Rating: Summary: The textbook of "how to" heal through prayer Review: I love this book. Rather than say what I thought of the words in this book, I'd like to say what those words did to change my life.Through reading this book, Science & Health by Mary Baker Eddy, I gained an understanding of the richness and depth of the Holy Bible. As I worked my way through Science and Health, I found myself using less medicine, enjoying better health and above all *ABOVE ALL*, I found a sense of peace I'd never known. The peace that passeth all understanding. What a sweet and blessed relief that was for me and my family. Since childhood, I'd suffered from frequent bouts of sinus troubles and sore throats. About two years after I began reading Mrs. Eddy's book, those troubles simply disappeared and never recurred. Ever since I was young, a felt an intense, even insatiable longing to know "the meaning of life". I read countless books on countless religions and belief systems, but when I studied Science & Health, I remembered thinking, "This woman has got something here..." That longing to know more about life was satisfied by reading her book and digging into the Bible with new understanding. Thomas Moore said "Earth has no sorrow, that heaven cannot heal." Science and Health proves Moore's statement and shows how heaven [God] *does* heal. Rose Thornton

Rating: Summary: The most inspiring book of the Century. Review: Science and Health has been part of my life since I have been a child. It is the most revolutionary book on paper. It makes you travel to the correct channels of thought that heal you in matters of love, work and the physical. If you are an assidous reader of New Age books, or New Thought, this is much more deep and inspiring; especially full of the most outstanding Truth that highlightens the true man as a Spiritual Being. Mary Baker Eddy, who was ahead of her time, wrote this book more than a century ago, and not until today other authors like Deepak Chopra or Marianne Williamson take the veil out of "some" of these truths. However, Mary Baker Eddy unveils them all. If you like to read authors who have been inspired in the original, well, for goodness sake...read the orignal!
Rating: Summary: Science& Health is a great read for all ! Review: I am so very gratetful for the teachings of Mary Baker Eddy... and what she has left behind for us...nearly a century ago. I wish more people (anyone, not just Christian Scientists) would spend some time reading and thinking about the wisdom and truth in this wonderful book. Every day we are tested more and more... this is a great aid in getting through the harder times in life. In fact, this book proves that there is a lot more to life then most of us really imagine.

Rating: Summary: Some comments and questions to consider. Review: With a little background material to compare from the Holy Bible, Paul writes in Titus 2:13 in the King James Version of the Bible "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;" Elsewhere in the Bible we find Luke 23:46 "And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost." Revelation 5:6 "Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?" Romans 8:34 "It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. And Romans 9:8 "They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed." The eternal loving God has never died. II Corinthians 4:14-18 "Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you. For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal." After seeing these previous Bible passages, I like Mrs. Eddy 's response to the "Question.- What is the scientific statement of being? Answer.- There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all. Spirit is immortal Truth; matter is mortal error. Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal. Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore, man in not material; he is spiritual." St.John 1:11-13 "He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures on Page 332, "Father-Mother is the name for Deity, which indicates His tender relationship to His spiritual creation." I also like what Mrs. Eddy says, "Jesus was born of Mary. Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness. The Christ is incorporeal, spiritual, - yea, the divine image and likeness, dispelling the illusions of the senses; the Way, the Truth, and the Life, healing the sick and casting out evils, destroying sin, disease, and death. As Paul says: "There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus."" Her further explanation is interesting. Mrs. Eddy says on page 42, "The resurrection of the great demonstrator of God's power was the proof of his final triumph over body and matter, and gave full evidence of divine Science, - evidence so important to mortals. The belief that man has existence or mind separate from God is a dying error. This error Jesus met with divine Science and proved its nothingness. Because of the wondrous glory which God bestowed on His anointed, temptation, sin, sickness, and death had no terror for Jesus. Let men think they had killed the body! Afterwards he would show it to them unchanged. This demonstrates that in Christian Science the true man is governed by God - by good, not evil - and is therefore not a mortal but an immortal." Her point is well taken when she says, "Our Master fully and finally demonstrated divine Science in his victory over death and the grave. Jesus' deed was for the enlightenment of men and for the salvation of the whole world from sin, sickness and death. Paul writes: "For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the [seeming] death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life."" Mrs. Eddy writes,"Glory be to God, and peace to the struggling hearts! Christ hath rolled away the stone from the door of human hope and faith, and through the revelation and demonstration of life in God, hath elevated them to possible at-one-ment with the spiritual idea of man and his divine Principle, Love." Overall, a good and interesting book!
Rating: Summary: How to be healthy, how to love Review: I have always considered myself to be a pretty strong person (except in times of weakness of course), but since reading this book I have known confidence like never, ever before. The author explains a higher idea of man and woman through her penetrating, ultimately logical insight into Biblical teachings, especially the works of that lovely, awesome one called Jesus. All who aren't afraid to subvert the dominant paradigm and take up their right to health, happiness, love, and freedom of thought, take heed: She wrote this book especially for you.
Rating: Summary: Science and Health misses the point of Christianity! Review: Mary Baker Eddy's Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures is seriously flawed. Be careful! This book might steal your soul! Eddy mixes the truth of Jesus with her own heretical teaching. There are those who receive healing and attribute such healing to Christian Science, yet it is not the God of the Bible who is healing them! Eddy's biggest flaw is the denial of Jesus Christ's claim to deity in "I am the way" (John 14:6). Instead Eddy insists in Science and Health that Jesus is only the "way-shower"--BIG DIFFERENCE! You cannot deny who Jesus Christ is without serious consequence... "Jesus Christ: He is Lord of all" (Acts 10:36). In Science and Health, Eddy states "Jesus is not God," yet Paul writes in Titus 2:13 that Jesus is God and Saviour, "the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ." Both the Old Testament and the New Testament agree, Jesus Christ is God. Compare Isaiah 45:23, "unto Me [God] every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear" and Philippians 2:10,11 "...at the name of Jesus every knee should bow...every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord." Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess--JESUS! This is not the message of Science and Health, but it is the message of the Bible! Both cannot be right! One is wrong! Think about it! Then Eddy leads the reader to believe Christian Science is the Comforter promised by Jesus in John 14:16! Eddy's supposes her "discovery" of Christian Science replaces the Holy Ghost! Eddy makes herself equal to God. Eddy writes we are no different than Jesus. Blaspheme! In her scientific statement of being, Eddy writes "man is not material he is spiritual," yet scripture clearly states Jesus physically died on the cross to take away the sins of the world. John writes in 1 John 2:2, "He [Jesus] is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world." After His resurrection, in Luke 24:39 Jesus says of Himself, "Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have." MAN IS MATERIAL! MAN IS NOT SPIRITUAL UNTIL HE IS BORN AGAIN! As Jesus Himself said, "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" and "Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God" (John 3:3,5). Science and Health defines sin as "error," therefore making sin not "real." If sin is not real, then we don't need a savior, and if we don't need a savior, then you defeat Jesus' purpose for coming in the first place, as Paul wrote in 1 Timothy 1:15, "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners." Did Jesus die on a cross for something that is not real? If you believe Eddy, then you miss Jesus' mission: redeeming us from sin and saving us from eternity in hell--now that's what I call error! The choice is yours: believe Mary Baker Eddy or believe Jesus Christ! If you seek healing by reading this book, then I suggest you read God's true book of healing, The Holy Bible. Don't waste your time, your money, or your soul reading this book!
