Summary: A Mind Opener
Review: I read this book this weekend and was very impressed with the author, the story and the large amount of information it presented. My brother had a head injury last year and is making tremendous progress, however, I learned much new information by reading this book and I can better understand what he has been going through. My respect for him and all others who struggle and fight to overcome and come to terms with this type of injury is immeasurable. You will learn alot and cry alot from this personal and profound book.

Summary: SAY YOU SAY ME... A STORY WHICH REALLY HITS HOME
Review: I SUFFERED A SERIOUS HEAD INJURY IN JANUARY 1984,& THE EFFECTS STILL LINGER. MANY OF MY INNER MOST FEELINGS I COULD NOT PUT INTO EXPLAINABLE UNDERSTANDABLE FORM UNTIL I READ THIS BOOK!! TEARS ROLLED DOWN MY FACE,AS I READ WHAT,IN MANY PAGES,DESCRIBED ME TO-A-T. .. MY ONLY CRITICISMS ARE THAT THE BOOK FAILS TO MAKE EVEN A MENTION OF 2 HEALTHCARE RESOURCES THAT SAVED MY MIND, SOUL,CAREER,EDUCATION,WELLBEING (ETC),DR HAROLD LEVINSON MD PC AND HELEN IRLEN MA,BOTH OF WHOSE BOOKS ARE ON AMAZON.COM ,BOTH OF WHOSE BOOKS I REVIEWED ON SAME & WHOSE PATIENT I AM (OF BOTH) I HOPE CLAUDIA & OTHERS READ THESE TWO OTHERS' BOOKS!!! Summary: Interesting story of recovery
Review: I thought Claudia told the story of her recovery very well. I gave it 4 stars because she never mentioned that she was riding without a helmet (which professional reviewers of this book have stated). I am amazed that no one else has commented on this. Of course the accident was not her fault. However, an important issue was avoided, which makes this book less valuable than it could have been.

Summary: Refreshing, Challenging, and Meaningful
Review: I would recommend anyone who has sustained tbi to read this book. I could'nt put the book down. It gave me the resources and important information from a doctor's point of view. I sustained a traumatic brain injury in a car accident in January 1997. I am taking things one day at a time. This book has helped me move on in a postive way. Also after reading this book I knew that I am not alone dealing with tbi.

Summary: An excellent book for TBI relatives and friends
Review: It is a disappointment that people, especially kids, are not told she wasn't wearing a helmet while riding her bike. I never fail to tell kids that if I hadn't had my own, not-a-beatup-loaner, approved motorcycle helmet on when I crashed a hang glider, I would have died for sure as I came back from a coma etc. to a good life. Just a little more damage from a poor helmet would have killed me, or turned me into a life support cabbage.

the book is very good otherwise, and I recommend it to anyone trying to understand how someone with TBI can do some things fine, but not others.

Best description of TBI I have made up, which could be applied to hers; Your brain is a map on the wall. Close your eyes, reach behind you and grab an unknown number of darts. Throw them blindly at the map. Some areas get hit, some don't, some totalled. It's not an IQ thing.

Summary: Over My Head
Review: It was not until Dr. Osborn explained some of the personal challenges to adjusting to TBI that I began to understand my son and the changes in him since his brain injury. Where before I felt despair, I now see hope and inspiration. My son who was injured is now reading the book and is greatly gratified to have Dr. Osborn's voice reveal so much of his own experience.

This book is a MUST for families, employers and loved ones, as well as patients.

Summary: TBI victims: This is a must read
Review: My head injury was in OCT, 96. At the time I picked up Claudia's book I was depressed and ashamed that I was still not back at work. This book is literally changing my entire perspective on life, myself, and my feelings about the progress that I have made. As other reviewers have said, this is my story too and my copy is heavily annotated with post-its. Claudia is helping me to accept the very different person that my head injury left and to realize that my deficits go beyond the intellectual and physical. With understanding, change is possible.

I would recommend to anyone regardless of whether they currently have TBI or know someone with TBI. I wish that I had read this book before my injury - it would have helped my understand what I was going through and to take joy in my accomplishments rather than focus on what I still couldn;t do.

Summary: Why did nobody tell me this book existed 4 years ago?
Review: My husband, Brian, suffered a severe head injury nearly 5 years ago, and I was always so desparate to help him as much as I could. Having read Claudia's story, I know I didn't always get it right, didn't understand enough, have enough patience. But I knew I loved him and wanted to help him to be the best he could be. I wish I'd read the book years ago. Brian is also now reading it, and is laughing where I cried.

Summary: What a relief to know we're not alone!
Review: My mother suffered a severe head injury three years ago. Not only does this book share the pain and agony of being the victim of such an injury but she gives us a peek of how her caregivers had to learn to cope as well. A severe head injury can literally change a loved one into a stranger and this author repeatedly show us how difficult it was for her to find out who she had become. While others around her knew she was no longer the same person, it was months before Dr. Osborne could admit that to herself. Reading this autobiography was like looking into a window of our own lives. I highly recommend this book to persons suffering a severe head injury and to their caregivers.

Summary: A beacon of hope
Review: My son, a TBI survivor, brought this book to me. It is is refreshing to read about TBI from the victim's veiwpoint, as opposed to an 'expert'. It makes understanding how one with a brain injury thinks, and now thinks differently, because 'normal' and 'logical' become completely redefined after TBI. I believe it should be made required reading for anyone affected by TBI in any fashion because it offers tips on coping skills as well as a beacon of hope, written in such a way that when I finished reading and re-reading it,I felt I was finally prepared to deal with and accept this new kid that TBI left me with. And, to grieve without guilt over the son I no longer had.
