Summary: All you need
Review: First, the reviewer below states that Linux is not a flavor of UNIX. Not true... although it was developed from the ground up, that doesn't mean that it's not a UNIX derivative. Not important for the exam, but Linux guys are so wound up on this issue :)

Second, the good news is the book delivers. The bad news is the book delivers. I say this because anyone with a good memory can read this book and pass the exam. It's only so much information and very logical. The authors do a great job... I just wish the exam was a little more difficult!

Summary: I recommend this book. It's good, but it has some errors.
Review: Overall, this book is very well organized and easy to understand. It provides many good examples for the topics discussed and should prep readers very well for the test.

However, it appears that this book was rushed to press as there are many spelling and gramatical errors throughout the book. Also, there are some concepts and terms that aren't properly defined or are just plain wrong. Alas, the only one that comes to mind just now is the statement that Linux is a flavor of Unix. Linux is in fact it's own OS that was developed to be as compatible as possible with the UNIX world. Because the kernel was developed from scratch and not modified from an existing kernel, Linux is, therefore, it's own OS.

Overall, the book is worth the money for the newbies that are learning new things and the seasoned veteran that wants a broad review of the basics.

Summary: Excellent Network+ Preparation Guide
Review: I just passed the Network+ exam with an 89 after studying this book. The book was right on target, and is the only book necessary to pass the exam. If you know the answers to the exams on the accomanying CD-ROM, and at the end of each chapter, you will pass the exam. I highly recommend this book.

I also found that I was able to pass the Microsoft Network Essentials practice exams after reading and studying this book.

Summary: This book has everything you need to pass the Network+ exam!
Review: While this book may even be overly thorough, it has everything you will ever need to know to successfully pass the exam. You will not find another book that has as much information in it concerning basic networking as this one. If you are the type of person who likes to prepare thoroughly for certification exams because you don't like surprise questions, then this is your book for the Network+ exam. You have no need to look any further. I just read it all the way through once and easily passed the exam.

Summary: This is a complete course in a book for the Network+ Exam.
Review: I co-authored this book and "participated in the development of the Network+ exam." The Network+ Study Guide is a full course in a book with in-depth information and examples. The Exam Notes book is a reveiw to be used after you read the Study Guide or before you take the test. These books cover everything you need to pass the exam.

Network+ is a vendor independant certification that covers Windows 9x, Windows NT, NetWare, and Unix.

Summary: Written by three of the Authors of the Network+ exam!
Review: Ben, Tim, and Myself wrote the Network+ exam and also wrote this book, which contains all the same information we put into the Network+ exam. Buy this book and you will have all the information you need to pass.

Summary: PASSED
Review: I bought this book about a month ago. I read the book about two times from cover to cover, highlighting the important parts. Also bought the Exam Cram book, as a review and passed the exam today with a 800/900 the first time. The author Groth really breaks the the subject, also the CD was great.
A word to the wise, pay close att. to the IP subnetting part. Also the IPv4 and IPv6.

thanks Sybex!

Summary: Network+ is easy
Review: Read this book and you will easily pass the Network+.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Excellent Network+ core book
Review: Network+ Study Guide assisted me in passing Network+ with a score of 833/900. This book is strong in NT/2000 content, but lacking in Netware, Appletalk and Unix content. That said, the majority of the Network+ exam is devoted to NT/2000; nonetheless the Network+ tests are randomly generated and you may luck out with a Netware-heavy exam. Some sections contained errors in the review questions which were duplicated on the CD-ROM. However, careful readers will note the errors and learn from them. I recommend this book as a primary Network+ resource, and supplementing it with secondary materials.

Summary: Great text, but it's probably overkill for passing Net+
Review: The text itself is excellent, but the Net+ exam is so pathetically easy that if you know anything about the internet and tcp/ip, you could probably pass the test without ever opening a book. In fact, I have never heard of a person who has failed. If you have any kind of networking experience, I'd take one of the free practice tests that can be found online. If you consistently get 80% or above, you can probably just go ahead and take the test. I used this book and studied for about 2 1/2 weeks, and I really didnt' learn anything new. I easily passed with a 873/900. However, if you have virtually no experience with networking, this is an excellent text to get.

The only thing I'd be aware of is that this book is very Windows-oriented, so it kind of skims over AppleTalk, Netware and even Unix. However, there is sufficient information on each of those topics to pass.

Again, the Net+ exam is ridiculously easy...so don't dump $40+ on a book if you don't have to.
