Rating: Summary: This has been and always will be #1 Review: Metallica is hands down the best metal band of all time and Justice is their best album. This album defines perfection. Every song is amazing. Especially One, Harvester of Sorrow, and my favorite Dyers Eve. If for some awful reason you don't have this album, GO GET IT right away. Dont skip over any tracks because they are all amazing. In my opinion, this is Metallica's Masterpiece. NOT the Black album!
Rating: Summary: bad production aside, this one is simply the best Review: First of all, the album in all honesty doesn't have the best production. However it has some of the best songs of all time on it. If you can look past the bad production, then you begin to realize what this album has to offer. The more I listened to this album, the more it grew on me until the point where it became my favorite album of all time. All the songs have strenghs that help them stay in your mind. This is Metallica writing music at their best.
Rating: Summary: A Metallica classic!! Review: This is great! Here are my song ratings:Blackened: A great song with very good lyrics and a good beat. Eye of the Beholder: A great song! The beginning where it's soft and gets louder edvery second isn't neccesary. One: Good song. The only part that isn't neccesary is the long solo at the end. Harvester of Sorrow: Great! A long song but it's worth listening though! The Frayed Ends of Sanity: I didn't like this one because of the terrible lyrics. Dyer's Eve: A great story like song! To Live Is To Die: A great steady song! Shortest Straw: I good song but the title doesn't make much sense.
Rating: Summary: but you're not gonna like it.... Review: i've given this cd 4 stars, mainly because i can appreciate the turmoil metallica must have been in, due to Cliff Burton's death (hence the raw anger purveyed on much of this cd, and the underemployed bass), and i have read the lyrics, so i know it is not a case of teen angst at all, but about abuse of power. this doesn't make it a "great" album though. there are few discernible tunes here, as thrash meets prog wth some very awkward, mixed results. this is the sort of thing Tool do so well, taking a song and twisting it, with clever tempo changes and reliance on loud/soft, overlapping textures. but these guys aren't half as subtle.hetfield, as a vocalist, roars a lot. he's angry. we get it. but this doesn't make for great listening. Ride the lightning and master of puppets will be looked back on as classics and rightly so. they were powerful but melodic, with simple structures put together with one or two solos to create epic music- EVERYTHING FITTED. Here everything does not fit. Ulrich sounds troubled when doing anything other than keeping a straight beat, and hetfield's vocals are not versatile enough. this sounds like a band in decay, since the speed is there, but is without the adrenaline. this is a robotic album, dry, harsh, and though compelling, groundbreaking at the time, it is not earcandy. yet it is still a great album, and i can't put my finger on why. it is one of metallica's darker albums (the rest are hardly britney!) and the overbearing mood of doom is brought through in both the lyrics and the music, which balance the epic subject matter. never has such a bleak world view been put to such fitting style of music- cold, dry, emotionless and destructive A more complicated topic, so more complicated music? possibly. the album takes you to places in your mind's recesses, where it is uncomfortable to go, but the experience makes me feel stronger each listen- you can definitely sit through this album on one sitting if you have an attention span. from the speedy Blackened, through One, Harvester of Sorrow and other \underrated gems, this album is at least consistent, and i for one love it. but those who don't "get it" are gonna be scratching their heads- there's no "Enter Sandman" here. thank god metallica lightened up a bit after this, because they'd backed themselves into a corner here. you can only snarl and look hard for so long. which perhaps sums up the album- a band in need of change, going slightly stale, but still serving up great songs, as they are on a different plane to other metal bands. puts Slipknot to shame in the anger stakes- hetfield doesn't need to screal either. Get it.
Rating: Summary: ...And Another Masterpiece Review: Metallica, the greatest heavy metal band of all time, writes their 4th album thats is like all their others, A CLASSIC. This is definately Metallica's most structured album of all time. Songs like "...And Justice For All, and "One" show true talent in Metallica's capability as song writers. Although the songs in this album are just a bit slower than the previous albums, you know that Metallica was very picky about what they put on this album. Many people think that this is their last descent album, and others say that it is the beginning of a bad era for Metallica's music, but for me, this is just another album that im proud of owning and listening too. If you are a die-hard Metallica fan, such as me, or a guitarist, such as me, buy this album, or you will regret that you didnt.
