Rating: Summary: Maniac Magee Review: Maniac Magee is a fantastic book but it's hard to understand. It's about a boy Jeffery Magee also known as Maniac Magee. Maniac lost his parents when he was three years old. Both of his loving parents died on a trolley accident over the Schucual River. Maniac is now 13 years old and he has no home. When Maniac was going to school one morning he bumped into a girl named Amanda Beale, who was the total opposite color of Maniac. He asked Amanda why she had a suit case filled with books , Amanda replied saying "My brother and Sister always destroy my books". Maniac asked for one but she said no. Since he kept on asking her for a book Amanda gave Maniac a book and took him back to her house so Maniac could meet Amandas parents. When Maniac has gotten to Amanda Beale's house her mom, Mrs.Beale asked Maniac where he had lived. Maniac just sat there saying no word. When Mr. Beale was in the car taking Maniac home Maniac had told Mr.Beale that he had no home. So Mr.Beale had to turn back -Devon
Rating: Summary: Wow what a book!!! Review: Maniac Magee is a phenominal book. It's about a boy who is a run away who ends up in the town of Two Mills. It's not really one town but two. One is the east end and one is the west end. The east end is home to the blacks and the west end is home to the whites and they hate each other. But Maniac doesn't understand why they should hate each other so much which is why he makes appearences on both sides. But he wasn't always a run away. He had a mom and a dad like normal but they died in a trolley crash so Maniac had to move in with his aunt and uncle. Unfortunately his aunt and uncle always fought so he ran away and sure enough there he was the boy who intercepted Brian Donahues pass. The boy who untied Kobble's knot. The boy who went into finsterwalds backyard. The boy legend. But all he wants is a nice caring family. But he is very unfortunte in that category until...you have to read the book to find out. The author did an excellent job and told a fantastic story. How important a family can be. The author used great wording and had a fantastic storyline but the best thing is how he fit it all together in the end. I read this book twice and it was as exciting and all around excellent the first time I read it as the second. I think this book is fabulous and reccomend it to kids 9 years of age to 14.
Rating: Summary: Maniac Magee Review: Maniac Magee is a breath-taking book. The author jerry Spinelli writes a fascinating description of how a boytries to survive on his own in a town that is seperated by color. Maniac Magee to some people in Two Mills is a legend and to others is a pest. Maniac Magee will find that racism will make his stay in Two Mills a bumpy one. In Maniac Magee Jerry Spinelli is trying ti send the message that people shouldn't be seperated by their color. Jerry Spinelli also does a fantastic job writing both serious and humorous passages in the book. I recommend Maniac Magee to sixth graders because it's both funny and serious and gives a great example of how being different can seperate people. Will Maniac Magee survive in this black and white society?
Rating: Summary: Wow What A Book! Review: Who would think an eleven year old would be able to run from Holisaysburg to Two Mills, well the people of Two Mills did. Two Mills wasn't really a town, with the haterd and segregation, people made the East End and the West End. The East End had the "black people", the West End had the "white poeple". Well things did change ...I read this book, and as a 12 year old reader, this was the best class book I ever read. Maniac Magee had many twists and turns and it taught me don't take your family for granted and also get to know the people before you believe your imagination. The author had a great writers craft and amazing wording. I recommend this book to any reader who wants a book that teaches them a lesson in life.
Rating: Summary: The awesome Maniac Magee Review Review: Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli is a great book. It has an outstanding plot and spectacular moral. This book is about a teen named Jeffery Lionel Magee. He had rough life so far, because at age three his parents died in a P&W accident. The P&W went over the schuykill bridge and drop down into the river, after that, he lived with his aunt and uncle until they got mad at each other which made Jeffery run away. Before he ran away he spun out of control on them and that's how he got his name "Maniac" Magee.A few days later he meets alot of people. First person he ran into was Amanda Beal. She is sort of nice to Maniac but then one day he went to Amanda's house. After her dad drove him home he asked where he lived then he said he didn't have a home so now he lived with the Beals. It was nice then an old man tells him to leave because he was white and they were black. He ran for days then got a home at the zoo. One day an old man named Grayson saw him and started to live with him then Grayson dies a few days later. He meets other people mad about predujuce like Mars Bars that is black and the McNab's that hates black. Will something serious happen but the real question is were is Jeffery "Maniac Lionel Magee going to run to next.
Rating: Summary: Maniac Magee Review: Maniac Magee is about an orphan on the streets that never feels that he belongs anywhere or that anyone wants him to live with them.I think the author wrote this because you shouldnt be prejudice.I think it is an exciting book that teaches you not to be prejudice and it has a lot of racism in it.I would recommend this book for kids that are nine and kids in between thirteen years of age.
Rating: Summary: Maiac Magee is one of my new Favorites Review: Maniac Magee is about a boy that travels a lot. Manic is a boy that lives at different places. So this means with different people, or should I say things. Some people think that the theme is a kid that can run fast. Well, I think it's about a kid that can run fast and he travels from place to place finding a home and love. The author, Jerry Spinelli writes with excitement. He writes just like a kid but much better. With all of these qualities, he makes a great autor. In my opion, I really like reading all of his books. Maniac Magee is a book that keeps you interested. This book is very well writen. I recommend this book to 5th and 6th graders.
Rating: Summary: Maniac Magee Review Review: Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli Is a phenomenal book. The main character is the heroic and fearless Jeffery Magee, an orphan who ran away from his miserable aunt and uncle and ended up in the town of Two Mills. From his frog ball homerun to his one handed interception on a pass to high school football star "Hands Down," Maniac arrived with a bang and it only gets better. But when maniac is hit with death, racism, and the feeling he just doesn't belong Maniac's true heroism is tested. It is then, Maniac tries something no kid or adult ever tried to do, unite two mills. Spinelli did a great job showing the damaging effcts of racial profiling and his portrayal of Maniac a responsable and fearless orphan who would do any thing for a home (except for compromising someone's feelings), Kept me begging for more. Spinelli's unpredictable style and comidic twist used to lighten the mood, are a big contribution to this piece of quality literature. I would strongly recommend tis book to all from ages to mid-teen and give this Newbery winner a well earned five stars.
Rating: Summary: Maniac Magee Review: Jeffery Magee is an eleven year old boy, who has no real family. His parents died in a trolley crash when he was only three! He was then sent to live with his Aunt Dot and Uncle Dan, who were strict Catholic's. Although they wanted to get a divorce, they never did because it was against their religion. Finally, after eight years, Maniac was sick and tired of them fighting, and ran away. Maniac ran to Two Mills, a small city, split into two towns, the East End and the West End. The East End was the blacks and the the West End was the whites. In Two Mills Maniac has some awkward adventures! I thought Jerry Spinelli really made readers not want to put the book down. This book teaches people that there is no difference between blacks and whites, except the actual color. This book teaches me to be brave and to stand up for what is right. Jerry Spinelli connects clues throughout the the book, which really makes people want to read his books. If you are ten to thirteen years old and are looking for a fun, easy reading book, Maniac Magee is definitely perfect for you!
Rating: Summary: The book of the Century Review: Maniac Magee is a phenomenol book about an orphaned boys journey through two ends of a town , one end black, one end white, who can't look past racial differences that have been going on for years. There are many lessons learned in this book but one that stands out in my mind is the classic saying "don't judge a book by it's cover". No matter what color someone is,whether they're black, white, blue, purple or green, you have no right to say your better than him or anybody else.Jerry Spinelli has a way of twisting words that makes you think. He says things without really "saying it".My opinion of this book this book is as high as Mt. Everest.Out of 10 this book is a 45. I recomend this book to all ages because teachs a lesson that is so important in today's world.
