Summary: And Justice For Cliff..
Review: "...And Justice for All" is yet another Metallica classic, #3 on my list. The songs, like the album titled song "...And Justice for All" and "One," are about how messed up our society is. A very powerful album with much heavy sound and anger coming from James. And yet some people complain about each songs' length. If you don't like it, you're not a Metallica fan. It may have a thin sound, but once you listen more to each song, you realize that it's just as heavy and hard sounding as their previous albums. And with the tragic loss of Cliff Burton, these guys showed that they can still kick ass and this album shows.

Summary: Good Music, Bad Production
Review: The music is superb. If it had been as masterfully mixed as Ride The Lightning or Master Of Puppets, this would have been a five-star album. But, unfortunatly, the production is atrocious. There is no bass whatsoever on the album, the guitars sound thin, and Lars Ulrich's drums have this irritating clicky sound that can get on your nerves. Oh yeah, James' voice. On the previous 3 albums James had a nice voice, but on this, it's just bad. But the songs are great. Blackened kicks the album off with a tale of the destruction of the world. Then comes the nine-minute-plus title track, with its tale of corruption and greed in the government. Eye of the Beholder, which comes next, is the best song on the album. The semi-ballad, One, was Metallica's first ever Top 40 hit, and the band's first ever music video. The music goes slightly downhill after that, but don't worry, the songs are still great. The album ends with the powerful, headbanging tale of James Hetfield's childhood, Dyer's Eve. Dyer's Eve is probably the next to best song on the album, after Eye Of The Beholder. This would probably be a thrash metal classic if it weren't for the production quality. But it can still wallop ya good.

Summary: Burton didn't mean the end of Metallica
Review: To produce such an amazing album after the death of much loved bassist,Cliff Burton is nothing short of extraordinary. The riffs, solos & Drums in ...And Justice For All are worthy of my 5 stars. Blackened is an amazing opener, Fast paced and brutal. One is an epic song which unfortunatly came after Burton but features a solo which is magnificent. ( At this point I have to mention that I couldnt be bothered with filling in reviews on the other songs but take my word for it, they are great). The last song on the album, Dyers Eve is ... it leaves me lost for words. An unofficial showcase for the bands talents, Dyers Eve features fast & catchy riffing, An amazing Guitar solo, great lyrics and manic drums. In fact Lars Ulrich is unable to play this song anymore because it is so diffucult. For anyone who wishes to experience metal & Metallica buy this album, In fact its so good if you write to me I will give you a grant!
So please fo Metals sake Get this, Thank you.

Summary: Brutal, Uncompromising...and an amazing piece of art
Review: Metallica has produced some of the best music of the last twenty years {"...And Justice", "Master of Puppets"} and some of the worst {last year's "St. Anger."} The one that has always stood out for me, and I believe is a masterpiece, is "...And Justice For All".
This album is brutal and uncompromising, but it does have moments if pure inspired beauty. The opening to the entire album sets the stage for an amazing piece of work. Every song is fantastic, but the standouts are "Blackened", "One" "Dyer's Eve" and "To Live is to Die" an {almost} instrumental that is amazing, and there is one moment in the middle of the song that can almost bring you to tears. If you listen, really listen to this album, you'll get sucked in to the complexities and amazing musicianship of it all. This album is an experience. At first listen it may seen a little overwhelming, and maybe even bland, but after a few listens you will probably grasp it better and have a better appreciation for it.
By far the best song on the album is "One", an amazing song both lyrically and musically, another example of music on this album that can stir the emotions {the acoustic beginning is stunning, and there is no other word for it.}
If you are new to Metallica, this is a great place to start, but please keep in mind that there are significant differences in most of the albums. "Kill 'Em All" and "Ride the Lightning" are more raw than the later efforts, "Master of Puppets" and "Justice" are heavy and complex, "Metallica" is the start of their "new" sound that cotinued through the nineties, slower, but still heavy and pretty complex, "Load" and "Reload" are both mixed bags- they still sound like Metallica, but are very different from their other releases, and are average at best. Then there are the next two releases, not albums of new material, but still pretty good nonetheless, the cover song album "Garage Inc." {a mixed bag as well} and the live with a symphony "S&M". I would recommend you start with a studio album or two first before you delve into those. Ah...and then there's the newest, "St. Anger." Just my opinion here- but I believe that album is almost completly unredeemable, so be warned, if you want that one, try previewing it first to see if it's your thing.

