Rating: Summary: Great book for a beginner in DAO Review: Is a great beginners book it explains DAO and working with MS-Access using Visual Basic 6. It does not explan how to run a MS-Access query on visual basic at run-time. It is a great book for those for those working with a Three-Tier Cleint/Server Architecture.
Rating: Summary: Good one for beginners Review: I'm a beginner with an intermediate knowledge of ASP and VBScript. I wanted to learn more about both topics and more about VB and this was a great place to find it! McManus gave great examples that made things easy to understand. I consider myself a fairly advanced user of computers and an intermediate level programmer. This book was good for me -- explained things very well but never talked down to me.
Rating: Summary: Excelent book Review: Recomendation for everyone who wants to program databases in VB6. Previous experience in VB is a need, but previous experience in databases is not needed because there is a chapter about databases.
Rating: Summary: An excellent book all around Review: This book is concise and filled with examples, screenshots and thorough descriptions of the entire process of database access and manipulation using VB. I recommend it to anyone interested in such a subject. It covers various db engines and gives a brief overview of SQL queries as well as delving whole-heartedly into ADO, DAO, activeX, ASP and just about anything else you'd care to know about. And nothing is skimped on. McManus also covers remote database access and multiuser Jet databases
Rating: Summary: concise, to the point and step-by-step examples are verygood Review: This is one of the best books that i have purchased relating to Visual Basic (and i have lots of them) i've been programming in Basic before it was "Visual" - on and off for 15 years now. The author goes straight to the point, gives you examples that work, builds up chapter by chapter and explains the theme in a very easy to understand way. For once i dont get a lot of babling and fancy words, but a straight down to earth talk. Unlike some other authors that spend a lot of time in trivial matters, this book tells you how to do stuff - right now!. I like the way the author explains SQL, Internet Databases, ASP pages and the things that are important to get the darn thing to work. I am keeping this one in my reference library.
Rating: Summary: Great even for beginner Review: When I bought this book, I expected something less than good enough to buy for beginner like me. However, now I am stuck to it. I kept it as reference all the time. There are plenty of examples and tips that I just could not find from other books I have purchased. I simply would like to congratulate and thank Jeffrey for this book.
Rating: Summary: Manual Rehashed for Visual Basic 0101 Review: I am startled at the reviews. I have read both the editions of the book and they hardly offer anything beyond what is already well documented. The bible has always been the HitchHiker's guide with a ton of practical advice and 'Inside Microsoft' stuff.
Rating: Summary: I'm getting ready for 70-176 / 175, and it helped! Review: Very good book on a wide range of databases, from Access, SQL to ASP. I would recomend it as an additional aid in learning Databases. For My needs it was fine, maybe for an advanced designer it might not be as helpfull, but I'm not there yet..so I have to give it an 5 starAs preperation for the MCSD exams, it gave me a better understanding af database access than the mastering series wich I used from Microsoft. The book does not cover the EXAMS so you need a guideline and then you can search for it in this book. As an additional aid, it is very good.
Rating: Summary: Best book I ever Read! Review: I've read several books about programming in VB6, and they all "lacked" something or another. This is the most complete book, by far, that I have ever read. Everytime I go through it for answers I learn something new and find exactly what I'm looking for. I strongly recommend anyone, even beginners, which I WAS, to buy this book. I can't stress enough how much it has done for me.
Rating: Summary: The best database book I have ever read! Review: This book is certainly one of the best! Regardless of your current experiance with databases, this book will have you on your way in no time! I've bought many books in my time, and they usually find themself on the bookshelf within a week. Not this one! I use it both at work and at home. I highly recommed it for anyone serious about learing to access their database with Visual Basic. It is a MUST read!
