Rating: Summary: Gathering ones Childhood in one place! Review: Its amazing with all the subjects that have enjoyed renewed popularity these days that its taken so long for this book to come around. There was a time when you could not have a Holiday with out Rankin Bass. Now finally you can relive all that history in one place. I don't even remember that many pictures being printed of this stuff when I was young. Unless it was in TV guide. It was shear pleasure going through the pages of this book. I real time machine. I am sure every fan will enjoy it!!!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely no Christmas in July ... Review: Pictures and plot summaries aplenty, but very little history, far less insight and absolutely no Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July. How can one possibly forget Ethel Merman in a cowgirl outfit riding an ostrich in a (literally) flying circus?
Rating: Summary: What a wonderful look back to the past! Review: Rick Goldschmidt captured my memories from childhood and put them in a book! Even as an adult, I Still love watching Rudolph and Frosty! This book gives a synopsis of all the Rankin/Bass shows and fills in many of the blanks. Thanks Rick, for a wonderful book. I truly enjoyed reading it.
Rating: Summary: Great Bouncing Icebergs! Review: Rick Goldschmidt has done an UTTERLY SUPERB job in creating his incandescently splendid book, "The Enchanted World of Rankin/Bass!" Not only is it a unique goldmine of information about the studio and its magnificent writers and artists and musicians, it is also the single most gloriously illustrated book I have EVER seen! I've had the book for two years, and every time I look at it, I'm STILL bowled over by the incomparable beauty of the photographs depicting the various films made by Rankin/Bass. The gorgeous quality of the photographic reproductions is UNMATCHED by any other book I've EVER seen! (How'd you do it, Rick?!?) In sum, this book is bright, brilliant, effulgent, lambent, luminous, lustrous, refulgent, shiny, bewitching, charming, enthrallong, entrancing, spellbinding, fascinating, lovely, delightful, coruscating, gleaming, glimmering, glinting, glistening, glittering, scintillating, shimmering, twinkling, winkling, peppy, pert, spirited, sparkling, resplendent, sumptuous, ebullient, exuberant, joyous, and marvelous! BRAVO!!!

Rating: Summary: The first such attention devoted to Rankin/Bass. Review: The author is to be commended on his devotion to one of the most prominent cultural presences of the last 30 years. Because this book is the first of its kind, it is possible to look past the fact that the bulk of the text is thorough and careful plot summary. My guess is that most readers are aware of the plots; and, to those readers whom may not be able to place a plot with a title, for example, a smaller amount of plot summary would suffice. The most interesting moments in the book occur when the author is able to quote members of the relatively-constant group responsible for the productions, including Rankin and Bass. The small photo of the Donner model is a joy. Especially due to the stop-motion animation that comprises much of the Rankin/Bass product, I would have loved to have seen more of the models, the sets, and perhaps scenes from the animating process. I appreciate that Japanese production may make such photos difficult to obtain. Perhaps more pre-production artwork? The author states that the models are in the private collections of Rankin and Bass. Those models which are would make excellent resources for more photographs. Few of the original Rudolph models are still owned by Rankin or Bass. The original Rudolph is owned by a collector overseas. Even though it has wires where its nose used to be, it would be breathtaking to see photographs of Rankin/Bass'es biggest star. To imagine a larger, glossier future treatment of the Rankin/Bass catalog is both easy and delightful. I am grateful to Mr. Goldschmidt for this terrific first step. I will anxiously await the future treatments of Rankin/Bass that I hope he offers.
Rating: Summary: Nostalgia at it's Finest! Review: The only book I've ever come across on the subject of Rankin-Bass Productions and a great piece of nostalgia, more for adults who grew up with this stuff -- and let's face it, if you grew up in the 70's or 80's you watched these specials -- than for kids. Great behind the scenes info, drawings, etc. My only complaint is a one-page summary of "Jack Frost" and under-rated and in my opinion the best of the holiday specials. A sadly sweet story that deserves more recognition. Would love to hear from other fans of Rankin/Bass.
Rating: Summary: He'll go down in History! Review: The Rankin/Bass animagic Holiday specials are as much a part of my childhood memories as putting up the tree, hanging the stockings and painting the eggs. It is nice to see Rick Goldschmidt drag them from the foggy haze of my nostalgia and bring them back into the light. I never new that there was so much information on Arthur Rankin and Jules Bass. "The Enchanted World of Rankin/Bass" has it all, from the most obscure cel animated cartoon to the classic animagic of Rudolph and Santa. Everything you could want is here: Behind the scenes photographs, a complete list of Rankin/Bass works, well-written articles and a jumble of Rankin/Bass memorabilia. This book is even more relevant, now that the Rankin/Bass filmography is being released on DVD. It will make you chomp at the bit for each new release. If Peter Cottontail, The Snow Miser and Heat Miser, Frosty the Snowman and Happy the Christmas Baby ("those ears!") ring any bells for you, then you will enjoy "The Enchanted World of Rankin/Bass."
