Summary: Very good book to help get you certified.
Review: This book reminds me of Alan Carter's NT 4.0 MCSE study guide - they both are nicely paced and cover about 90% of what you need to pass the test. If you have experience with HP-UX or have taken HP instructor led training, most of the material will be very familiar. In fact, this book is very similar to HP's "HP-UX for Experienced UNIX Administrators" class offering. There are some errors, however, but not anything out of the ordinary for a first printing. I also think the author did a good job of making LVM management easy to understand for newbies. Overall, this book is worth the money and your time in becoming HP Certified. Combine this book with Marty Poniatowski's HP-UX 11.00 Sys Admin Handbook to fill in any questions you might have and you will be on your way!

Summary: This book is different from others.
Review: This is a different book. The book is divided into three parts, as the certification exam is. The first part covers general UNIX related stuff. Second part covers HP-UX system administration tasks and the third part covers HP-UX network configuration and management issues (some of these are not covered by any other book on HP-UX). The book is to-the-point with many examples of the matter presented. There are study breaks within chapters that enable to review what you have learnt. I would suggest to keep it on your table for reference.

Summary: Would be a good book if not for all the errors
Review: This is a good book that is spoiled by the large number of errors. The errors range from typos to incorrect technical information. A lot of the errors appear in the 'Test Your Knowledge' section and some even appear in the sample certification exam. Considering the main audience for this book will be people studying for the HP certification exams these errors are disappointing and may cause people to get exam questions wrong.

Summary: Good book
Review: This is a good book to pass the exam as well as for reference. Good for new users of HP-UX also.

Summary: This Author should write more on UNIX
Review: This is by far among the best of the unix books I ever read, also recomanded is 'solaris 8 for managers and adminitrators'[ not by same author]. I did not take exam so I dont know about the flaw as some of the readers say, but this is the book in which you dont feel as if you are reading technical book and yet by end of the book you have the feeeling that ' wow! now I know a lot about HP' This autor should write books on AIX, Shell, SUN - or anything in UNIX!!!! Good job sir!

Summary: Being a Certified HP-UX System Administrator
Review: When I thought to be HP Certified HP-UX System Administrator, I looked around for a study guide for test preparation. Unfortunately none of the books available in the market covered all of the topics which are necessary to pass the comprehensive certification test. In fact, some of the required topics were not discussed at all in any of the available books on HP-UX. After passing the certification test, I was convinced to write this book exactly according the certification test requirements. The book is divided into three parts: basic UNIX concepts, HP-UX system administration and HP-UX network administration. Experienced HP-UX system administrators may find the first part easy but this is necessary to prepare for the test.

All chapters of the book contain study-breaks, end questions and sample test questions. These will be of great help to evaluate yourself and get an idea about what is going to be present in the actual test. After going through the book and having practice on HP-UX, I believe you will be able to pass the certification exam.

This book will help you learn new things no matter you are a novice or experienced user of HP-UX. I have tried my best to make it short, to-the-point and comprehensive. I welcome your comments and suggestions about the book, which can be sent directly to me at my email address rurehman@yahoo.com
