Rating: Summary: This book will change your life! Review: Science and Health isn't a quick read, by any means, but it is worth every ounce of effort to dig through each paragraph and chapter. My life has changed tremendously since I started reading and studying this textbook on healing, and I'm sure yours will too. The healing that takes place in thought as we read through each paragraph is FOR REAL!! The last 100 pages of this 700 page book, are stories and testimonies of healing, from those that read the book. Many of these individuals were completely written-off by the medical profession. There are healings from accidents, tumors, depression, stomach problems, blindness, you name it. No herbs, no massage, no witchcraft, all they did was read the book. Their understanding changed, and so did the physical manifestations. This book also gives us some wonderful wisdom about relationships and marriage, in the chapter titled, "Marriage". I especially love the first chapter of the book, "Prayer". It is a step by step instruction in how to pray more effectively, and can be helpful to anyone in search of a greater daily connection to God. As you can tell, I highly recommend this book, and also its companion, the Bible.
Rating: Summary: Quite a challenge Review: The reviewer on 8/10 must have read a different copy of this book! It certainly advocates healing by prayer but I didn't see anywhere that it suggests going to a doctor is wrong for those who prefer to. It seemed pretty clear to me that it suggests strongly why prayer is better but leaves the choice to you. A more serious point is that this is a quite challenging book in its use of language. It needs a lot more than a quick read to grasp its particular meaning. I really can't think that people who get mad at it can have understood it. It's very loving in spirit. I found it highly worthwhile, especially considering it carefully paragraph by paragraph.
Rating: Summary: A new face for old evil Review: Before reading this book (I'm not saying you shouldn't read it), take the time to learn a little about the author and her religion, "Christian Science". You should be aware that this religion advocates the murder of the sick (by withholding medical treatment). More than a few children have died as a result of "god-fearing" parents withholding medical treatment. I guess you might say they died from an "overdose of prayer". This is just quackery wearing the mask of religion.
Rating: Summary: A Book For The Honest Seeker Of Truth Review: Science and Health is a book that supplements and compliments the Bible. It provides an enlightening paradigm shift by placing man in what Christian Scientists believe to be his proper context - as the perfect spiritual creation of the the most Perfect and Spiritual Being (God). For those seeking to follow the teachings of Christ, for honest seekers of Truth, this inspired text is a candle that humbly, logically, and cearly illumens the way. Regardless of the edition you obtain, the Truth of man and his harmonious relation to his heavenly Father/Mother is beautifully and rationally explained in this brilliant work by the discoverer and founder of Christian Science.
Rating: Summary: a little book open in the hand of an angel Review: I am blessed to know this book. I read from it almost daily. In almost every paragraph there is a statement of truth to help lift my thought to more happiness and health. This edition of Science and Health contains a picture of the author, Mary Baker Eddy in the front. It is a blessing to me to see her picture and to know that God chose, guided and inspired her to write this book.
Rating: Summary: Neither Christian nor Science Review: This last edition of S&H is just as illogical and confused as Eddy's original edition published in 1875. The idea's haven't changed but after Rev. Wiggins rewrote S&H for Eddy, sales increased and a certain amount of respect was acheived. The main concept of "Christian Science" was obtained from Quimby while she was a student of his studying the Science of Man. The church has suppressed many of the books in the past that tell the truth of the history and growth of Christian Science. The textbook denies every main orthodox christian doctrine yet uses christian terms that can leave a reader confused. S&H redefines christian terms to fit their philosophy. For a good read, read The Bible without S&H and see what God really has to say to mankind.
Rating: Summary: A book that comforts in times of need. Review: This book has offered me comfort when I have been ill, in need financially, had relationship problems or felt stressed about everyday life. It teaches people about their true, spiritual nature and relation to God. I like the fact that I can turn to it 24 hours a day when I feel I need help. The theories are logical and not preachy. Science and Health is definitely worth reading from cover to cover!
Rating: Summary: life changing book Review: this book healed me physically (again and again) and helped me become more spiritually minded. don't read it unless you want to do both!
Rating: Summary: This "little book" explains the practicality of Christianity Review: Not "just another book," this explanation of God, Christ, and man opens thought up to the practical nature and usefulness of Christianity. A necessity for any student of religion, science, or life. Learn the principles of Christian healing in a simple, logical, and rational way.
Rating: Summary: This book changed how I thought about life... Review: I read Science & Health cover to cover about 5 years ago. It gave me a concept of God as love, as light, as truth. It opened up The Bible for me in new ways and made Jesus' teachings practical in my daily life. At the time I read the book, I was in a deep depression and suicidal.....the concepts in the book brought me back to center. I now live a happy, joyfilled life -- and the thoughts expressed in Science and Health are the reason for that. For serious thinkers who care about issues of spirituality........this is a must read.
