Rating: Summary: A joy to read Review: For those of us who need to get results quickly, but also need to understand what is going on, Liz Castro's book is worth its weight in gold. The writing style is beautifully concise, but fluid with a minimum of diversions and philosophy. Just good plain, easy-to-read, well laid out information. The consistent presentation of HTML text and its appearance in different browsers gives relevance to every aspect of HTML. This felt like a hands-on workbook rather than a traditional textbook, while it is still perfect as an HTML 4.0 reference.
Rating: Summary: A usefull guide to the introduction of HTML! Review: TML 4 for the World Wide Web, Fourth Edition : Visual QuickStart Guide is an excellent introductory text for anyone interested in learning how to create webpages using HTML.
Rating: Summary: Not bad. But there is a superior HTML book out there! Review: It is not that wonderful, there are plenty of other great books out there that cover much more advanced topics. There are no practical exercises to do, all you do is type in what the author already did. That is no way to learn HTML! All books on this subject fall short..........................After looking through this book for answers, I'm still stuck on what I need to do.
Rating: Summary: The perfect beginners book and great reference for experts! Review: This book is great for beginners with lots of examples that are easy to follow. This book also covers many topics not normally included in a beginners book. I did tons of research about which book to buy, and this one is definitely the one to get...
Rating: Summary: Excellent start for beginners, very reader friendly. Review: As a professional web developer, I rarely read the visual quick start guide series. I come across this book when I start to teach some novice web programmers. To my surprise, this book is so concise and is quite different from many HTML books. The author introduces the major features of HTML 4 and web development in a very reader friendly and fun tutorial. Readers will not find web development is not a dry and tedious task. Take a look at the table of contents link on the left hand side and you will see the topics being covered in it.I think it is an excellent start if you don't know that much about HTML 4 and found traditional books a little bit too boring to get start. It covers all the essentials and briefly introduce the future, XML. It is an inexpensive book too. However if you are looking for an indepth reference, you can take a look at "HTML: The Definite Guide". If you are serious about web programming after reading these two books, read Wrox Publication's ASP, ecommerce, databases and XML series.

It was helpful that the relevant code was highlighted as well as its effect on the web page.
