Rating: Summary: Franken's satire thins Rush's bulk Review: To truly enjoy this book, the reader should surround himself with people of all political persuasions, like...say...an airport terminal. Then laugh uproariously while reading the book in an unconformatably close proximity to a Dittohead. At great personal risk, I "shared" my find with whichever stranger, usually conservative, who took a sidelong glance at me during one of my many guffaws. Franken's book is worth every one of the 240 minutes it takes to read. The glossary is absolutely brilliant
Rating: Summary: conservatives:stop whining Review: If you're like me, and are sick of hearing conservatives blame everything that doesn't go their way on the "liberal media" than you should enjoy this book.Franken takes Rush and basically kicks his ass
Rating: Summary: conservatives:stop whining Review: Because of his great oratory skills R.L. is able to scare off those who disagree w/him. Until now, that is.Franken takes on Rush and basically kicks his ass.If you're like me, and are tired of consevatives blaming everything that doesn't go their way on the "liberal media" then you'll enjoy this book
Rating: Summary: Al Franken scores a knockout Review: Al Franken discloses the sordid truth about the moral majority, and as expected, the emperor has no clothes. It appears that Franken will take the mantle of the next great liberal satirist from the likes of Mort Sahl. In fact I would say he is the greatest satirist of the twentieth century! A must read for anyone who is tired of the unchecked conservative blather on the airwaves
Rating: Summary: Another person making a living off of Mr. Limbaugh. Review: After reading Mr. Franken's book it is obvious to anyone who has ever listen to Mr. Limbaugh that [Franken] has never really listen to his show. There are many inaccurate statements and vile personal attacks which serve no purpose but to help sell his book. I just wish when someone is trying to discredit Mr. Limbaugh they would have actually listen to him. There was a very extensive study done by the Annenburg School of Communications from the University of Pennsylvania (75 pages) which proves Mr. Limbaugh does the best job of informing his audience of current events
Rating: Summary: Pure Power in Political Humor Review: The humor catches your eye and the heavily researched facts displayed in the chapters will hook you! Franken criticizes
not just Limbaugh but everyone from Gramm to Gingrich to
Dole to Buchanan. If you need some good liberal satire.
Look here.
Rating: Summary: It's ABout Time, A must Read Review: As a distraction from monotonous election coverage (5000 more votes are in Jane, this race is still too close to call, repeat every 20 minutes for 5 hours...), I decided to finally read the copy of this book I initially bought because the title was so funny.
I had put off reading the book because I feared that it would be funny, but essentially a one joke premise. I mean Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot, but 200 pages of pointing out how ridiculous Rush's claims are would get old fast. If anyone is out there avoiding this back for that reason, Don't. This is a must read for anyone who is sick of the right getting a free ride by the (supposedly Liberal) U.S. media.
Franken's gift is to be both hilariously funny (read the book with his deadpan delivery in mind) and very astute about the US political and economic scene. Any serious commentary on Rush and his ilk is of course pointless; how can you have a serious debate with someone who claims "we have more trees in America now than when Columbus first arrived" and other such nonsense. What makes this book work is that Franken combines broad satire (beat them at their own game) with well researched data.
Hopefully this is just a beginning for Franken. We could use a PJ O'Rourke of the left.
Rating: Summary: Very intertaining--factual and fun Review: Al Franken's book is a delightful mixture of ad hominem attack--which is only justified, given the target--and reasoned, pointed attack on the often spurious claims of the right in general and Limbaugh in particular. It's a little uneaven, and he seems to be stretching things a bit in the middle of the book, but good stuff pops up throughout. It succeeds as both pointed humor and as savvy political observation
Rating: Summary: Mega-Dittos Review: Al Franken is my hero. He uncovers the outrageous behavior and nefarious motives of those (conservative morons) who assail normal people (moderates and liberals). This book is funnier when you can imagine Al Franken saying what you read. I love this book
Rating: Summary: Stewart Skewers Limbaugh & Saves The American Family! Review: Of course Al Franken did not write this wildly accurate uppercut to the chin of conservative Republicans as his lovable character Stewart Smalley
but the humor with witch Franken delivers this knockout punch is not to be missed. Not only is
the hypocrisy of Limbough's life exposed but so is that of other political pests
such as the disdainfully deceitful Nute Gingrich. Not since Mort Sahl have I enjoyed such political humor
in reporting the truth of our day. Highly recommended.