Summary: Metallica's best? no!
Review: Metallica have done better than this album.. yes there are great songs on this album like "one" and "Harvester of Sorrow". this album was poorly done as for the fact that they just had gotten Jason as the replacement bass player. metallica even said that this album could have been done better. the bass was really lacking as metallica didnt know Jason was to be permanent. I personally think Jason now-a-days can rot in hell for leaving metallica.. he was an awesome bass player. and to think he can hang with Ozzy...pppppffffff... Jason cannot and wont ever be able to hang with the immortal Ozzy!!! jason was metallica and forever will be metallica! yes for those who are wondering I like Cliff way better! cliff is one of the best bass players ever! Jason was great live! he had energy and drive that made metallica what they are today. yes metallica lost there huge drive and f*ck you up metal when cliff died but jason gave them another edge to there music which possibly made metallica better! those of you true metallica fans will hang on to those classic albums like "kill em' all", "Ride the Lightning", "Master of Puppets", and "the black album or Metallica". those albums were done with power and grace. metallica really knew where they were goin with those albums! Metallica today is great with the new bass player, Rob Trujillo! now Rob can hang with metallica and a great choice!

Summary: The best metal album- ever.
Review: From the slow, lamentful drumbeats that introduce "One" to the crashing anger of "Harvester of Sorrow" this album showcases the most innovative metal band of all time at their best. The album starts out with the relatively tame "Blackened" which, although the lyrics are strong, feels too long and could have more interesting guitars. My personal favorite is "One" not so much because of the music, although it's the usual high quality Metallica stuff, but rather because it perfectly encapsulates everything that an album with the name "...And Justice For All" should.

Summary: Best Metal Record Ever - Period
Review: And if you disagree with me..that's okay. But you're wrong. But seriously, I find it quite odd that me, a bassist, would feel that this is even the best Metallica record ever, let alone the best metal record. This is the first post-Cliff Burton Metallica effort, and new bassist Jason Newsted can't be heard anywhere on it. But the wierd thing is, everything fits together on this album so well, you don't miss it at all. "Blackened," a classic Metallica thrasher, opens the record and immediately commands your full attention. "One," the band's first single and video, might have become their signature song had the band not taken a radically different direction on later albums. The massive length of the songs, coupled with the listener's total lack of desire to hit the skip button, says a lot about the songwriting skills of these guys. The music of "....And Justice For All" is more closely related to classical pieces than standard heavy metal. And though a lot of people bemoan the unorthodox sound of this record, I think that it works beautifully for these songs. I can't very well place this one above "Master Of Puppets," but given a choice, "Justice" will always be the one I put in my changer.

Summary: the last good metallica record
Review: Yeah, I was a metallica fan. This record epitomized what Metallica did back in the day when they were a thrash metal band before they turned into another alternative act.
These songs are pure metal, but yet they have a very infectious dose of melodies upon them. They are not as driving and hardcore and raw as the previous records, yet none the less they are heavy, they are still metal, and if it wasn't for the horrid digital production, just as good as any other Metallica record before.
So, here is where the problem comes in, the production is waaaaay too thin. There is no RAWNESS what so ever. THere is no thickness or "mid" tones on the album. The bass drums ticks, the bass is non existant, the guitars are, dare to say, weak in a Metal album basis.
Yet, why of the five stars if this album posseses so many flaws? the songwriting of this record might be the best ever done by Metallica. From the backwards recorded intro of "Blackened" to the dead on end of "Dyers Eve" this record is packed with amazing riffs, beats, the best lyrics Metallica ever wrote, James Hetfield best voice ever, and the most amazing solos this band has ever played.
Indeed, as a guitar player and as a metal fan, this record, produced differently would, without a doubt, be the best metal album ever. Brutal as in "The Shortest Straw" and fast as in "To Live is to die" to Melodic as in "One" or amazing as on "To Live Is To Die" this record could have epitomized Thrash Metal itself...
Highlights: Blackened, One, Dyers Eve, To Live Is To Die
Lows: OVERPRODUCED (too clean, no rawness).

