Rating: Summary: A Great book for both beginners and experts! Review: This is a really great book for EVERYONE!!!!! I know HTML pretty well, but I have never really gotten into scripting before. This book brought me into it easily. In the front of the book is a basic overview of JavaScript and its capabilities, and the rest is helpful information on individual parts of a script. If you need one book on the subject, get this one!

Rating: Summary: Brilliant - must-have for anyone wanting to learn JavaScript Review: Firstly - compliments to Amazon for the speedy delivery and excellent service. Local distributors in South Africa quoted 6 - 10 weeks delivery - Amazon had it in my hands in 2 and a half days for much less money (including delivery)! A good all round book for anyone wanting to learn JavaScript - Goodmans obvious knowledge is passed on in an easy to understand style - an enjoyable experience! Thanks Danny Goodman!
Rating: Summary: The one book to have if you want to learn JavaScript Review: When I was first learning JavaScript a year or so ago, I bought a couple of different books, all of which wasted half their space explaining HTML and the world wide web. Then the things they explained about JavaScript were either cryptic, badly written, or just plain wrong. Then, thankfully, the third time was the charm. I had bought the 2nd edition of this book, and it was everything I could have hoped for. The 3rd edition has only improved on the previous one. Now I can look up any element of JavaScript and know which browsers it will and won't work with. I get lots of concrete examples that I can take, combine, mutate, and play around with until I get what I'm looking for in my scripts. And any time I need to double-check how something works, it's a quick page flip away. If you only have the money to buy one book about this language, and you're not already a heavy-duty programmer, then buy this book! It's worth every penny.
Rating: Summary: Great reference as well as tutorial Review: I wish there were more books like this for other languages. I am a perl programmer with a strong HTML background. The Javascript Bible is a very detailed book that makes it easy to find info quickly and explains things thoroughly. It also provides examples to further illustrate concepts. I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: The Best JS book I've seen... Review: I'm not a programmer. I have been doing HTML for a couple of years tho. Usually, when needing a JavaScript, I would look at somebody else's, and then tweak it to suit my needs. I've bought other JavaScript books in the past...but never fully understood what I was doing. For the first time, I'm coding JavaScript, and actually *understanding* what each line of code does. A great book for JS beginners...teaches the basics without being condescending, or "dummying things down"...but teaches in plain english. I cannot recommend this book enough.
Rating: Summary: Simply the best JavaScript tutorial to read Review: I truly enjoyed the week I spent going through Mr. Goodman's book. In a very easy-to-read format, he explains the basic concepts of JavaScript programming, and his examples will immediately inspire you with thoughts of how to apply the concepts. His examples are excellent and informative -- every one I tried ran correctly right off the CD (in Netscape 4.04). While not as rich in sample code and intimate syntax as Sun's "Jumping JavaScript," it's a great complement to that book. I'd get them both, read Goodman's (esp. the first 15 chapters) to become familiar with the language, then use both for their valuable examples of how to implement the language and make your web pages dance. Happy reading, all!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Worth the Money Review: JavaScript is easy to learn & this book proves it, this is my umpteenth JavaScript book, and I wish I would have saved all that money and bought this one first. Strong Points * No long intro explaining what html is and how www works. * Organized by Objects. This makes it a quick reference. * Huge Index. A little light on Modern JavaScript (Layers,CSS). I heghly recommend this reference!!!
Rating: Summary: Weak tutorial but probably a good reference. Review: The tutorial in this book is confusing. I can write scripts by following the examples, but I'm not sure of what I am doing. Having never done any JavaScripting before, I based my purchase decision on the reviews here at Amazon. I am now going to buy a "dummies" book and use this as a reference.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding tutorial and reference Review: Danny Goodman actually teaches you how to program -- his explanation of concepts is clear and concise, his examples are relevant and reusable, and if you've never written any kind of program before, he demystifies the process. He also provides excellent ongoing support online -- all errors are noted, examples updated, etc., a feature that really adds value to this purchase. If you buy only one JavaScript book, buy this one.
