Summary: Excellent book to get you going.
Review: This is a perfect book for absolute beginners. I know because I was a beginner when I started using it. You will be able to make nice website by the time you complete the book. It is very easy to read. It instructs you step by step with wonderful illustrations. The book also has excellent quick reference pages. To make more complex webpages, you'll have to do additional reseach. You will be much better customed to basic web design.

Summary: HTML---The fun way to program computers
Review: I liked the book. I prefered the book about learning HTML visually (less wordy and more examples), but I liked the book. When I am not using the Learn HTML visually book, I am using this one.

Summary: a wonderful teacher and reference
Review: I have used this book at school and at home. I keep a copy of it by my computer at all times (although my dad has been known to steal it), and use it at least twice a week. When someone reccommended that I try using frames in my web pages, there was the easy explanation in the book. When I want a simple place to find interesting colors in hex, I use the back inside cover of this book. It is a wonderful place to look for any kind of HTML information.

Summary: Best book for the Beginner
Review: Having read a number of html books this one is best for the beginner or people somewhat familiar with web pages. This book covers all the basic parts of a basic to intermediate web pages/sites. Any book couldn't have done as well titling each chapter and is an easy reference. Each chapter concisely and clearly tells you everything you need to know and than shows an example of the code and the what the web page displays when published. This book helps a lot with multimedia. The book briefly gets into scripts and other extras which is why I gave it a 4. When you have mastered what you learn in this book you can use it as a reference and buy a book dealing with advanced options like scripts.

Summary: Good book to get you started......
Review: This is a very good book to get you started in understanding and using HTML. But this is just a starting point, with the advances of the internet, this like many others will become outdated.

Summary: Best Book Outthere
Review: I have been doing HTML for a couple years now and have a few HTML books but I always come back to this book when I need to reference anything. Every HTML programmer I know started out with this book, Elizabeth explains everything in plain terms. And when you need to know how to do something the Index always seems to guide you right to what you need to know, the other books I have never seem to be as clear. This book is a staple for anyone who wants to learn HTML, it makes it seem easy.

Summary: Amazing book!
Review: I loved the copy of this book so much, that I bought a second copy to keep in my office at work. It has helped me to master so many of the techniques that are used everyday in the land of web design and has given me a better understanding of everything. If you own only one HTML book, I highly reccommend this one. It is easy to understand and won't leave you completely lost like some otehr booksout there!

Summary: HTML 4 for the World Wide Web: Visual Quickstart Guide
Review: When I first learned HTML, I purchased several "beginner" books. They were all confusing and disjointed on how they taught the subject. Then I stumbled across this book. Awesome. I created my first web page from scratch within 30 minutes following the text. To date I use it for reference when I forget a syntax. Because of this book, I've been able to teach HTML classes to volunteer groups...and have even created self starting HTML based CDs for the class. This is a must if you're getting started in HTML. It also serves quite well as a desk reference if you're experienced.

Summary: Excellent at what it does...
Review: When a girl at work asked me what book she should get on HTML I had no hesitation in suggesting this fine book. It takes as its basis the assumption that the reader has basic computer skills, has used and understands the web, and can follow basic instructions. From there it builds chapter by chapter until the user has the skills to design a basic website from hand without needing to rely upon buggy WYSIWYG programs.
The only downside is that it is starting to show its age. It talks about, and shows examples in Netscape 4 and IE 4, we are of course up to version 6 of both. Although it is still a valid book, I would suggest any new designer follow it up with some books on CSS/DHTML - such as the Visual Quickstart Guide to both - and also start to investigate XHTML, the next generation. The way designers are building sites is shifting rapidily and hopefully a newer version of this book will take that in to account.
Still there is no better book to start with...

Summary: Great book for the beginning HTML writer!
Review: I recently sold this book (after using it for almost a year) and it has been my best source of information when writing HTML webpages. It is easy to follow, well thought out, and very thorough. For the past year, I have been writing both professional and personal webpages (...) just by the use of this book.

This book covers everything from your basic tags (HEAD, BODY, BR, etc) to how to create tables and form-to-email forms.

It is definately worth the money!