Summary: Metallica's best work since Ride The Lightning
Review: After the death of Cliff Burton, new replacement Jason Newsted steps in, and does a fine job. James' voice is better than ever, sounds better than the past. Lars drums sound better than the past, and Kirk takes it to the next level. This album moves from the messages of death to the anti-justice system of America. The definate highlights of "Justice" are Blackened, One and The Shortest Straw. The only song that may seem a little repetitive is The Frayed Ends Of Sanity. Eye Of The Beholder is actually one of the middle songs, like Harverster Of Sorrow. The title-track is the main song for this thing, of course.

Here's the songs, again:

1)Blackened(6:41): The best of the three openers (Fight Fire With Fire, Battery, Blackened). The only song that Jason co-wrote. C'mon guys, give Jason a little more chance than that. Anyway, Blackened has the best riff, and is the 2nd fastest song on the CD, next to Dyers Eve. The lyrics are beyond amazing, the guitars are better than ever, making the tempo changes better. Blackened is my 3rd favourite song on the album. 5/5

2)...And Justice For All(9:45): Another good title-track, not as good as Master Of Puppets, but it still kicks ass. The best song to describe the anti-justice system. The only problem is, it's too long, it's 9 and 3 quarter minutes. But the lyrics are cool. The instruments play their part good here, but not as well as Blackened. 5/5

3)Eye Of The Beholder(6:25): In the middle type of song. It's in the good music category of this album. Very good song, better than The Thing That Should Not Be from "Puppetz". It's not good enough for Metallica's top 20, but it's a damn good songs, the highlight of this song would be the lyrics here. 4/5

4)One(7:23): Now, I'm impressed by this song, their first(EVER) single, and the first song they did a music video for, it's a cool song. The fast guitars at the end are very awesome, but it's also a melodic song, more melodic than Sanitarium, but can't beat Fade To Black in that game. Still, the band put a lot of effort into One. My favourite song from "Justice". 6/5

5)The Shortest Straw(6:35): 2nd best song on the album. The guitar work is phenominal, and you can't imagine how good the drums were played. "In Vertigo you'll be" That line from the song is a little confusing, but I like it. Nice job on The Shortest Straw. 5/5

6)Harvester Of Sorrow(5:45): A very good song, but not a personal favourite. It beats The Frayed Ends Of Sanity, but that's it. Eye Of The Beholder is better. But still, Harvester is better than most things from Master Of Puppets, like The Thing That Should Not Be, Leper Messiah and Damage Inc. Oh well, it's cool. 4/5

7)The Frayed Ends Of Sanity(7:40): Unfortunately, my least favourite on the album. Still a little good, I mean, it's just too long and repetitive. On a bright note, it's better than Escape and Leper Messiah. Frayed Ends just doesn't fit me. 3/5

8)To Live Is To Die(9:48): Nice to have something with Cliff in "Justice". This beats Orion and ties with The Call Of Ktulu. Well, it might not be an instrumental, because Cliff actually says some words somewhere near the very end, but still, it has the potential of being an instrumental. And halfway through (4:28-6:47), is the saddest point of the song. So awesome. 5/5

And we come to the closer:

9)Dyers Eve(5:12): Shortest song on the album, and a good one at that. Never disappoints. The fastest song on the album, surpassing Blackened. Pretty cool for the shortest song, even at 5:12. About your parents giving you grief. Essential to listen to when you're parents are putting you down. It's a legendary song. 4.5/5

And that's "Justice" for you, pick up this and "Lightning" as well, the 2 best Metallica albums. Buy NOW!

Summary: The Hammer Of Justice Cruches You - Overpowered
Review: This is one of Metallica's best albums and it's the first one with Jason Newsted. It's probably the band's longest record but still entertaining and heavy to say the least. Your still have those awesome killer riffs, musicianship, dynamics, solos, accustic passages and magic moments that every Metallica records has but it's always something along these lines but never anything boring. Every song is different and has it's own identity and this is the chemistry with any music Metallica makes. This album in particular is no different and it delievers like all Metallica records. Every song here is amazing, mind blowing and unforgettable. Some of the best songs are Blackened, ...And Justice For All, One, The Shortest Straw, Harvester Of Sorrow, To Live Is To Die and Dyers' Eve. Get it and get smashed by the hammer of justice.
