Rating: Summary: The cookbook that will be part of generations to follow. Review: I refer to her as Aunt Elodia when people ask me where I got the recipe. The recipes have not only reminded me of the long ago cooking we took for granted as kids, but has allowed me to cook these easy, delicious and so authentic Italian dishes for my family. The generation that cooked these dishes so perfect is dwindling away and this book acts as a tribute to them. "Aunt" Elodia will help keep my Italian cooking traditions alive. Reading her recipes makes me want to be in her kitchen dipping the bread in the sauce and picking on everything else! She writes like she's right there in the kitchen teaching you. You will want to cook every recipe many times. If my generation only had the time! Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Super Special Review: I'm so sorry it is out of print, because this is the kind of cookbook every generation should have avaiable to them.It is filled with so much more than just good recipes; much of it has to do with the great joy of dining together as a family, not watching T.V., but enjoying each others company around the dining table.
Rating: Summary: Absolute all-time favorite cookbook Review: If you are looking for an Italian cookbook, stop your search. You will do no better than to purchase this book by Elodia Rigante. After more than five years of exploring this cookbook, we still haven't found a poor recipe. Excellent value and accessible instructions. We return to it in our kitchen regularly and have practically memorized some of our favorite recipes.Great background material as well on the early 20th Century Italian immigrant experience ala Brooklyn.
Rating: Summary: THE GREATEST COOKBOOK I HAVE EVER OWNED Review: IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SIMPLE TASTY FOOD THIS IS NIRVANA ! PS... I AM STILL TRYING TO FIND FRESH HOT MOZZORELLA
Rating: Summary: Neighborhood recipes Review: Mrs. Rigante and my husband's grandmother were aquaintances in her Brooklyn neighborhood; they lived just a few blocks from one another. Grandma didn't write down a lot of her recipes, so Mrs. Rigante's cookbook is a lifesaver. Their recipes are so similar it's like having a bit of home every time you open up the book. We can't look through it without getting hungry! Every recipe we've tried is excellent, and I love the family anecdotes and pictures. This is a staple for every cookbook collection.
Rating: Summary: Quintessential Italian cookbook! Review: Mrs. Rigante filled a wide gap in my cooking that came from never knowing my Italian grandmother. Her recipes are superb, diverse, flavorful, rich in taste and tradition. Not only is her book warming in its anecdotes and history, but truly, it is unparalleled in its selection and quality of recipes. It is with pride that I prepare the recipes from this book.
Rating: Summary: Buy the Book for the Manicotti Crepes alone Review: My sister had this book and made the Manicotti Crepes and meatballs for a family dinner. I liked it so much, I bought my own copy of the book. Elodia's recipes are great, they are old-fashioned good but suited to the busy working cook.
Rating: Summary: Issue another printing of this cookbook! Review: My whole family wants their own copies. Why aren't they printing more issues of this fabulous cookbook? What a waste that more people can't own it and make it a part of their lives, too. These recipes are just like the ones my father's family from Naples makes, it is real Italian cooking. The best!
