Summary: Metallica's greatest acheivement.
Review: This is by far the best album ever recorded. Not just in heavy metal, but for all of music. Metallica also managed to construct this milestone of an album without the legendary Cliff Burton. This is heavy metal but it isn't noise. Metallica are excellent musicians. Every song is produced and written to perfection.

Summary: Where did the BASS go?
Review: I am a big Mettalica fan and this is their second best album, only surpassed by Master of Puppets. But to change the topic to somthing more relevant, where is the bass in this album. I have listened long and hard to this album and can not hear a thing. In the album it says the Jason Newstead is the bassist but I think they made this album right after Cliff Burton died, and before they got Jason as their new bassist. Someone else please listen to this and email me with what you think. And on another count Why did Metallica have destroy their good name with this Napster thing? my email is wanker427@yahoo.com

Summary: Awesome
Review: This album is one of metallica's best it came right in the middle of there best years of material (1986-1991).Master Of Puppets was a total mind blow but this album continues where Master started.Without Cliff Burton the band still pulls of a great album.THe album has great singles like Harvester Of Sorrow and One and it has great epics like the masterpiece title track and Eye Of The Beholder.Other hilights include The Shortest Straw and Blackened.

Summary: WOW
Review: Ok, I just got into Metallica. I liked their new stuff but I love their older stuff. My car system can't even handle the base on some of these songs. I love this album and recommend it to all who like true Heavy Metal. This is one of my top albums I own, and I own a lot.

Summary: Not Metallicas best, but their most powerful.
Review: "And Justice for All" is no where near Metallicas best, but it has to be tough being the album in between two master pieces such as "Master of Puppets" and "The Black Album". One dissapointing aspect of "And Justice for All" is that it has such shoddy production. Jason Newsted's bass line is just about invisible, and Hetfields voice is so loud compared to everything else that you dont hear the hard hitting riffs of every other instrument. But on the pro-side, it does start out incredibly powerful with the riff-happy "Blackened", it pounds at your skull and just begs to be headbanged to. Also there is "One" which is ten times better than "Enter Sandman" and has a great solo. The album ends on another powerful note with the anger filled "Dyers Eve" in which Hetfield yells at his parents for their flaws. With all the good songs on "...And Justice For All" its hard to believe that there are better Metallica albums. I say start your collection with "The Black Album" or "Master of Puppets"

Summary: Great, But Not Quite Their Best
Review: In terms of songwriting, this is probably Metallica's best album, however in other areas it leaves a little something to be desired. It's a great album, don't get me wrong, but a slight disappointment following two classics. Jason Newsted's bass is nearly inaudible, and some of the songs lack melody and are structured strangely, resulting in a lot of long songs, which can be good or bad depending on who you are. However, the title track is a good song, and One was their best song up to this point, and is still one of their best. A good album, but not of of the band's very best.

Summary: Another Masterpiece from Metallica
Review: Buy this album because its a fine piece of rock music from Metallica. Even with poor production due to the invisible bass play, most of the songs sound good with the exception of Harvester of Sorrow and Frayed Ends of Sanity which in my opinion are not bad songs but not good either. Anyway all I wanna say is, anyone who is says that heavy metal is a dead genre is an idiot just like Fausto Chavez because he doesn't know anything about Metallica albums. But just go and buy And Justice For All because it is a heavy metal masterpiece. REST IN PEACE CLIFF BURTON aka one of the greatest heavy metal bassists of all time.

Summary: Poor production-but who cares...
Review: This album is Metallica, and metal itself, at it's ultimate best. The poor production does nothing to its edge whatsoever! You've got the song "one" on this Cd, probably their best hit song of all time( and NOT Enter Sandman). For me, the highlights are Blackened, The Shortest Straw, and Dyers Eve. Especially Dyer's Eve. Its explosive anger and its original and shocking lyrics make it in my opinion Metallica's second-best song of all time,( next to Disposable Heroes).

Summary: Fantastic songs amidst a muddy sound..
Review: Had Metallica bothered to produce this album, it would've ranked right up there with Master of Puppets. As 'And Justice for All' stands, it's Metallica's most progressive, ambitious album. Continuing in the direction from their two previous albums, the theme here is, obviously, Justice, or the lack thereof in today's society. Much of the songwriting was inspiried by the death of their bassist Cliff Burton, giving it a bitter, tough edge to offset the poor overall sound of the mix.

As with all of Metallica's early material, there's a few bonafide metal classics here yet the entire album is worthy. One, Dyers Eve, and the title track are the most immediate and stand out the most. (perhaps because they're the least affected by the poor production). This was Metallica pushing every last bit of their progressive ambition from themselves, perhaps knowing that a change in direction was in order, they wanted to clear the slate, a la Led Zeppelin and Physical Grafitti.

A couple of the sounds do sound almost like 'gasp' filler, but the album is almost a concept in itself, so this can be accepted. It did give the band it's first taste of mainstream success with it's first single 'One', gaining heavy MTV support with it's chilling, provacative video. Throughout the album, ultra-complicated song structures abound in just about every effort, keeping even the near 10-minute title track from sounding boring in the least, and elevating 'One' to status of one of Metallica's best songs, perhaps, THE best.

And Justice for All is definitly worth the pickup, standing with the rest of Metallica's early material as some of the best metal albums out there. Yes, the production is muddled and dry, but it gives the album almost a darker feel that is, in fact suitable after the tragedy the band was beset by. It's an album that will grow with each subsequent listen.
