Summary: Forget about the writer, read the book
Review: I am not a Madonna fan, never was and never will be. But that doesn't cloud my judgement : this is a great book for my 6yo daughter. It is funny, well-written and teaches a great lesson. She absolutely enjoyed it. So, while I won't buy her CD's I will be getting the next book. And you should give this little tale a chance, because your children will love it.

Summary: beautiful
Review: I was pleasantly surprised by Madonna's second foray into literature. It wasn't only a decade ago or so that she wrote SEX. But this is a book altogether different.

It's a book written without any formalities, written as if it were spoken aloud, and as such engages the reader immediately.

Buy the book and enjoy it for these reasons (in no order of importance):

1. Beautiful, eye-catching fashion-inspired illustrations
2. The story which itself is creatively and simply told in an easy-to-read style
3. The sly narration which smacks of good humor and Madonna's trademark tonge-in-cheek wit

Don't hate the book because of Madonna's history of controversial career moves.

Judge the book simply for what it is: a children's book. And based on that simple judgment, it is more than passable. With its lovely packaging, fluid writing, and cheeky humor, it is a book worthwhile the buy for both to read and to keep.

Forget about SEX. This is one reader eagerly awaiting Madonna's next children's book.

As an aside, I wonder how much more wonderful it would be to actually have Madonna do a reading on "The English Roses" on CD since her narrative voice in the story is very strong.

Summary: Forget about Madonna, just read the book
Review: I must admit that I am not a Madonna fan. Although she is obvious a very intelligent woman, I think she often gives a wrong message to our children. But that doesn't mean that this book is not worth buying or reading. I actually like it a lot and so does my 6 yo daughter. The story is funny, well-written and gives a great message. So, I would advise not to judge this book by its writer, but by children's reaction to it. I will certainly buy the next book.

Summary: The Illustrations are brilliant
Review: I feel that Madonna's heart is in the right place. The story has a good intention behind it and the illustrations are beautiful -- they rock. I'd market this for teenagers, rather than really young kids. My 4 year old wouldn't "get it" as there is no color or caste system built in when a child is that young. It's the parents that model unloving behavior that the child, at first, mimics, and then incorporates as their own. It's when we're older, especially the teenage years, when superficial judgements abound.

Summary: A Great childrens book with a moral message!
Review: This book is entertaining even for adults and has a moral message! I never thought Madonna would write a book like this!

Summary: Madonna. A Children's Author...Indeed!
Review: Madonna's "The English Roses" is gorgeously written and illustrated. It is a simple morality tale that is engaging, witty and should speak loudly and clearly to all of us about our unfounded prejudices and personal insecurities. Madonna's knack for being "of the moment" serves her well in her latest turn as children's author. I think especially today we can all use a reminder that people are not always as they first appear and that judging a book by it's cover (or it's author in this case) is not usually wise.

Madonna is widely regarded as an excellent, hands-on mother to both of her children. It is apparent that the same love and care that she devotes to her son and daughter were generously lavished on this, her latest endeavor. And the fact that all of the profits from all five of the books in this series will be donated to charity speaks volumes not only about the integrity of "The English Roses" but about it's author as well. Each and every page of this book (including the nifty sleeve the book arrives in) has the touch of one of the most talented artists of our generation as well as (and probably more importantly) a mother's love. Three well-deserved cheers for Madonna--a childrens author indeed!!!

Summary: Dont judge the book until you read it!!!!!!!!
Review: People that have rated this book low have not read the book. Madonna is not making money off this book as all of the proceeds for this book are going to the sprituality for children foundation. She was on Oprah this week and explained her thoughts on the book and what has caused her to take on this new venture.

While she is not an innocent person, she is a very intelligent person and just for being creative and is not afraid to push the limits on that creativity. If the people that made these comments had the opportunity to make the money that Madonna has by doing what she has done had the opportunity I'm sure that they would have done it also.

I think this was a very good book with some children's issues that do happen in life.

Please take a chance on the book!

Summary: A beautifully told lesson, a gem of a book.
Review: The stories that stand out most from my childhood all included some positive message or lesson as the moral of the story. Madonna has given modern parents a beautiful book with stunning illustrations to read to their children. Madonna's life experience, be a fan of it or not, is one that few people in the history of mankind can rival, so if a lesson that she wants to impart is how unnecessary & unkind jealousy can be, then I think it wouldn't hurt to teach that to our kids. It is a lesson that is obvious, yet even the wisest of adults can tend to loose sight of. She's written it in a fun & whimsical way that I think any child can & will relate to. Treasure what you have and know that what looks enviable from the outside is not always something you'd want if you knew what was beneath the surface. Bravo Madonna! I can't wait for the next four!!

Summary: Read this!
Review: Madonna has touched upon an important experience in the lives of young girls around the world, jealousy. It is important to show that not everyone is who they seem to be on the outside. Madonna wrote a lovely story about the inner working of "clicks" and their affect on their peers. I found the story touching and real. The English Roses can be related to by people from every generation and all around the world. I believe there is an important lesson for us all - don't judge a book by its cover.

Summary: Icon Teaches Life Lessons
Review: The top selling female artist in history. A living legend. An Icon. It's hard to disassociate Madonna, the superstar, from Madonna, the author. In this case, it'd be worth your while, as The English Roses is truly a great childrens book. Teaching children of all ages lessons that we all could use, is only one positive point of this book. The illustrations are simply stunning & EVERY SINGLE PENNY of the proceeds goes to charity.

Don't listen to some of the reviews that forget to rate the book and rate Madonna. It truly is hard to have everyone love you when you've been this generations Elvis for 20 years.
