Review: This book is the best yet published for preparing for exam 70-176, desktop applications. Many books, particularly the Microsoft Press books, cover only a subset of the exam objectives. Hawhee covers them all and covers them with a minimum of fluff. The exercises in Hawhee will help those without VB development experience gain some of the hands-on experience they need to be successful. The exam questions Hawhee includes are quite close in terms of difficulty to what you'll face on the exam. There's two groups of folks who'll probably be unhappy: those who are annoyed by typos and those preparing for exam 70-175, distributed applications. If you're one of those folks who gets annoyed by typos, why not go with a book that doesn't prepare you as well but has fewer errors? You'll be happier. For exam 70-175, there is not yet an adquate exam prep book. You'll want to work with books specifically on MTS, COM and ADO or spend some time with the MSDN docs.

Review: I don't know how people can rate this book highly with so many typos and errors! The numerous errors in the answers to the exam questions cause doubt and second guessing. Coverage of some areas is shallow or missing. Consult other resources before taking any tests.

Review: I saw several books for 70-176 and I thisnk this is the best one, althought it has some minor errors. Software that comes with book is not good stuff, I would recomend Trancender. This book covers exam objectives enough deep to pass exam with great score. I had used VB only 4 monthes before test and after reading this book passed with score 871.

Summary: All the errors made me question the books credibility
Review: This book was AWFUL. I have never seen so many errrors in a book. The sections did not have enough detail to teach you much. On several practice tests, I found that I got questions wrong only to find out that the answer was not displayed as an option. I expected more from Hawhee after hearing all the good things about his VB 5 book. This was by far the worst book I have ever read. I passed the test but no thanks to Hawhee.

Review: I looked at a lot of books when I was studying for the 70-176 exam, and this books was by far the best. It is very comprehensive and thorough. This books contains very good exercises that you can code in your self. I passed the test last night and I owe a lot to this book.

Review: I just passed 70-176 with this book and Transcender's practice exam. The combination was sufficient but the book did not cover the various app deployment scenarios thoroughly. Also, try to supplement the book's coverage of COM Component management and selection from another source. This book was weak in this area.

Summary: The Guys that Wrote this Book are Retarted
Review: I read this book cover to cover. There are no less than 500 errors, omissions, typos, and contradictions in this text. However, the book does attempt to address all of the exam objectives published by Microsoft. It touches on the basic essentials and should be used as a starting point to do your own research. This book must have been written in about 20 minutes and proofread by a monkey, because it is quite inaccurate and hilarious in some cases. Be forwarned that if you plan to pass the exams you should not believe any information in this book, but just use it as a general guide. I cannot believe Microsoft approved it as a study guide. Some of the code snippets in this book do not even run. Good Luck, and Beware.

Review: Simply put, I have never used Visual Basic, yet I passed the MCSD VB 6.0 Desktop Exam with a score of 814 after reading the Book in 4 days. Excellent Sample tests, and software.

Review: I Barely passed the desktop exams a Few days back. Only reading this book will Not Help U pass the exams, It lacks in covering some of the very important objectives for the exam, like ADO and COM, The writer could have emphasized more on testing and debugging Components and on Deployment. The Questions at the end of the chapter are too straightforward and simple.CD contains practice exams which are worthless. Well, But This book is the best among all the other books available for the purpose,It might serve the purpose If u use MSDN to go with It.. Wish U all the best
