Rating: Summary: Beautiful! Review: My son received this book from his school teachers when his father passed away from Cancer. I started crying while reading this book to my son. It is so beautiful, peaceful, makes you feel better and helped us with grieving. Everyone I have shown this book to has been touched by it.
Rating: Summary: Awesome, Comforting Review: I work in a critical care unit as a nurse. I have given this book to grieving families (young and old). It has helped them deal with their overwhelming loss. The pain of death is so deep. This book helps them feel more in control of their feelings and and gives them GREAT comfort. Kudos to Warren Hanson on having such tremendous insight!!
Rating: Summary: An Amazing Experience Review: This book is an amazing experience. The thoughts and beliefs expressed so eloquently in the words and illustrations of this book bring a peacefullness to the spirit and a tear of wonderfullness to the eye. I have purchased several copies and give them to my dearest friends.
Rating: Summary: DISAPPOINTING Review: The Next Place was recommended to me for use with families who have lost a loved one. As a Christian pastor, I would never give or recommend this book to a grieving family. Why? Because it presents an afterlife without God, without heaven or hell, without bodies. It's Gnosticism 101. New Agey. No comfort here for the faithful of God.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful for all ages. Review: With the unexpected death of my father, a friend gave us this book to read and return. I read it to my 5 year old daughter and found myself most touched by both the words and illustrations. It was so perfect that I bought a copy for us and then shared it with my 75 year old mother. Three months later, my best friend's sister unexpectedly died leaving a 4 year old daughter and husband. I passed my copy on to them. I bought a new copy. This book shifts the focus from the end of life to the passing of life. It is a clear and beautifully told story that lifts the spirits of readers of all ages.
Rating: Summary: Awesome!!! Review: I bought this book for my sister when her dog died and my five year old son loved it so much that I had to order one for him as well. He seems to be very comfortable with the issues of death after reading (and re-reading!) this book. It gives one such a sense of peace, knowing that their loved one is in such a good place. I am also buying this for the parents of two of our high school students who were murdered last year hoping to give them some sense of comfort. I would recommend this book to absolutely anyone who needs comforting over the death of a loved one.
Rating: Summary: Very Appropriate Review: I love this book. I buy it to give to family and friends who have lost a loved one. When there are children involved especially. I am a Sunday School teacher and this book says it all. God truly inspired this writer to explain what heaven is all about. Thank you, Mr. Hanson! Sincerely, Gay Bentlage New Douglas, IL
Rating: Summary: Great Comfort Review: In simple words and outstanding pictures this book offers great comfort to anyone of any age who is dying or whose loved one is dying. It serves to thin the veil to the other side and let some of the peace and beauty shine through.
Rating: Summary: Mom's Parting Words.... Review: This book served as mom's parting words at her memorial service on 1/23/01. As I began her eulogy, I told the large crowd she had drawn that I had been bothered ever since mom had been given the "sentence" of stage four lung cancer. I was bothered because I couldn't imagine how mom felt receiving such horrific news, but also how mom felt about dying, and transitioning to her "next place". I then told the audience that I now know exactly how mom feels. I held up the book "The Next Place" and said, "this is a story from mom to all of us, because this is how mom feels". I began to read the story to the audience, inflecting my voice with the enthusiasm of the words, and showing the pictures as I read -- in the same manner that I read to my 3rd grade religious school students. When the story was over, there wasn't a dry eye in the room, but the tears were clearly "happy tears". Thanks to Warren Hanson for letting mom speak to us one last time!
Rating: Summary: helpful Review: many may find this stupid for me to say this but i will say it anyways... my dog just died. we had to put her to sleep. My friend Megan told me about this book and i read it off of the internet somewhere. i was so moved by how he can speak about death and w/ such beatiful words. it's nice to know that when i feel sad and miss my dear gege, i can read that book and feel better again. ...
