Summary: Perfect book for learning DB access with VB6!
Review: This easy-to-understand book not only teaches you how to access VB but also other equally important things like generating reports and using 3rd party tools to display information. It also gives the reader a glimpse of MTS and how VB programmers can take advantage of it. It has also helped me a lot in in my review for MS certification exams 70-175 and 70-176.

Summary: Great book that's fun to read
Review: I agree with all the positive comments here regarding this book. I don't see how anyone can say it's a rehash. Did VB5 have a data report designer - I must have missed it? Did the VB5 book discuss ADO 2.0?

This author writes in a style that is fun to read while providing very valuable information. I really like the dicussions of various third-party controls. If you do this kind of development for a living, I think this book is an investment sure to pay long term dividends.

Summary: Where's the beef?
Review: I'm amazed at some of the other reviewers. This is a rehash of VB5 - and there is little new here except changing the VB5 to a VB6. Disappointed.

Summary: This book bridges gaps, rivers, and some times GALAXIES.
Review: First or second year VBASIC book that ties down answers to questions not found ANYWHERE else. If you use it with Office 2000 (Access Jet) then be prepaired for a few bumps but overall it is a must have reference.

Summary: The ultimate requirement for Data bases with VB 6
Review: This is a fully recommended book. I've been reading other books on the topic but never got such a complete knowledge in Visual basic 6 applied to data bases construction. The spanish translation is good. The language is simple and accurate I am using it in my classes as a textbook.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Clear, concise, well-written, comprehensive tutorial!
Review: I absolutely love this book! The book is so clear and easily readable, I found myself breezing through the examples. I loved the coverage of SQL Server and SQL itself. McManus doesn't assume that the reader has any other tool but VB6, and explained the many database features of the language that I had never used before. I did not even know that VB6 provided a SQL query designer.

McManus also delved into Active Server Pages and other topics that were very interesting, but reserved such subjects for the end of the book.

I loved the writing style and the tutorials. I found not a single error in the step-by-step instructions for setting up SQL Server or the connections in VB. This book is full of useful information, and is my sole reference on database programming in VB.

Summary: Novice Visual Basic database developers will love this book!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Real help for VB6 database programming
Review: This book contains much of what a VB developer needs to make a VB6 app come to life. With all of the changes in database access, this book is a must for the VB6 database developer.

Summary: The greatest database programming book by a great author!!!!
Review: Database Access With Visual Basic 6 by Jeffrey P. McManus is truly the best database programming book you can find. Mr. McManus himself is a terrific author. He doesn't bore you out like many other author's, and he often drops in a little humor every here and there, just to keep you reading. His excellent, thorough coverage of database programming in VB, excessive knowledge about the program, easy-to-learn examples, and great writing talent make this book the best, most informational, easy to understand, and interesting programming book I have ever read! It is a MUST for every database developer!

Summary: Great-Book
Review: DB Access with vb6 has opened my eyes to a new world of programming. What I am referring to is the class encapsulation of the database access objects with VB6. I am constantly rewriting a lot of data access code that can be created as a class module. I have learned a lot from this book! Hope the author comes out with some more vb and OOP guides! Also, one of the first books I have found that teaches basic ADO 2 programming snippets ( instead of just using a Data Control, etc..)! Way to go, Jon

Summary: Good book for beginner
Review: This is a good book for beginning VB programmer. If you are an Access Programmer, look for other book like "Access 97 Power Programming" will provided all the help you need for VBA coding.
