Summary: not bad at all
Review: Since this book is by Madonna and since the idea of her writing a child's book seems so odd this book will somewhat controversial. I'll put that to the side for a minute. The story is actually well done. It tells kids in a clever way about being fair, the wrongness of envy and the truth that things aren't always what they appear to be. The art work is decent and it's rather nicely written.
Now back to Madonna. If you find her revolting or if you think this is nothing more than a publicity stunt then obviously this book isn't for you. If you're neutral you may want to wait until it shows up in your public library. Most little kids don't or shouldn't even know who Madonna is so this is probably a best bet for her fans.

Summary: Cute story!
Review: Madonna is such a cool down to earth person, I bought the book for my 2 year old neice for her birthday. The illustrations are so neat and its such a cool story! I plan to buy them all!

Summary: Face it, Madonna gets bashed no matter what she does.
Review: Another reviewer pointed it out, but I'll say it again: All proceeds from the book are going to charity. She is not "cashing in" on motherhood. That said: This book is very charming with lovely illustrations. Everything is G rated for children with absolutley no hint at Madonna's onstage life. I liked how the book showed that even pretty, perfect girls can have problems, and a "perfect" facade is rarely the accurate one.

Summary: Madonna an author?
Review: I have to admitt, I was gearing myself up tp think this book would be cheesey, but suprisingly it is not. I have read a few other reviews and there is one on particular that makes this book sound awful. Truth is it is an up to date story told in the perspective that children have now a days, not in the perspective of the fairy tale world most adults think children live in. It is written in language children can identify with today and the illustrations are wonderful ( yes the artist WAS given credit). I can honestly say this is a good book to read to children instead of the old "everything is wonderful and everyone likes everyone" books of the past.

Summary: #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
Review: Madonna has done it again. This time she has gone and written a kid's book. Such a talent! And of course, people are discussing it. You go, Madonna!

And of course, don't forget Madonna's latest CD "AMERICAN LIFE" featuring the title track and "Hollywood".

Summary: something that i want to give to my niece for her life
Review: i do not think madonna is greatest child book writer. but i also do not think that doesn't give anyone of us the right to say she should stick to sing or perform. she may not be greatest child book writer but, there are whole stack of children's book that should be criticized before madonna.

for me, i thought this new book by madonna since the infamous SEX was very special and fresh experience to start with. granted the book is intended for 6 to 10 years old child and i'm in 20s, the story is quite simple and easy to follow but, it was not the modern day cinderella story but, the simplicity of story that madonna put with such a beautiful and amazing illustration work. when i was opening the first page of the book, the basic but, very colorful ink line drawings of the characters immediately caught my eyes and couldn't take my eyes off of it one second until i finish the book. coming from the greatest music video pioneer, it wasn't surprising the style of illustration she chose. the drawing technique was very simple one but, illustration was done very beautifully and has various complex aesthetic values that i thought i can't help but love this book. it was very well done.

i wish i had this book when i was 5...that sure would have made me feel like 'my most favorite childhook book that i still love now'...unfortunately, i cant :) so i bought two copies one for me and one for my niece. i hope she'll remember one day to her boy friend...'my most favorite childhook book...English Roses...from my uncle' :)

Summary: Madonna writes a classic wonderful kidsbook
Review: I had my doubts when this was coming out... no need to tell why I suppose ;-) Madonna at the top for so many years and being controversial, which I liked a lot, let there be no doubt about that either, but also being a charming and intelligent woman, I was determinded to give this lady a chance at this, I bought the book for my niece and another one for my nephew, I think that if anyone should have a go at it, they are the best reviewers for a book like this (they're both 7 years) they were very amused by the story and understood what the maincharacter (Binah) was going through, it was really the sweetest thing, they said they would never do that to another person! anyway, they also loved the bright and colorful pictures, then it was my turn of course! I read it and knowing it was a kidsbook (people tend to forget that I noticed) I had a great time reading it as an adult too I don't want to sound corny (but I know I will;-) but it has a positive and good message in it, what's wrong with that? it is also written to suit the reading and with the words a kid understands, no need to go on, I love this book and will definately buy the complete series for the kids in the family and myself too! great X-mas presents. once again: Judge the book NOT the author !!!

Review: truly awful, patronising and humourless disaster of a book.

Summary: the negitive comments are wrong...
Review: okay Madonna's childrens book is actually quite good... it's not very innovative but it's a tale of friendship that children should learn. The illistrations are fantastic and it is written quite well.

I've had two friends who hate Madonna read this book and they actually said they got shivers at the end. If that's not any indication that the book is good (these are very critical readers too mind you) than I don't know what is... I'd definatly let my children read this book and I highly recommend it to anyone really. It offers something to think about.
