Summary: A well-done portfolio/book Rankin/Bass fans will love!!
Review: A well deserved tribute to Arthur Rankin and Jules Bass! Great content, fabulous photos and a terrific look at one of the most brilliant production teams in the history of 20th century entertainment! An outstanding job by author Rick Goldschmidt!!

Summary: UNEVENLY RESEARCHED
Review: All I can say is that it's a shame that the great Rankin & Bass cartoons do not receive a more fitting treatment than in this thinly researched book. Okay, perhaps "uneven" better describes it than "thin." Missing is any in-depth look at how the specials were created and at the lives of those involved in the projects. My hat's off to Mr. Goldschmidt for his effort, for no one else has stepped forward to tackle the job. Clearly, it's easier for us (meaning everyone but the author) to be critical than to duplicate and improve upon his effort. One can only hope that a more "behind-the-scenes" approach may be achieved in some future book. What I'm wondering is why Mr Goldschmidt could not obtain the rights to photograph the stop-action models used in this "claymation" or "animagic" animation. He has interviewed a number of people. Why couldn't he get permission to show these things we all want to see? Anyway, I'm glad to have a copy of this book as a reference source, but I think it falls far short of expectations of many Rankin & Bass fans.

The color shots of MAD MONSTER PARTY are crystal clear and I have never seen these before. There is even a beautiful color piece of art from noted BATMAN ANIMATED artist Bruce Timm! Summary: An absolute dissapointment.
Review: Having been one of Rankin Bass biggest fans, I looked forward to reading more about behind the scenes and technical info. How dismayed I was to find that the bulk of this book is no more than plot synopsis of each of the R\B shows. tell me how there is no behind the scenes photos of a set piece to show the size of the actual figures used. I remember as a child going on a tour of the NBC studios, and seeing the figures from rudolph in a glass case. I was surprised @ the size of the abominable snow monster. I was hoping for seeing more of this type of thing. There is one picture of somebody holding donner, and thats it. we`ve seen these shows countless times, we know the story backwards..yet story synopsis takes up 99% of this book. the photos are very small, mostly black & white. It is obvious that the author is a novice, shame on him & shame on me for spending $ on this amateurish attempt of writing about a company (Rankin Bass) who deserves better treat ment than this.

Summary: FINALLY!
Review: Hey boys & girls of all ages!Rick Goldschmidt has written a book that I've been waiting for since I was a young boy! I grew up with the classic R/B TV specials, & of course one of my FAVORITE movies; Mad Monster Party! This book is a dream come true. It is informative, with many GREAT photo's! It's an exhaustive overview of R/B's history. Rick's love for R/B clearly shines through in this project. Hats off to Rick & Tiger Mt. press for being smart & brave enough to publish this book when no one else tried! Anyone whose enjoyed the R/B shows will enjoy this book just as much, as they recall favorite childhood memories! Thanks Mr. Goldschmidt! Here's to hoping your next book pushes the R/B envelope a little further! I look forward to it's being published in the not too distant future.

Summary: Enchanted World Rankin/Bass just that Enchanted
Review: How can anyone not buy this book,I will buy it today, but even without it Rankin Bass has given us all great memories of such classics as Rudolph and Frosty and there characters still live on today through many promotions such as the new beanies that are out.Rick Goldschmidt should be commended greatly for letting everyone enjoy once more the magic that is Rankin/Bass.The only shame is the company that now owns the various products Rudolph,Frosty and others did not leave the Rankin Bass ending logos at the end of the video when they reproduced them on video and dvd.5 stars go out To Rick and Tiger Mountain Press for keeping an old standby Ranking Bass in our memories and thoughts.ScottDenny

Summary: This book is ENCHANTING beyond belief
Review: I actually bought 3 hardcovers and several softcovers of this wonderful book! I was amazed at the care that was taken with the wonderful layout and the beautiful color photographs. This is the ultimate reference guide for any RANKIN/BASS fan since it contains all of the credits and airdates for each and every special, film and series R/B produced, many I never knew about until I cracked this book open. This book was long overdue and Rick Goldschmidt delivered in a HUGE way! It amazes me to no end to read the reviews here tinged with a bit of poison. It is clearly stated that this is "A Portfolio" of all the GREAT R/B shows BUT some seem to expect a "Making of" book? Believe me, peoples' eyes bug out when they see this book and relive their childhood memories that are completely contained in this wonderful tribute! BRAVO!!!
