Summary: "Wonderful for anyone in medical field with HTR themselves
Review: This is a great book for any one who works in the medical field and has also had a head injury themselves. The perspective of the doctor having the injury shows how difficult it is to return to medicine, and through the phases of recovery how hard it is to accept a change in your field. And how coworkers see you as the same person pre-injury,but you are'nt.Also how saying " I forget that all the time" can hurt.

Summary: Determination and compensation for unrecognized disability
Review: What I like most about Claudia's book is the very down to earth practical examples of the difficulty to live with cognitive consequences of TBI. As a "significant other half" of a TBI I am amazed to read Claudia's experience so similar to Paolo's, apart from the hemiplegia. We felt very lonely in this struggle to "return", support waned as time passed. It is so difficult to keep friends and family patient and raise their awareness about the roots of the difficulty to comunicate, how to limit confusion, avoid the flooding and provide structure. I now often loose patience with them! It gives hope to read Claudia's journey, it is good to hear the appreciation of making the other aware of the problems in daily life, tell them what you expect from them, because it is painful to have to "remote control" a loved person! The edge between fair and offensive comments is often thin, we all have to manage expectations of improvement but may not forget to live well every single day. Acceptance vs fighting is often a delicate challenge. Thank you Claudia for expressing all this, we must improve awareness of those problems because there are many of us struggling with the lack of recognition that compensation works, that it takes loads of time but that it is worth pursuing!! Most physicians never gave us any hope... I will give a copy of the book to Paolo's most sensitive therapists.

Summary: a must read
Review: When I first bought Claudia's book, I was only able to read (and deal with) the first 50 pages because her story is so very much like my own. Beginning with the accident (although I was on a horse rather than a bike when hit by an auto), to the fact that we even live in the same state, had to deal with the same insurance company, I was trying to persue a career in medicine (albiet veterinary rather than human), have connections to certain places (in the greater Detroit and Lansing areas), and even to the out come of the legal issues dealing with the "kid" who hit me (he was "under insured" also just as the "kid" who hit Claudia).

I have ordered additional copies for my family to help them understand that who I was 8/20/95 died that day and I am still learning who and what I am and can become. It is a slow, some times very painful process complicated when the outside of me looks pretty much the same to family and friends (most of the actual physical scars are hidden by hair or clothing for me). Claudia's book can help both the injured and the family better understand the re-birth of a head injured person.

Thank you to Robert for taking the time to read the book, help me more fully understand it (and myself), implement some new strategies my doctors hadn't even thought of suggesting, sorting through some of the triggers for my adynamia, occassional disinhibition, most of all the violent migranes I've had since the "accident", and suggesting that I give a copy to each of my family members and friends. Every person who has had to deal with a head injury should read this book!

Summary: This book is the most relevant work on TBI I've ever read.
Review: When I first saw Dr. Osborn on 20/20, I thought, "Damn! She wrote my book". By the time I got 20 pages into it, my thoughts changed to,"Thank God! She wrote my book". Claudia Osborn has been inside my head. She has expressed what I've been thinking since my brain injury better than I ever could. I have suggested this book to all of my friends, and have given copies to several of the people who have worked with me during my rehab. This book has helped foster better understanding among my friends and therapists. It has made it much easier for my friends to accept and deal with the new person I have become since TBI. It has also made it easier for me to accept myself and live the new life I've been given. We have effectively used parts of Over My Head as a basis for discussion in our TBI support group.

Summary: A clearer view of the survivors thoughts
Review: Your book answered many questions that I had about how the brain injured survivor is thinking. My husband has anoxia and we are struggling to reestablish our life. Some of the same things that happened to you, we have experienced and I did not understand why. Your book answered some of my questions.