Rating: Summary: Solid Review: The last few years have not been too kind to the general public in the department of Metal- what with mindless drivel like Limp Bizkit and Slipknot and whatnot- all this nu-metal is quite a bitter pill for an oldschool Metalhead such as myself to swallow- as a result I've going back for those essential albums I may have missed along the way. And Justice for All is one of them. This is Metallica at their finest- Ride the Lightning is probably my favorite, but this album is definetly their crowning achievement in several respects- First- Lars Ulrich has never played with this level of intensity- he's not a great drummer- never has been- but on this album he keeps me interested- not a great smattering of technique- but an amazing amount of pure unbridled aggression- and a very welcome emphasis on his bass kick (something I don't think of a great deal when Lars comes to mind). Hetfield is in his element here- spouting venom against courts, parents, government and soforth- Kirk Hammett exercises a bit of restraint and it shows- while I love the earlier albums occasionally Kirk gets a little masturbatory with his solos, no problem here however. Which brings us to the weak point- the bass. I'd love to vividly examine it, but where is it? Newstead is no Cliff Burton (RIP) , but he still aint half bad. Occasionally I hear a little bass plowing through the music, but you really gotta look for it. Poor production is the only thing keeping this from being Metallica's best- and I'm not criticizing for this reason- this is an awesome album- but a little more bass and it would be damn near perfect. 5 stars- production aside- this is Metallica at their creative peak- not that I hate the new stuff or sling around the word sellout- the new stuff just doesn't really grab me.
Rating: Summary: ...and justice for all Review: I was a teenager back in the eighties. Being a thirteen/fourteen year-old kid is always a hard time - but if you listen to heavy metal you can sometimes purge all your insecurities and fear while you plunge into the music. That being said, this album is not only one of the best metal album of all times: it is a catharsis. I remmember when I first heard it: a friend of mine lended me his walkman after school and I really couldn't believe how increadibly complex and fast were the songs. Many years after that I still have strong feelings about this album. I'm pretty sure Metallica could never replicate a tenth of what they acomplished here - I don't think they even tried. "...And Justice for All" is still fresh, gutsy and heavy - it's the headbanging album "par excellence". Although the production is not so great, it is still amazing to hear songs like "Eye of the Beholder", "One", or "The Shortest Straw". A must-have for all fans of rock in all its forms.
Rating: Summary: Not Quite Review: And Justice for all is a great cd. There is one problem with it. There is only one good solid song on it. "One" brings the cd together. The rest of the songs are also great and very artistic. My fav songs are "blackened", "...And Justice for all", "one", and harvester of sorrow".
Rating: Summary: Part 3 of the Trilogy: Injustice Review: AJFA is the third and final chapter of Metallica's great Trilogy. The lyrics revolve around the theme of injustice and its consequences. The injustices can come from many different sources such as corrupt judges, war, or your own parents. It is their strongest album intellectually, and one of their weakest albums emotionally. Out of all three albums, this is the weakest even though it has brilliant material. What makes this album inferior to the other two is that it seemed like Metallica was getting a little tired of the overly technical arrangements. The enthusiasm just isn't as easily noticed. While many fans would like to have seen Metallica keep progressing in this direction, the band may have felt it was straying to far from its roots. I hate saying this but if you had to find a point where Metallica's decline started, it was on this album. Also, it seems that the person responsible for the bass tracks fell asleep on the job. Yet this is still an awesome album, especially for 1988. Hetfield's vocals improved steadily. He no longer screamed constantly like he did on KILL'EM ALL. Plus Hetfield is also criminally underrated as a lead guitatist. Just listen to his solos on "Master of Puppets" and "To Live Is to Die". His acoustic and softer electric playing is incredible as well. Hammett's lead playing displayed the correct proportion of speed, innovation, unpreditability, and most importantly feeling. Ulrich, whose drumming is more about aggression than technique, was the right drummer for the job. But sadly I really can't say anything about Newsted since you can't hear him anywhere on this album. Who knows, one day in the near future they may rerelease this album with a bass track. That version might actually be better than MASTER OF PUPPETS. Overall rating: 4.75 stars.
Rating: Summary: The Essential Metal Album Review: This album is the ultimate metal album for any metal fan. Metallica went where they, nor any other band, have ever gone into recorded music with ...AND JUSTICE FOR ALL. Although the bass is nearly inaudible, the drums dominate this album, for probably the first time in metal history. The heavy guitars are also very well crafted, especially in the songs ONE and ...AND JUSTICE FOR ALL. In the solos of BLACKENED and EYE OF THE BEHOLDER have almost an Indian sound to them. If you're looking for a Metal album with heavy riffs and fast solos, this is the one to buy.
