Rating: Summary: Exciting and Captivating! The action never stops! Review: This book is an Awesome combination of Time Travel, legend, history, Danger, Action, Suspense, Romance and Love. I fell in love with the Characters!!! The characters never come up for air, they're constantly on the move, bringing so much adventure to each word written! I can't wait to start the next one!
Rating: Summary: the first in a wonderful series Review: Although it's been 3 1/2 years since I first read "Outlander", episodes in the book remain very fresh in my mind. The three books which have followed are equally memorable, although the fourth one ("Drums of Autumn") has a few weak spots. Jamie and Claire are two of the most wonderful characters ever created, and despite the rather fantastic nature of the story line (i.e. time travel), they are realistic to the point where the reader feels like he/she knows these people. There are going to be two more novels in the series, and until the next one comes out, I guess I'll be re-reading "Outlander", "Dragonfly in Amber", "Voyager" and "Drums of Autumn"!
Rating: Summary: Escapism that just keeps on giving... Review: I am Scots-obsessed to begin with, so when I saw tartan on the cover and "Scottish Highlands" in the synopsis I bought it without a second thought. It turned out to be the only book that's made me laugh out loud, cry real tears then hunt through my history books and maps for MORE. Needless to say, I have lent it to others who have become more obsessed with the series than I and the last person didn't return it! A special thank you to Ms. Gabaldon who usually rolls into our town on her tours right around my birthday. As a result, my copies of "Voyager" and "Drums of Autumn" made wonderfully autographed gifts from my husband (my own Jamie). My only disappointment came when I stepped inside a stone circle near Inverness and managed to remain in present day!! Looking SO forward to more!
Rating: Summary: This book was one of the best books I've read. Review: This book & the other 3 in the series were interesting, funny, sad, loving and historic. They were spellbinding books, almost impossible to put down once you started them. I read the books months ago but I still remember the characters as though they were very good friends. I work in a large office building and all the girls read these books and even had a luncheon to discuss them. Everyone who I've loaned the books to agree - this author is fantastic! She describes everything so well you feel as if you were there. She doesn't spend pages on one subject (such as sex scenes) but she does cover the subject quickly and well - she doesn't bore you with it. She is writing two more books in this series and all the girls in our building are anxious to read them. I would recommend these books to anyone who enjoys reading.
Rating: Summary: The Greatest Novels Ever! Review: I have not been the best reader most of my life. But I got into reading Danielle Steel and other well writen love stories that have a plot to them in just the past couple of years. A friend that I worked with suggested that I read Outlander. When I first started reading it I told her that I wasn't sure if I could finish because the Scotish dialect was hard for me to read. She encouraged me to keep going that I would get used to it. I did, and got so involved that I couldn't put it down. Before I knew it I was ordering the next book and the next. I laughed and cried out loud. I have never been so moved by any author before. I would like to get the chance to meet Diana Gabledon some day to give her a hug and tell her how her books have enrichened my life. I look at reading now as a chance to take myself away to another land far far away from the hum drum of the regular grinds of life as we know it. She has a real gift. I can't wait for her next set of novels.
Rating: Summary: This is a story you never want to end! Review: Diana Gaboldon has taken history and put it into a very real life adventure that envolves constant action, changes, and you fall in love with the characters.!!It is for devoted readers who never want a story to end. I absolutely loved it and the continuing rest of the series!
Rating: Summary: What a great beginning! Review: Outlander is a good beginning to what I hope will be a great series. The characters were well-defined and the story moved at a steady pace. I found it thoroughly enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: Are you in love with Jamie yet? Review: Whoa... how amazing is this book??? At last, a love story with a point! Time travel is so fascinating... don't you just love that Scots dialect? It took me a while to get the hang of it at first, but it makes the whole thing so much closer to the reader... Jamie and Claire have got to be two of the most believable and real characters I have ever "met"... this story is so romantic, it practically hurts. You gotta love Jamie, though... he's like a little boy and a big, strong man all at once. Not too much sex, but it's just gooey enough to keep things interesting. This woman really knows how to write.
Rating: Summary: One of the most amazing books I have ever read. Review: This was recommended to me by a friend, someone who has often suggested books to me. As I have always enjoyed her recommendations, I thought I would probably like this one also. However, this book went far beyond my expectations. I began to read one morning about 10am and finished the book that night about 2am. I could not stop reading, and that is the first time in my life that I can truly say that about a novel. Exciting, historically accurate, thrilling are just a few adjectives I can think of. This book will make you laugh, cry, and marvel.
Rating: Summary: Great Enjoyment Review: I listened to all four of the audiotapes and enjoyed every one of them. I started with Voyager (a bit out of sequence here) and it entertained me so much that I started from Outlander and worked my way through the series. Although it is better to read (or as in my case, listen to) them in sequential order, Diana gives enough background in each to let a reader understand what happened in previous books without becoming tedious or boring. I especially liked the way she wove her tale around the heroine's two husbands (present and past), with her 'present' husband's ancestor being the enemy of her 'past-day' husband.
