Rating: Summary: Very funny, but also stale at times Review: This book is incredibly funny. But as you start reading and start to pick up on Franken's style of humor, some of the humor becomes predictable. But nontheless, this book is worth the buy.
Rating: Summary: A Must Buy! Review: An excellent book. The right wingers, through their mouthpiece (they would never admit to that), the fat, cigar smokin' boob laid the ground rules of modern political debate, there are none. Once they get a little of their own medicine they flip out big time. Newt and the boys love to talk about Bill and his affairs, yet they never mention that Mr. President has never been divorced. Newtie (Mr. Cancer) and Bob (Viagra-King) Dole can't say that. The right and religious conservatives take so much of our time to tell us how we should live morally they don't seem to care about their moral failings. Al simply reminds them in a wonderful and funny book.
Rating: Summary: Smart and funny Review: This book had me laughing out loud from the first page. Jean Kirkpatrick's review of this book was much funnier than I sure she meant it to be.Al Franken is educated, well informed, and has an extremely sharp wit. One of the funniest chapters in the book is his "conversation" with Limbaugh. Then there's "Operation Chickenhawk". My son, who is 16, and I fought about whose turn it was to read this very funny book. The down side was he like Clinton a little too much. I also voted for the man, but I certainly don't think he's the greatest president of this century. That aside, I would recommed anyone with a sense of humor buy this book.
Rating: Summary: Funny and Informative - Prepare to Bust a Gut and Learn Review: Funny and informative. Al Franken is a man only a progressive could love ... sort of like how Rush Limbaugh is a man only a regressive could love. Franken strikes a nice balance between providing humor and information. And don't let Franken's levity fool you because he does insert useful arguments, facts, and figures between his jabs at Rush and other right-wingers. Definitely guaranteed to @*** #@! the Rush crowd. But hey, who cares? Franken does for progressives what Limbaugh has done for conservatives, except Franken doesn't invent facts or rely on emotionalism to persuade his reader. A must read for those left of right!
Rating: Summary: Al shows that all politicians stick to their guns... Review: Even when Rush Limbaugh is wrong, saying idiotic things or being plain mean he is only doing it for attention. At least, that is what I thought until I read this book. Al Franken has opened my eyes to show me that skewered statistics don't make a man stupid...it makes the people stupid for following such a dolt. If you liked Al on Saturday Night Live, you will enjoy this book.
Rating: Summary: It's Entertainment, Folks Review: What people do not understand is that Rush Limbaugh, Al Franken, et al, are first and foremost entertainers. Their job is to entertain, not to have a serious debate about the issues. Both Rush and Al pick and choose which facts to back up their views. Both take things out of context. Both propose simple solutions to complex problems. This book, like Rush's, are for people who want entertainment, not a serious discussion of the issues.
Rating: Summary: Lots of childish name-calling but still lots of fun Review: As you can probably guess from the title, Rush Limbaugh is fat. Franken certainly drives this point into the ground, but his Republican-bashing is really pretty hilarious. They all deserve it a lot of the time anyway.
Rating: Summary: Very Funny Book . . . Angry, Yet to the Point. Review: RUSH LIMBAUGH IS A BIG FAT IDIOT And other Observations, by Al Franken is probably the funniest book I had the pleasure to read. Franken, was very accurate and funny as he described the pathetic slob also known as Rush Limbaugh. Franken was also very quick to point out the hypocrisy that which the Republicans seemed to have built their political foundation on. My favorite jokes were: "Having Al D'Amato lead an ethics investigation is like asking Bob Dornan to head up a mental health task force." "We are now living in an era where the wall between news and entertainment has been eaten away like the cartilage in David Crosby's septum." Over-all it's a ridiculously funny book, I even recomend buying the audio version so you can hear Al read it the way it is supossed to be read.
Rating: Summary: It Serves its purpose Review: If you're one of those obnoxious conservatives who can't see outside the political game, you'll hate it. If you're a liberal of the same tendencies, you'll love it. I didn't particularly care for the Clinton-worship, but I think this book serves as an appropriate foil for any of Limbaugh's stuff. It set out to make fun of Limbaugh--his tendencies, his selective research, his self-worship. Whether Franken emulated him so closely on purpose or not, it made for a good laugh now and again. All in all, I think it's perfect toilet reading. Isn't that the best compliment of all?
Rating: Summary: Rush Limbaugh and Al Franken - - Can you tell them apart? Review: Al Franken's politics aren't the problem with the book (although his near hero-worship of the Clintons is). And I'm not fond of Rush Limbaugh, either. What struck me, though, is how much Franken and Limbaugh, whatever the differences of opinion or waistline, resemble each other. They are both clever, snotty little kids, lovers of selective research (use only the statistics that favor your side), and firm holders of the belief that anyone who disagrees with them is so evil and so beyond the pale that any name called, any aspersion cast on character, is justified. Whether Franken has so much contempt for his fans that he would call them "ditto heads," I don't know. But if it is unseemly of much-married conservatives to criticize the distintegration of the family (and it is), then it is also unseemly for someone who shares the talk-radio smartass mentality to criticize it.
