Rating: Summary: The best JavaScript source out yet! Review: Although I'm kind of an experienced programmer, I found it very plausible for non-programmers. Although it may seem that he doesn't fully address some topics at the beginning, you aren't supposed to know what he's talking about in detail, because he usually explains it all in detail a chapter after he mentions it! If you want to learn more complex languages in the future, please read this book first, because he also teaches you the fundamentals of programming.
Rating: Summary: Excellence Review: I have one word to sum up my review of this book: "Wow!" Danny Goodman once again delivers an excellent masterpiece. The organization and systematic approach to everything you could possibly want to know about JavaScript is absolutely beautiful. Not only is this book a totally breath-taking reference, but it is also absolutely marvelous to read cover-to-cover. I found myself with more knowledge than I could ever imagine gaining from a book. And hey, we all seem to forget things when we've read a book as long as this. Solution: the index. This book's index points you to exactly where you need to be. All in all, if I had to pick the most excellent JavaScript book I had ever read--and believe me I have read many!--it would have to be this one!
Rating: Summary: Great Book For Beginners. Review: If you are a beginner/intermediate with javascript this is the book for you. I started out knowing a good bit about javascript and this book helped me out a little. It's a good reference for anything you need to know about javascript. Other than using it as a reference I didn't have much use for it. But it's good none the less.
Rating: Summary: The cover says it all, 100% comprehensive. Review: This book is one of the best reference tools I've ever used. Not only does it completely describe every difference between IE and NetScape, it goes a step further by providing work arounds that have been tested for years and are certain to work. The code examples contained on the cd that comes with the book are worth the purchase price alone and Danny Goodman is constantly providing updates to those examples at his website www.dannyg.com. With Danny Goodman, you're not just buying a book, you're buying into a world of information.
Rating: Summary: Great book... a steep learning curve, yes. Does it pay off? Review: yes, yes, yes... I hope you will find this the best book out there on a subject as unstandardized as javascript... You are never unsure what works in what browsers. The book is included as free-text searchable .pdf file, so searching is easy, and pays off most of the time. Sure beats the index at the back for convenience:-)
Rating: Summary: Not at all good for a beginner as it states Review: I'm a newcomer to programming. The author gives tutorials with lessons at the end. When you look up his answers, he presents you with lingo that he has yet to talk about. How he expects anyone to understand something they have yet to learn bedazzles me. He starts slow so you open the CD and cancel your return options, but then gets very technical very fast. Too fast for a beginner. Maybe for intermediate readers. Try Netscape Javascript 1.2 if you are a newcomer like me. They are very slow and smooth. This was an excellent learning tool and they are the Javascript Pros. Unfortunately, I had alredy wasted my time trying to read three other books. Make this your first choice and enjoy.
Rating: Summary: Worth The Money And Then Some!!! Review: Great book! I would also include David Flanagan's O'Reilly book--it has a Rhino on the cover--in my JavaScript library but this is the best for a beginner. Great tutorial and reference. If you don't know JavaScript after reading this book then the fault is not with the author.
Rating: Summary: Good reference if you know what you're doing Review: After having read the first thousand or so pages, I'm finally getting the hang of it. I've read all the good reviews on this one and I'm almost afraid to slam it, but it took me a long time to appreciate this book. It was recommended as the best reference on JavaScript, and now that I know what I'm doing, I would have to say it's a pretty good reference. I guess I was expecting javascript to be as easy to pick up as HTML. Wrong! I didn't realize how much closer javascript is to actual programming.
Rating: Summary: It is one of the best books on the subject Review: It is written in a very systematic and well thought manner. I found it very helpful understandig the JavaScript concepts and learning it to my satisfaction. The author seems dedicated to his job and very sincere to his readers.
Rating: Summary: By far the best way to learn Javascript Review: Danny Goodman's Javascript bible is wonderful for experienced programmers as well as beginners to learn Javascript. You can read through it to get an idea of what Javascript is capable of, but it also serves as an easy to use reference to look back and refresh yourself on the details. Don't let the size intimidate you, this is the best Javascript book on the market right now.
