Summary: Clear and detailed.
Review: This is definitely one of the better programming books. Some authors seem to take delight in making a topic much more complicated than it really is. Others (and these are the bad ones) will treat a subject in a glancing sort of way, giving you fragmented information which is worse than none because it makes you mad. With tear-stained cheeks and grinding teeth, you are then condemned to the darkness of Microsoft Documentation: there to wander, desperate and confused. For how long? Hours? Days, perhaps?

This book goes a much better job. Mr. McManus does not play puzzle games with the reader. He takes each topic and -- surprise -- he explains it. There are tons of examples on the CD.

Summary: Finding solutions to real world problems~
Review: I have bought a lot Access books (ten) but I couldn't find the info that I wanted on them, until I read this one...it's really great! Nice job!

Summary: One of my favorite VB database books!
Review: This is one of my favorite VB database programming books. Covers all aspects of VB6 database programming in a clear and concise manner using lots of sample code and screen shots. Excellent coverage of the new to VB6 database access technology ADO. I'm adding this book to my list of favorite VB database books on my Visual Basic Books and Reviews web site. A great buy!!

Summary: Get this book.
Review: I perceive that most folks writing tech books out there are not first and foremost authors so It's a pleasant surprise to find such good and accurate content (including the code on the CD)delivered like this. The author's style works well for me. I don't find myself distracted by what I would perceive as unnecessary comments causing me to re-read sections - it just flows. Though the book deals with the latest techniques it begins with a presentation of foundational database concepts which probably could serve as an absolute beginning of DBMS knowledge. It is also well indexed for those to whom that is important. What's wrong with the book? I only wish the screen caps could have been made a little larger. I will be looking for Jeff's work on other topics.

Summary: It is gem of a book that I've come across.
Review: I went through you book titled 'Database Access With Visual Basic'. It is gem of a book that I've come across. The best part of the book is, it's easy (language) presentation and fully lab based.

Most of the authors fail to consider these important qualities of a good book. No matter how advance a topic might be, it must be explained easily and practically like you book.

Summary: Concise and Well-Written
Review: I was being crushed by the number of choices and options in VB6 database programming...this book helped me sort things out and probably saved me months of poking around in the manuals.

Summary: The Book Is Gem
Review: This book is gem. It is enjoyable and readable. Reading the book remaind of the pleasant experience I have with my best teacher; competent and engaging.Although I have a lot of science background and was a COBOL programer, I always have the tendence to put the technical book down after 20 minutes. But this book is different, it is actually interesting to read. and I took the examples from the CD to run, not a hitch.(I had some pretty frustrated experience with another SQl/vb book's program therefore I am especially appeciate for Jeffery work). Everything is so smooth. You might think the book is only for the beginner, NO. the book has the breath and depth!!! Because the author experties I finally figure out Why some of the other examples from the other books is not working. the example is concrete and strightforward like the DCOM and 3tier Client/server. Like me tell you how I find out about this book. I paid for a trainning class for VB6.0 with my own money. The instuctor recommand books like master vb6.0 from microsoft. But I found out the instructor use the examples from this book to show us how vb6.0 function. so I bought myself a copy, and read it and I ask myself why would I pay so much money to the school if I had this book. I also recommend this book to one of my friends who is UNIX java people he like it very much. This is the best book I have read in database programming.

Contains useful information and examples - can't say that about many technical books either <g>. Especially useful,if you are working with VB6 and MS Access.
