Summary: Get a life again!
Review: This book will give back hours every day. Dinner is in the crockpot by 8 am and I am DONE! So far the recipes have been a hit with my family (picky eaters included). There is quite a bit of "duplication" meaning several versions of the same type dish, but with over 400 recipes, you have LOTS to choose from. Everything from breakfast to breads to soups to main dishes and deserts--fabulous! Wish I'd had this book 20 years ago!

Summary: Wish I found this book years ago!
Review: With the impending birth of our twins, this book is definitely coming in handy. My husband will be in charge of the cooking and since the crockpot is the easiest thing in the kitchen since a grater ... this cookbook is going to be a lifesaver.

I first saw that my sister-in-law had a copy of it and after thumbing through it, I just had to get my own copy! I am going to be trying out the barbecue pork chops this week ~~ and my husband will be trying different recipes as well ~~ and it'll be the saving grace for a tired new mom!

Summary: The art of tastelessness
Review: I have tried about 20 recipes from this book and I have to say that are only about 2 that I would make again. I've never eaten anything as tasteless as Mom's spaghetti sauce (no offense to Mom). You can tell that she worked hard to concoct the perfect combination of spices to cancel each other out. Aside from that, who needs 50 different recipes for beef stew? Was the book written by chickens? I would definately consider other books.

Summary: Title says it all
Review: My wife and I both work, so it is a challenge to cook meals when we get home from a long day at the office. Since we got the Fix It and Forget it Cookbook, cooking supper is so easy. My wife and I just fill it full of goodies in the morning before we go to work and when we get home, our meal is ready to eat. This cookbook provides us with so many options, everyday can be a new and deliteful eating experience.

Summary: Great- if you have no taste
Review: A collection of recipes using mostly cans of this or that. No discussion on technique or what makes a slow cooker desirable as opposed to anything else. Very few recipes using actual fresh food! Completely bizarre to me. If cooking is such a pain for you, eat out.

Summary: So Easy and Yet SOOOO Good!!!
Review: An earlier review criticized this book as a 'Cattle Call for Recipes'. My response is: So What!! The book is a collection of favorite recipes submitted by people like you and me who actually use a slow cooker. I like 'digest cookbooks' because the recipes represent dishes that someone has tried and found to be so successful, that they will submit them for others to enjoy. This book fits well into that category. There are lots of recipes and many are similar, but each has a little twist that produces a different flavor. What a perfect gift to accompany a new slow cooker! The recipes will work beautifully for anyone and especially for people who hate to cook or are new to the kitchen. From snacks to desserts, you will find something that will delight you, your family or your guests.

Summary: I use it at least three times a week!
Review: I borrowed this book from the library where I work, and after renewing it a few times, I realized I didn't want to ever take it back. That's when I bought it. At first glance, the contents seem repetitive. For instance, there are several pages of beef stew recipes. I find this to be a help, because if I don't have the ingredients for one, I'll have the ingredients for another. I love the bean soups, Barbara's Chicken Rice Casserole, and all the keilbasa recipes best, but I plan to use all of the recipes at one time or another. I can't speak highly enough of this book. There are bread and dessert recipes included as well.

Summary: Lots & lots of slow cooker recipes!
Review: This is a very useable cookbook with lots of recipes. However, many of the recipes are variations on the same dish. Not that this is a complaint -- you can choose the one that sounds best & works best for you.

I'm a vegetarian and don't often buy non-vegetarian cookbooks, but this is one of the few I did. There are many vegetarian recipes or those that can be easily converted.

Summary: Better than I initially thought
Review: ...I bought it thinking there HAD to be some recipies I would like and use often. My big complaint about crock pots is that it seemed to me that no matter WHAT you cooked, it all came out tasting sort of the same. Not too tasty, sort of blah.
When I got the book I thought "These are all the same recipies I already have from the internet and magazines, just with 10 variations of each". But, upon closer inspection and some trial and error, there are truly some unique, good, usable recipies here.
If you're a cook book user and need some variety in your slow cooking repetoire, this is well worth the money. You just have to be willing to try a lot of the recipies to find the best ones.

Summary: Not exactly haute cuisine, but has a lot of useful recipes
Review: Yes, crock pots, once considered a kind of quaint relic of the seventies, are making a comeback. And why not? The basic idea is that you take a bunch of ingredients, throw them into the crock pot in the morning, and by dinnertime, voila--you have something hot, fragrant, and tasty. And what's more, a lot of the foods cooked this way taste even better as leftovers.

The strength of this cookbook is in the sheer volume of recipes provided, and in their overall simplicity. These truly are "fix it and forget it" types of dishes, including a lot of soups, chiles, and simple stews. Surely out of the 800+ recipes here anyone who purchases this book will find enough winners to make it a worthwhile buy.

Potential buyers should be forewarned, however, that this is by no means *haute cuisine*. Lots of the recipes include generous glops of canned creamed soups, dry soup mixes, canned vegetables, "American" cheese, and other gastronomical abominations. The point is, however, that there are so many recipes included that it's easy to skip over those and go on to ones that appear more promising.

The bottom line is that during the short time that I have owned this book, it has proven itself incredibly valuable and useful. My wife and my family are very glad that I picked it up, and that I brought the ol' crock pot out of its previously semi-retired state.
