Rating: Summary: Gabaldon Fan From Page One. Review: I have read all four books in this series including the Scottish title Cross-Stitch. These books are the best series of romance novels that I have discovered in a long time. Not only are they long enough to be worth picking up but they don't lose the reader in the process of telling the story. After reading the first three books I took a trip to Scotland to visit Culloden battle field and happened to visit on the anniversary of the battle. The ceremony honoring the brave highlanders was such a moving experience it brought not only Jamie and Claire to life but also every other highlander who gave his or her life for the future of Scotland. I reccommend these books to anyone who has a romantically fanciful mind and a love of history.
Rating: Summary: An Absolutely Wonderfull and Worthwhile Book!!! Review: I loved Outlander!!!!! It is an enormous book, yet I read it in three weeks!!! And afterwords, I could not stop thinking about it! THis book will move anybody! The characters are so rich and well developed! Miss Gabaldon's vivid description of the lush Scotland are absolutely remarkable! She tells the story so well, it is like you are in the book, witnessing each exciting happening! I would recommend this book to anyone!!! Action, romance, adventure, time travel, Scotland.......it is all there! I can't wait to read the rest of the trilogy!
Rating: Summary: Boring Review: I found this book to be boring and predicable. 600 pages of 2 characters running around in a little circle. First, let's devise a little adventure. Let's jump into bed and have great sex. Let's do it again. Let's do it again and again and again. Boring.
Rating: Summary: First class fiction, history and romance Review: For three months the book cover put me off--I'm not the romance-fiction sort, but what a surprise when I finally settled down to it! Although there is plenty of both sex and romance, I think it is a disservice to call this book--and the others in the series "romances". There is solid history here; a story well-constructed, with plausible characters and dialogue. Ms. Gabaldon succeeds so well in setting the scene and dialogue I was astonished to discover she is not English and had not been to Scotland until the book had been written! (She's not a nurse, either--I am, and the medicine's good too!) Most highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: A bunch of boarish nonsense! Review: Excuse my one line summary, this novel started out alright, had me interested, but then I just got bored! This was me reading this book : interesting, boring, boring, interesting, boring, boring...Basically not enough interesting parts to keep me fascinated! I liked Claire, at first, but now she just seems like a Ninny! And Jamie, oh, baby you are hot, let's make love 24/7! As if, god they couldn't keep their hands off each other for 5 pages! Sex scenes are amusing at first but after awhile : GIVE IT UP! I would have gone back to Frank, would have left the first chance I got! I will read the rest of the books in these series but if I find myself bored to death don't be surprised! And Diana Gabaldon, you may not have intended for this to be a sappy romance but IT IS!!!
Rating: Summary: Best time-travel story yet. Review: This book was so well researched that you believe you're a time-traveler yourself. Ms. Gabaldon takes you back to Scotland in the 1700's with such clarity that you feel every emotion that Claire does. Also, Jamie is one of the best heroes of the century. Did men really communicate that well and with such passion in the 1700's? If so, where are they now?
Rating: Summary: An epic; I have not read a book this good in a long time. Review: What a book! I couldn't put it down. I was wrapped up in the story, the history, the politics, and the characters. I have recommended this book to all my friends, and am impatiently waiting for the next book in the sequel (The Fiery Cross).
Rating: Summary: Move over Romeo & Juliet - Jamie & Claire have arrived! Review: For the last 16 years I've believed I would never find a romance novelist that I enjoyed as much as Kathleen Woodiwiss.....but Diana Gabaldon has done the impossible! I've read this 4 book series and my only regret is that I'm not able to erase them from my mind so that I can devour them again and again. These books are jam packed with historical, cultural and scientific information, yet you are so spellbound by the characters that you aren't even aware that you're reading much more than a romance novel. Jamie & Claire are so much more than characters in a book, they are REAL people. The author's inate ability to bring them to life is beyond compare. Once you begin reading, you will live and breathe their every moment with utter fascination and a resounding refusal to put the book(s) down. No one's imagination could ever create a more perfect man than Jamie Fraser or a more perfect companion than Claire. I can't even begin to hope that Ms. Gabaldon will be able to match much less surpass the sheer enjoyment her readers have been treated to in this series, but she has an incredible fan base throughout the world now and the pressure is on. Diana....give us MORE!
Rating: Summary: A breathtaking novel, not to be missed. Review: I first came across cross stich (Outlander)which I presume is the British title for this novel about a year ago. Since then Claire and Jamie have been in my thoughts constantly, I often wonder what it would be like to be claire and how I would have coped with the life she had with jamie. I have read all four books in the series so far and they just get better and better, please, please, please can we have some more. Diana Gabaldon is one of the most inovative writers of period time travel fiction that I have ever read. So get yourself down to the nearest bookstore buy a copy, sit back and let the magic begin, because I garauntee you w'ont want it to end.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic read!! Review: When I finished Outlander I started looking for similar books. I couldn't believe I had actually stumbled onto a trilogy. I really enjoyed this book as well as the others. I also hope their are more in the works. Thanks for such a wonderful read!!!!
