Summary: great book, good work Rafeeq
Review: Absolutely great book. I used this and practice tests on HP education web site and passed the exam the first time. Great for learning about SVR4 Unix in general.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Poor Proof Reading!
Review: Be very carful when using this book as a reference. I've found about a dozen errors just in the first 100 pages. Granted none of them (so far) probably would cause problems for an experienced admin...but...I'm sure not all of us fall into that catagory.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good book ... but many errors
Review: Excellent book to buy for preparation of the HP exam. You have to know UX very well to pick up the errors in the book, the errata does not cover them all. Anyone know how I can contact the author or someone who could rectify the errors for future buyers. As mentioned, you must know UX - then the book is an excellent well structured and writing guide for certification. I am Solaris certified, and only wish I could buy such a good book for that exams I did.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: First Class Book
Review: Excellent UNIX book. Most UNIX books make out that the UNIX operating system is very complex. Rafeeq did a first class job of destroying the myth. HP-UX, like Solaris, like LINUX, like NT, is an operating system (OS) with limitations and peculiarities. The structure of book can help not only pass an exam (yet to do), but assist you in transitioning from any other OS to HP-UX.

Summary: I have been waiting years for a book like this!
Review: Finally it is here! A book on HP-UX that contains new information, not just the same reprinted stuff that we are used to. I just got the book today, and it looks fantastic! This book seems to be the very best one available at present.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Logic ok, but too many errors
Review: Great book to prepare for the exam. Most of the information is in the right order and fairly well described. But what disturbes me the most are the errors in text and questions. Stupid sentences showing some lack of language skills or misunderstanding ("Reboot your system using bdf or mount"!!)

Summary: Well done old school book
Review: I 've just recently passed the test using this book for studying. It does cover everything you need to know. It's a kinda old school book: very structured and honestly not much fun to read. The style it's written is more like technical documentation, some people like it, some don't. The bottom line: no fun, but it will get you there. Plus, I haven't seen anything better for this exam.

Summary: Strong buy recommended
Review: I am surprised to see this book after having so many books on HP-UX with same type of contents but different titles. I especially like the network administration part which is not available elsewhere. Not only the administration techniques are discussed but you will also get a very good introduction to different network services like DNS, NIS, NTP etc. For example, in addition to NTP configuration, there is information about how NTP works, what are time sources and stratum levels etc. Both command line and SAM are explained for different tasks, so you would like the book no matter you are a command line guru or love GUI. Buy it before the publisher again goes out of stock for two months.

Summary: A great place to start.
Review: I bought this book because I had minimal exposure to HP and was taking on an HP admin position. I found this book to be quite helpful for those of us who know unix, but are lacking on the HP flavor. I think the level of detail was appropriate for my needs, although I did find some typos. If you are either new to UNIX or new to HP, I recommend this book to help with your day to day tasks.

Summary: Many Area Not Covered, such as network area.
Review: I bought this book for the exam, and it helped, but not fully covered. For the system admin part, it is good. But for the network part, it is not good. I read the book twice in network part, and it is not very helpful. I faild the exam first time, as the network part was too low, though I scored pass totallly. Then I read it the second, and took the exam after three days. I merely passed the network part, but I do not feel this book is helpful. Some topics are not covered very well in network, such as DHCP, and Subnetting, where I could not find the answers for the exam.
