Summary: Howard Hawhee has another hit!!!
Review: Just like his VB5 exam guide from QUE, Mr. Hawhee has created the best book out there for the VB6 exams. I just passed the desktop exam. And I am sure that I will have the same result on the distributed. Thanks HH!!!

Summary: Great Transcender Replacement
Review: After you have done all your studying (mastering series, reading, labs, experience) you need to take some tests! This book more than covers the real thing (over 500 questions). A lot cheaper than the Transcender tests ($100+) and NO liscense agreement (share this book!).

Summary: Excellent book!
Review: This book absolutely can not give you all materials for MCSD, but it helped me to pass my test. That is all.

Summary: O Que de Melhor Existe no Planeta para Passar nos 70-175/176
Review: Este livro me surpreendeu. É extremamente bem organizado e bem escrito.

Summary: Junk and Don't buy
Review: I bought this book along with ten other books on VB6.0. I found this book useless. I believe in practice rather than preaching. The books I reviewed are listed here.

Summary: I do not recommend this book. It is filled with errors.
Review: Review of Howard Hawhee's Visual Basic 6 Exams 70-175 and 70-176

I am an experienced Visual Basic programmer. I wanted to become certified in Visual Basic, so I began studying for the exam. I bought QUE's Visual Basic 5 Exam Guide and was very, very pleased with the manner in which it supplied it's examples, supporting text, and test questions. Howard Hawhee was the author of that book. When I decided to study for the VB 6 exam, I wanted QUE's VB 6 book. I was not able to find it. I found out that the author of the VB 5 book that I had previously bought (Hawhee) was the author of this book. I bought THIS book because of 1 reason: the author, Hawhee. I expected it to be, at least comparable the VB5 book, but was I sadly mistaken. This book is filled with text that shows examples that doesn't correspond with the text. It has pictures of Visual Basic dialog boxes that are intended to support a given piece of text. In reality, that picture references an entirely different area in Visual Basic. There is text that is taken directly from the VB 5 book, that has supporting text added to it that contradicts the original text. There are sample test questions at the end of the chapters that show the "correct" answer to be different than the text in the corresponding chapter. There are some areas in the book that have text that is simply chopped off. The sentence just stops and there is example code that reads: '(0).Value = 100' and the remaining text is missing. The CD is missing files that the book says should be on it. I feel that the CD was included with the book simply to allow the publisher to advertise that the book contains a CD. I do not recommend this book and I would encourage others to use some other book for certification.

Summary: Error-rich, but thorough, well-written and well-designed
Review: Howard Hawhee's VB5 exam review (Que) was an outstanding resource for Visual Basic in general, not just for the test. It covered most every significant area of VB programming in a relatively easy-to-understand format. A few sections contained factual errors or were unclearly written, however, and much, if not most, of the sample code was incorrect. Sometimes it was simple syntax errors -- more often, the code samples had fatal flaws in design. For more confident readers, this could cause confusion at first, and irritation after a while; for people relying on the VB5 exam guide to teach them the language, this could cause, literally, hours of anxiety and numerous consultations with both human and literary resources.

Sample code should be perfect. No exceptions.

In many ways, the VB6 edition (New Riders) is even better than the VB5, but it is characterized by a frustratingly high level of cut-and-paste laziness. Errors that never should have made it past a rough edit in the VB5 edition were included verbatim in the VB6 edition. Nonetheless, the book covers every subject on the exam, and covers them all rather well. The CD-ROM included with the book is excellent, the sample exam questions (both in the book and on the CD) are realistic and thorough, and the CD has the entire text of the book in a searchable Adobe reader format. It's a nice bonus. The "Fast Facts" section is the most useful appendix one could wish for, with all of the important elements of the book condensed into about thirty pages. It is an outstanding review, and very helpful to read right before going into the test. (The "Fast Facts" section seems to be a characteristic of New Riders' exam guides, and by itself should earn them the first look when considering exam guides on the market.)

This book would be excellent for anyone with some VB experience trying to prepare for the MCP exams. A novice would likely be confused by the errors, and find this exam guide lacking in VB fundamentals. (Although the book includes an appendix covering most of the essentials of VB, in general the text presumes a working knowledge of Visual Basic. The VB5 book did a better job of covering the basics.)

Overall, this is a good choice of exam guide. Hopefully, future editions/future printings will exhibit better proofreading and closer scrutiny of code samples. (So far at least two different publishing companies have failed miserably to ensure adequate editing of Mr. Hawhee's work.) The sample code should be taken with a grain of salt; the book as a whole, however, is good work, and valuable exam preparation.

Summary: THE BEST preparation guide
Review: This guide is easily the best guide out there.i used only this guide to pass vb6.0 desktop.it is a detailed guide which does keep it's promise of being a one stop shop for the exam.there are a few typos.but that is the only critisism i can come up with. study this guide in detail.do the exercises and you will pass.

Summary: Very informative
Review: This book has most of what you need to know. It's the best out there, and I give it high recommendations. However, don't just use this book...get Transcender tests as well, they are so close to the real exam, I even had a couple of questions on my exam that were in my transcender tests. Dont take the test without this book and the practice tests.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Concise and Rock-solid Coverage
Review: This is an excellent book, provided you have time to cover 1,300 pages. Unlike most books on the subject, the exercises are mostly meaningful.

I wish they had a better separation on what material is covered by which exam.

I passed both exams from the first try.
