Rating: Summary: It¿s this easy to create cool web pages Review: In this volume, HTML is taught from scratch in an easy to understand way, to give anyone with a keen interest in learning the building blocks that create web pages, the ability to quickly master the techniques. Ample screen shots describing the use of each HTML tag and what the end result should look like when the page is viewed in a browser are printed throughout the book. It is attractively written with each procedure broken down into stages and grouped with other related codes, forming a structured sequence that won't overwhelm you with too much information at once, but will safely take you from the basic stage to an advanced level. A summary of all the HTML tags used in the book is located near the back as a quick reference guide. This training guide covers many areas such as text styles, creating forms, tables, frames, links and java script, in addition to a list of sites for hosting your completed page. Other enhancing features that will attract visitors to your site include the use of animated gifs, active X control, audio and video. The CD that accompanies the book contains many useful utilities for the PC and Mac like Paint Shop Pro for example, which will come in handy in making the final production aesthetically pleasing to everyone.
Rating: Summary: Cool creation Review: It is indeed a cool creation, and I'm not only talking of the websites created by people who read this book but also the people who created the book. I have read a few books before starting to make a simple website. I had some problems understanding some of the softwares used for creating web pages. But this book made it very clear to me that the real key for starting to create websites is to understand the HTML codes. This book did a good job with my brain cells. Cheers.
Rating: Summary: My HTML scripting headaches ended, and my creativity soared. Review: Just about anyone can create a website with freeware/shareware HTML editors that require very little to zero knowledge of HTML. That is how I got started as well. But, take it from me, your creativity is severely limited when you design a website solely based on its appearance without ever learning how to code HTML by hand. For a while I had a difficult time to comprehend basic HTML scripting after purchasing stuffy books that solely contained a list of tags and explained by definition what each tag's purpose was. One day a friend suggested the book 'Creating Cool HTML 4 Web Pages', and from that day onward my HTML scripting headaches ended, and my creativity soared which resulted in great web sites. I definitely wish to recommend this book to novice and intermediate web designers alike.
Rating: Summary: Awsome Book! Review: The "Creating Cool HTML 4 Web Pages" by Dave Taylor is in my opinion the best beginners guide to writing and HTML for a number of reasons. First, the book covers each and every subject in a very detailed manner so if you're a beginner, or a pro at writing an HTML, all the information is very helpful. The book also demonstrates how to apply graphics, links, etc., with step to step instuctions and picture in the booklet just to make sure that what you did turned out "right". The book also includes a CD which has on it a demo for many softwares that will help make your web site great, and information in the book to also show you how to use them. Basically this is the best tutorial and reference guide, for a low price.

Rating: Summary: Stupid Title, Great Content Review: The book has a "interesting" title, althought the content of the book is great. Much smaller than the QUE books, but has better flow and greater quality. A recommended reading for those inexperience and experience web developers. It also becomes a great reference book.
Rating: Summary: A great beginner tutorial Review: The book has an easy-going, conversational style that lends itself well to learning and is aimed at the beginner. I had originally tried Thomas Powell's "HTML: The Complete Reference", and found it a bit overwhelming; then picked up this book which was a perfect choice. Taylor covers all the basics with humor and has a writing style that keeps one interested and wanting to learn more. The chapters were well organized, with each subject naturally preparing you for the next. Very readable. Taylor does seem to use kind of an "if it works..." approach to coding--doesn't mind using lots of tricks and workarounds--which could be a disservice with XHTML and it's stricter syntax and structure looming on the horizon. Overall, a great introduction. I went back to Powell's book afterward and found "Cool HTML" had prepared me nicely to continue onward with the more in-depth coverage there.
Rating: Summary: This book will definitely get you started Review: The hardest part about teaching yourself anything is getting started. You may not know where to start. This is the answer. And you will be writing web pages with some pretty adavanced features in a short period of time.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book! Highly Recommended! Review: There are a lot of people who know lots of things, but just don't know how to teach. This is definitely not true when it comes to Dave Taylor. His well-written book on the Web's language should be able to explain HTML to anyone, especially novices. I created two websites just using his book, and they look pretty good too! The only complaint I have is because of the lax coverage of CGI. I still give the book 5 stars though, becauses this is a book on HTML, not CGI. This excellent book is recommended for anyone interested in learning HTML, and so BUY IT NOW!
