Summary: Good book
Review: I 've passed both exams. I suggest use that book with a Transcender VB Pack with Flash. Flash does a good job. Chapters are cover thoroughfully the exam subject except Chapter1,12,15,16,17,. You can count on other chapters.

Summary: Review for 70-175
Review: I am submitting another review for this book concerning the VB Distributed applications exam. The books strong points for exam 70-175 are for sections Creating User Services, Establishing Development Environment, Testing the Solution, and Deploying an Application. However the book needs to be supplemented for the following sections. I have listed books I used to help me study for the exam. Developing Conceptual Design and Deriving Physical Design (VB6 Business Objects, Lhotka), Creating & Managing COM Components (Developing COM/AX Components with VB6, Appleman), Creating Data Services(MTS Programming with VB, Hillier and ADO Programmers Reference, Sussman). The testing gods were kind to me as I passed with a 914 using the aforementioned materials.

Summary: Needs to supplemented
Review: This review is with respect to the VB-Desktop Exam 70-176. I will start by commenting on the books strong points. This book is a good study guide for exam catagories like Creating User Services, Creating Data Services, Testing Solution, and Deploying an Application. It does have mistakes, so if you read something that looks querky, you should confirm with VB documentation. This book however needs to be supplemented with other study materials for testing sections such as Establishing the Development Environment, Deriving the Physical Design, Creating and Managing COM Components, and Maintaining and Supporting an Application. I would recommend some of the Wrox books such as VB6 UML, Pro Business Objects, and Enterprise Application Architecture. P.S. I have passed the exam.

Summary: Excellent Reference for Exam Preparation and General Review
Review: I would recommend this book to anyone thinking of sitting the 2 VB6 exams or who would like a broad overview on Microsoft's latest release of VB. I used it to get up to speed with most of the new features in VB6, and also as my only reference to prepare for, and pass both VB6 exams. Experience and practice using the product are also necessary to do well in the exams.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Full of errors, but informative
Review: I was taken back from all the typos and syntax errors. If you already know VB this book is a great review, but you must be able to spot all their mistakes. I passed both exams easily and made a 928 on the 70-176. I have to give this book some of the credit. The sample exams are too easy to prepare for the real thing. I just happen to have a lot of VB experience so I found this to be a pretty good review.

Summary: Great Book! - Passed 70-176 easily
Review: This is a very good book. It was the only one I used to help me pass the 70-176 exam (842/1000). However, the book is lacking in information about the Data Environment designer. Now onto 70-175!

Summary: Wonderful
Review: a couple errors here and there, but nothing serious...this book + Transcenders = VERY EASY PASS

Summary: Thump!
Review: "Huh, what was that?"

"Yawwwnnnn. Uummpf, must have fallen asleep, AGAIN. Back to studying."

"Because the system was between two controls, calling the SetFocus method of the control being validated could cause the LostFocus event of a second control to fire. What if the second control in turn had similar validation code in its LostFocus event procedure? If there were a validation failure in the second control as well, then the second control would also try to "grab" focus back from the first control. The first control in turn would fire its LostFocus event a second time, and so on, in an infinite loop. To handle this problem of the dueling LostFocus event procedures, it was necessary to put a global flag variable in the application that would be set during a LostFocus event procedure's validation. In that way, other controls' validation code could check this flag and would not run if another control's validation were already pending."

THUMP!

Infinite loop indeed!

This is the hardest book I have ever tried to read, IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. Every page looks the same, the writing is dull, boring and filled with such consistent sameness that I'm sure Hawhee's editor threw his or herself out his window just to escape it.

If this tome is any indication, I expect that Hawhee's past is littered with the mysterious death's of editor's, friends, proof-readers and English teachers "WHO JUST COULDN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE! "

Please, hear me out! It's ok to put a little personality into the text. It's ok to have a little bit of style. It's ok to have a wee-bit of humor.

Hawhee has transcended mere boredom. Heading into the 21st century, I believe he will have contributed to the vitality of the living, changing English language when the following phrase will become common:

"He Hawhee'd him to death!"

Thump!

Summary: Too many pages ... you'll need months to get through it all
Review: however, it does cover all the topice. I thought I could use it as my only study guide, but it's just too big (too much information). Instead I ended up using it as a reference and primarily relied on the Transcender Flash and Transcender Exam products. Using all three methods, you're sure to pass.
