Rating: Summary: Review on the book HTML 4 Review: I'm new to the web. Knew almost nothing of computers & purchased a web tv. Almost as soon as I got on the web I was hearing of HTML's & saw the fun You can have with them and how useful they can be. I purchased this book, and was doing HTML's real quick. I haven't had the chace to learn all of it yet but it's a nice and quick place to look up stuff You may need or just to enjoy, as I've done with My e-mail and web page. I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: THE Book on HTML 4 Review: I maintain a few web sites and always try to keep up on the latest HTML technology. When I first spotted and skimmed through this book, I knew I had to have it. This is an excellent and informative book about HTML 4!Elizabeth starts off with the basics in the first few chapters. Chapters on terminology and designing your page are at the book's beginning. I liked the chapter on text formatting and how the author points out which text formatting tags are being "phased out" by the W3C (the folk who set HTML standards). I'd sure like to ask the W3C why they insist on "phasing out" certain tags if neither browser fully supports Cascading Style Sheets, which the W3C would prefer every web designer use! :)) So now I know which tags are being phased out, but even so I'll keep using them. :) Even though I'm kind of a "veteran" at designing web sites, I still found new pointers in the first several chapters. I at first "dreaded" the later chapters (ie Frames, Forms and Cascading Style Sheets), because I knew little about them. However, as with everything else in this book, Elizabeth's descriptions of each of them made them sound quite easy and I wondered why I've been so afraid of them until now. Another thing I liked about this book were the code examples on every page included along with the text. I'm someone who looks at "code" first and asks questions later, something that occasionally gets me in trouble..hehe. However, the examples make clear the concepts Elizabeth is trying to get across. The appendices at the back of the book are also wonderful and are great to refer to. The entire book is easy to read and is a valuable reference tool for most web designers, be them a beginner or intermediate.
Rating: Summary: HTML 4.0 is a winner Review: If you are aiming to become proficient in web design in a short amount of time, go no further than this book. I picked up basic HTML and put a page on the internet in one week with this book. Before I had never touched HTML or anything like it. It behaves like a condensed reference book. You will have no problem finding what you need, as the titles are large and easy to spot, as well as shaded "tabs" on the side of the book. You won't have any problem finding the book either, thanks to its colourful exterior. Why read a log of a book when this nice compact manual does it all?
Rating: Summary: The book I recommended to my customers Review: In my four and a half years of working in the bookstore of a major computer retailing chain, this was, in its various editions, the book I consistently recommended to customers looking for that proverbial "good book on HTML," and everyone who I happened to see again agreed that it was a great purchase. Like the rest of the Peachpit Visual Quickstarts, this book covers HTML in its latest incarnation in a straightforward, understandable way, without wasting time on stupid "humor" like the Dummies books. The examples are well illustrated and explained, and the book includes useful extras like a chart of the "safe" internet colors. Like I used to say to my customers as I handed them this title in the midst of our huge HTML section, "This is the book."
Rating: Summary: Excellent tutorial... Review: For the confused buyer, this book is better than the "Sams Teach Yourself" and "Complete Idiot's Guide" Series'. Here, the writer takes you on a step-by-step journey to give you solid grasp of concepts and design techniques. Language is incredibly beginner-friendly and there's a lot of pictures/snapshots showing you how to actually type the HTML code on your PC (almost on every page). Rest assured, you will get what you pay for, and that is a strong background in HTML formatting and I must say,.... in a very short time! This book come highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: This book makes it easy! Review: I have absolutely no HTML experience, yet I am able to grasp the concepts quickly and easily thanks to short, concise paragraphs and helpful illustrations. This is a great "how to" book.
Rating: Summary: This Book Is It! Review: This book is the one to get! After spending many frustrated months looking for the perfect book to learn HTML, this book finally came through for me! It is PERFECT for the absolute beginner who knows nothing about HTML -- including stuff like what the difference is between the "HEAD" and the "BODY" in your HTML code, and how to reference a web page that's UP multiple levels in your web site. And this book is also perfect for intermediate users, teaching you how to make your GIFs and JPEGs perfectly in Photoshop, and then integrate them into your HTML code. And this book is even great for advanced users, who want to learn CSS (cascading style sheets). But the most amazing thing about this book is how CONVERSATIONAL the text is! You will swear on your life that you are having an interpersonal conversation with the author, Elizabeth Castro. I can't believe that Elizabeth can take a dry subject like HTML and actually make it FUN and ENTICING to learn. I'm telling you, after looking through all the other HTML books on the market, THIS ONE IS THE ONE TO GET!
Rating: Summary: A simple, easy-to-follow book! Review: Out of all the HTML books I've seen, this is one I truly recommend! On the cover, it says "This Visual Quickstart Guide uses pictures rather than lengthy explanations...", and that's exactly what it does. It tells you what to do step-by-step, and it backs up those instructions with pictures to give you the whole idea. I already know a little bit about HTML, and this book serves as a great review. I even learned a couple of little tidbits that I didn't know before. I only gave it four stars, because there's couple of things left out from the book. I wrote to the author, Elizabeth Castro, with the following suggestions: 1. On chapter 18, on the section titled "Changing a Link's Status Label", the ONMOUSEOVER attribute should be followed by the ONMOUSEOUT attribute. Using Figure 18.3, we should get: (Note: Those are two single quotation marks, followed by one double quotation marks before the greater-than sign.) Without the ONMOUSEOUT tag, the text entered for the ONMOUSEOVER attribute stays in the status area (i.e. "Click here for more information about Northampton's sites"), even after you remove the mouse pointer from the link. (2) Still on chapter 18, on the section titled "Changing an Image When a Vistor Pointes", the image doesn't have to be a link. We can use an image tag if we wanted to, which would give us this: . Other than those two suggestions, this is a truly great book! Other HTML books have lengthy explanations which discourages you from learning HTML, and they sell for three times as much!
Rating: Summary: Excellent initial guide for HTML Review: This is an excellent guide for a novice and a wonderful desktop reference for the intermediate user for when you must employ those obscure tags used every once-in-a-while. It is detailed enough but no too much to bog down the reading. It is well written apart from being so useable. It even covers Cascading Style sheets and some CGI scripting techniques that normally come in the more "technical" books. It has an appendix with all the tags that can be used in HTML and also all the possible variations that the tag can have. It is consise and yet very informative. In seconds you can use the reference to find something else to introduce into your page. All in all, Elizabeth Castro did a great job in describing all the tags and options and also makes you want to read more. It almost seems like reading a novel. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: ONE OF THE BEST HTML BOOKS EVER! Review: Elizabeth Castro has writen a truly amazing book! This book is great for begining to intermediate web designers and enthusiasts. There are many useful examples in the book, all with good description. I also found the reference section useful, with all HTML tags covered in the book and their attributes AND a description of what they're used for! If you ask me, this is a must for all web designers and enthusiasts!
