of mothers than to appeal to children in any way. Fifteen month later, I still can't read this book without tears but I can't ever see myself reading it to my child. I would not buy this book.

Summary: creepy...
Review: After seeing that negative reviews of this book get uniformly labeled as unhelpful, I'm taking the plunge anyway - if you're looking for an illustration of unconditional love, stick to "Guess How Much I Love You"...

I found the image of the mother who (w/c)ouldn't let go, sneaking into her adult son's bedroom (into his bed!), well, disturbing.

The cycle starts all over again in the last page, with the father crooning to his infant daughter that he'll "...love her forever and always...", instantly bringing to my mind the image of him also creeping unbidden into his adult daughter's bed, just as his mother did with him.

I understand the intent, but I found it pushed a button that I wasn't even aware I had.

Summary: Love You Forever
Review: Love You Forever is about a little boy who's mother sings him a song every night before he goes to bed. No matter how much trouble he gets into his mother will always love him. As he grows up older and older his mother still sings him that same song. Now that that the man grows up he has a daughter of his own to take care of. What do you think he does for his daughter before he rocks her to sleep? This is an appropriate book for ages 4 and up. I liked this book a lot because my mother used to sing me a song and still does and I can relate to this book a lot.

Summary: One of my daughters favourites
Review: My daughter along with her Playcentre friends choose this book all the time to be read to them. Their ages range from 2 - 5 years. I also remember my own Mum who passed away ten years ago and reading this book always brings a tear to my eyes. For as long as I live my Mother she will be.
