Summary: The perfect book to help you through...
Review: This book is especially helpful if you're experiencing a painful situation (death, divorce, any type of loss), when every moment feels like an eternity, and you need someone/something to turn to. You can read it from beginning to end (it walks you through various stages of healing, from loss/despair to forgiveness/hope), or you can skip around to sections that are meaningful in a particular moment. Written by 2 counselors and a poet, it contains a perfect blend of practical, healing advice and soothing words/affirmations. Recommended for all readers--any gender, any age--even for those who would never open a self-help-type book. It's the kind of book you can refer back to. It's also makes a perfect gift for a friend or family member in need. (If you're thinking of sending this as a gift from far away, and you haven't had a chance to see the book, you can trust that it will be well-received by your friend/loved one.)

Summary: What's up with that publisher?
Review: I echo the disbelief and irritation of the other reviewers. This book has been so helpful for my personal losses and I always send it to people who haven't heard of it when they need simple wisdom about grief. I'm totally baffled that such a sweet, important little book would go by the wayside when it's obviously so popular.

Summary: WHAT? Out of print?!?!
Review: Very Very helpful resourceful book! I have read that book over and over to help with the loss of a best friend, a love, a pet, a relative...it is just a wonderful book!

Summary: Excellent
Review: This book is to be used, not just read. These Words in the Beginning really prepare you for what's coming. If you can read the book, relate to the poems, and apply them to your own experiences, then you'll have no problem getting over any past relationship. I copied down poems that I could relate to and still have them with me. This book can help just about anyone that needs that extra boost to help them get through they're problems. I wish I could meet the author(s) and find out what drove them to write this book. Great job on a well thought out book. ALL THUMBS UP ON THIS ONE!!!

Summary: How to survive the loss of a love
Review: It should be called "How to regain your sanity" Of all the books I've read and used since my divorce, this is the one I reccommend and give to friends. The logical advise, and somewhat illogical poetry are just what the doctor ordered. I've given over a dozen copies to friends over the years. My own copy is 12 yrs old and a much loved old friend. No matter where I am in my life, it has helpped. A truely wonderful book.

Summary: Emotional healing for broken hearts - excellent!
Review: Let's face it, abandonment hurts. There would be more charity in murder. But, if your heart has been broken, if you are the one who wanted the relationship to work, if you are the one left behind - this is the perfect book for you. Buy it.

In it you will find short, one page chapters chock full of important reminders, proverbs, advice and practical suggestions. Throughout the message is constant - let yourself hurt, take responsibility for your own pain and your own healing, you will survive, you will smile again, life really is worth living.

Accompanying every chapter is a short, one page, free verse poem. Nothing has ever helped me feel more than these did.

I read most of this book while sitting in a city park one sunny, Sunday afternoon. All around me were families playing with their children. Inside I was bleeding, and frequently crying. It took at least two more years to get over being dumped, but my healing started that day. Maybe your's will, too.

Summary: This Book is a Gift
Review: In 1985, a therapist recommended I read this book. This, of course, was shortly after my father died. I was surprised how comforting the book was (especially since I thought all matters of the heart could be dealt with rationally). This book is a gift. As either a therapist or friend, I typically recommend this book to others who are struggling with the pains of grief and loss.

Summary: How to Survive the Loss of a Love
Review: This book has been beside my bed for over 20 years, since it was first published by Leo Press in Detroit. Through the years I have shared countless copies with others. I find it incredible and unbelieveable that this wonderful book is out of print! Hopefully, another printing is in the works.

Summary: Put Pressure On The Publisher!
Review: I also can't believe this book is out of print! As a psychotherapist I have recommended it to many of my clients and I have seen the benefit they have received from it. It is written from both the left and right brain perspective, easy to read and invaluable for alleviating pain. The exercises are simple, hopeful and rewarding. I think it's a national treasure and should be preserved! <smile)
