Summary: #20 is Dumb & Dumber
Review: The Onion will be a fine resource for film producers known for "vacation" sequels, which their sub-marginal reviewers in the a.v. section will appreciate. The audio version will be useful to the late 40's trying to keep up with MTV advertising banners at the website. The #20 bestseller just could turn out to be the DUMBEST thing this century.

Summary: Pythonesque
Review: This is one of the funniest books I've read in years! There is so much great stuff here - if you like to laugh, think, question how our media presents things or just get stupid, you'll love this book. Highest recommendation!

Summary: Sophomoric
Review: The Onion's fraternity boy humor might be appealing to readers of Bret Easton Ellis trying to be in good odor with campus cafe fad followers, but they're pretentious attempt at literary style fails miserably.

Summary: Funniest Book Ever
Review: This book is filled with non-stop laughs. For anyone with a knowledge of history and a sense of humor, this book is well worth the price.

YOU MUST BUY IT!!!!!

Summary: Too much missing
Review: As an avid Onion reader during my undergrad years at UW-Madison, I have become fond of the Onion's sarcastic humor. Unfortunately, "Our Dumb Century" leaves many funny aspects of the Onion out. There were many incredibly funny "Ask a..." advice columns that should have been reprinted. Also, the "What do you think" question and answer box was always my favorite part of the paper. Don't get me wrong, the book "Our Dumb Century" is hilarious. However, I don't feel like I was getting the whole "Onion experience" by simply reading the cover pages.

Summary: UW Professor Proves Universe Does Not Exist
Review: I remember my first Onion experience. I was riding to work in a Madison, Wisconsin city bus. A man a few seats ahead of me was reading a newspaper called The Onion, and I could easily make out the headline: "UW Professor Proves Universe Does Not Exist." I thought, "Sure, in some higher-mathematical, hyper-physical way or other that the layman can pretty much dismiss." Then I thought, "But just for the sake of argument, let's assume the universe does not exist. What follows?" It was one of those days in which the sun keeps intermittently hiding under clouds then peeking out. I couldn't think what follows, but the rest of the afternoon took on for me a very peculiar character, and I've been an Onion fan ever since. All this is to say I recommend the book. I also recommend PENTATONIC SCALES FOR THE JAZZ-ROCK KEYBOARDIST by Jeff Burns--but that's another story.

Summary: "Our Dumb Century" proves to be quite smart (and funny)
Review: I recently cashed out the money for "Our Dumb Century" as my friend stood beside me asking, "Why did you buy such a big piece of trash?" I replied, "Are you crazy? This is The Onion." I felt some sort of admiration for the editors at The Onion since they could put together such a fantastically laugh riot. It would take a great deal of time to read it all, but hell, I have plenty of toilet paper to keep myself occupied! I especially love the headlines & articles, "HOLY SHIT - MAN WALKS ON FUCKING MOON," "Pentagon Develops A-Bomb-Resistant Desk," "AWESOME! NATION WOWED BY TREMENDOUS HINDENBURG EXPLOSION," "New President Feels Nation's Pain, Brests," and "MIT Scientists Have Three Sides of Rubik's Cube Complete," but I have already said too much. "Our Dumb Century" does not deserve to be overlooked and DOES deserve to be read by many for those who have a hard time trying to get a laugh here and there. "Our Dumb Century" is great at court trials, therapy sessions, and Thanksgiving Dinners at Uncle Joe's Chicken Farm.

Summary: Positively hilarious!
Review: In true Onion form, this book takes actual events and reports them with an incredibly funny twist. I am a regular reader of The Onion website, and the first publication from 136 year old Herman T. Zweibel truly does it justice.

There is just one small problem, however... the print is rather difficult to read. I have never seen an entire newspaper page crammed on to a single page of a novel before. If not for this, it would have certainly received 5 stars.

Summary: This book is 'pee-in-your-pants' funny!
Review: I can't stop laughing! Tears roll down my face as I read this book. I started laughing when I opened the book, and never stopped.

Summary: Hilarious! Had me gasping for breath
Review: "Our Dumb Century" is a treasure-trove of laughs. I was crying and gasping for breath after reading only the introduction! It reminded me of that scene in "Mary Poppins," where they laugh so hard they float to the ceiling. A much-needed break from all the Y2K gloom-and-doom and fusty 19th-century historical programs.
