Summary: Nicely done and much improved.
Review: I still believe that the "Instant" series of books by Wrox has the ultimate in easy to follow steps, but Danny gets much closer this time. This book is infinitely easier to follow than his older books and I love the Compatibility checkmarks showing the reader browser compatibility for nearly every method or property.

Summary: Best in its class
Review: Most of the javascript books I have purchased are fairly incomplete and confusing. The first one I purchased was Steven Holzner's "JavaScript Complete". While that book has a few worthy pieces of advice, it is by no means the definitive reference that this book is. When I discovered the JavaScript Bible, and purused the index, I sighed with relief, "Finally, a cross platform book I can trust."

Summary: GREAT BOOK!
Review: I've only read the first few chapters so far, but I have read enough to know that this is a great book. I highly recommend it. If you want to learn JavaScript, read this book.

Summary: Pretty Good
Review: I'm an intermediate level programmer/advanced HTML developer, and I found this book extrememely helpful. The tutorials are great. However, after I "got the hang of it," I moved to O'Reiley's Javascript book to use as a reference. Goodman's book is still a pretty good reference book, but I haven't found anything that beats an O'Reiley book for this purpose.

Summary: Experienced Programmer? Try another book.
Review: I purchased this book along with O'Reilly's "JavaScript: The Definitive Guide" to help me learn JavaScript *fast* for a big project.

While Goodman's text and examples were interesting, as an experienced developer I found the O'Reilly book far more useful, both for its detailed explanation of the language and its reference.

What would greatly improve this book, imho, would be a page layout redesign and some more serious editing. A sharper focus on intended audience (beginner at JavaScript? beginner at WWW? etc.) wouldn't hurt, either.

I remain a fan of Danny Goodman's work -- and I don't consider my purchase of this book a waste of money -- but I feel he does his best work with other publishers.

Summary: No Patient to read through
Review: It is good for you if you are a beginner and have patient to read through from the beginning to the end. It is not very helpful if you already know some javascript. JUNK!!!

Summary: A Great Reference!
Review: I've gone through many a thick tome of Internet and related knowledge and this is one of my favorites. Admittedly, many beginning Javascript users will be turned off by both the size and the language the book uses, but for the intermediate user or the advanced user, this book proves to be an excellent reference. Almost all the the supported (and a couple of the non-supported) methods and properties are listed here, as well as some nice examples of practical and useful scripts. To make a long story short: If you're an 'expert' JS scripter, go to W3C or the ISO for the latest news. If, however, you are just starting out or need a good reference, this is for you.

Summary: It gets you going fast
Review: I find this book to be very comprehensive. If you want to learn JavaScript this book brings you along like a course book. At the end of each chapter there are exercises that test you to make sure you understood the chapter. If you don't, you know what to re-read.

All you need to learn Javascript is a computer, a browser, this book and understanding of the english language. That is a gap that the Author did not fill.

Happy Scripting!

Summary: Good Tutorial and detailed reference.
Review: If you already know OO programming, this is a good introduction to Javascript. The tutorial will get you going quickly, and reads in about a week. The bulk of the book is a reference to the Javascript objects. CD also contains a large library of objects.

Summary: The New Testament of Javascript!
Review: About a year ago my company wanted to change our website from non-frames based to frames based with some flashy images. Thanks to the Javascript Bible our team was able to use many of the tips and techniques from the tons of supplied examples to make our website a success. Once the other developers got word of this, I haven't been able to keep the book at my desk! The examples are clear and concise and every Javascript function and its browser compatibility are discussed in detail. From dummy to advanced users, the book has it all. The only Javascript book you'll need!
