Rating: Summary: Brilliant! Review: The story is great, and funny, but the best thing about the book i must say is the wonderful illustrations by Brian Froud! He's a magician with his paintbrushes and pens! What i really wonder though, is the story true? I think this is a great book for any ages! And also, a great big plus is the cool window "sticker" you get with the book, great!
Rating: Summary: Enchanting and Imaginative, and I now Have One! Review: I just received a copy of this book after quite a search -- cost me $100 to get one! It's worth every penny -- I also have Quentin Cottington's Journal -- get it soon -- I think it will be going out of print, too.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Mesmerizing!! Beautifully illustrated. Hysterica Review: Na!Na! I got it! I got It! After a desperate search, I found this book and received it yesterday. I was so excited! And I love it! Fabulously creative and beautifully illustrated! I will treasure it always. Love to find Calendars as well.
Rating: Summary: witty, entertaining, engaging, subtle, verrrry funny Review: The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. What appears to be a picture book turns out to be a witty, entertaining view of the life of Lady Cottington through handwritten diary entries that begin in childhood, when she "presses" her first fairy. The reader follows her life, as she slaps the pages shut on unwitting fairies, pressing them forever between the pages of her pressed fairy book (originally intended for pressing flowers). The authors, in a footnote, assure us that the squished fairies are only psychic impressions, since fairies cannot be killed. At the end of this two-hour, entertaining read, it is clear that Lady Cottington's 103 years have more meaning than pictures of flattened fairies and a lifetime of refusing vulgar suitors. A subtle picture of an interesting woman has been drawn, and many re-readings will be necessary to find the nuances. The book has the appearance of a coffee-table book, the illustrations of a fine picture book, and much! more subtlety of meaning than such a book ought to have.
Rating: Summary: I have been searching for this for years... Review: For 1997 & 1998, I bought the most beautiful Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy calendars. I have been searching for this book for ever (it seams). Only to find out that it is no longer in print. It is a wonderful story with beautiful illustrations. Just like everyone else, I am hoping it comes back into print. I would pay anything to have this book!
Rating: Summary: Magical!!! Review: I came across this book in a small store in Northern Mich. a few years ago, but did not have the money to purchase it. Now it is out of print... If anyone knows how I might obtain a copy.. please email me! I would LOVE a copy!!
Rating: Summary: First entire book I've read in over ten years, or wanted to Review: Surely the Illustrator of this book has gone on to do other things. If anyone knows of anything he has done, please contact me. I have only heard of the calendar and have not been able to acquire one. I don't think it's out of print, but I have been unable to get anyone to search or inquire on sales, because it's now out of season. Does anyone know if it will possibly reprint for 1999? It's been a long time since I've taken the time to actually sit down and read an entire book. This book actually seems to take you into the Wonderful World of Fairies and a child's eye-view of imagination and belief. Perfect for "almost" any age. Could this possibly have been published by THE Ted Turner of TBS? I'm sure if he knew how many people want to buy this book, he would be more than willing to republish it. Now, if we could just get in touch with Ted ...
Rating: Summary: A great book which needs to be reprinted Review: I really regret giving this book to an ex-girlfriend. It was so wonderfully writen and the illustrations were awesome. I only wish they would reprint it so I can buy it again.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely, positively the most wonderful book, EVER! Review: I read this book while standing in a B.Dalton in Florida, during my many travels, a few years back. I was broke and didn't know at the time that I should have never left the store without the book. I have never forgotten it and look for it everywhere. I was sooooo disappointed to find out that the book is no longer in print. I was told by a bookstore owner that Turner went out of business but that he thinks another company will buy the rights to this book. He said it is too popular to not be reprinted. I hope, along with many others, that he is right. This book should be remembered and reprinted. I would like to share it with my children someday.
Rating: Summary: hee, hee...how delightful!! Review: I found this in a not-so-great bookstore, laughed my head off and did not buy it. I am still kicking myself over that. This little girl is one after my own heart, as she scribbles "So there!" to her disbelieving mother and nanny in the margin after catching her first fairy. I'm so glad to hear about the calendar, and I do wish they'd put this back in print, because I never did see the sealed section (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)
