Review: Tells the story of a young, black girl and her older brother trying to survive in Stamps Arkansas with their grandmother and their mentally ill uncle.This girl and her family goes down a rough road,but her faith is strong a comes out defeating the demons that tried to stop her and her family from living the life the always wanted...being together.

Summary: Maya Angelou's novel was very entertaining.
Review: We did a collaborative review for our 9th grade Honors English class on I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, by Maya Angelou. We all had slightly different opinions about the book, but overall we all enjoyed reading it. The adventures in her life not only amazed us, but entertained us as well. We liked reading about her struggles, strifes, and accomplishments. Angelou did a great job of displaying the racism of America and the "difference" between blacks and whites. The struggles of understanding herself and her family were portrayed in the interesting novel. We recommed it to anyone interested in African-American history.

Summary: An Inspiring Story
Review: This book put us (a high school book group) in the shoes of a young african-american girl growing up in the south during the depression. Our group of five people only marginally enjoyed the book. This autobiography contained adventure, and sadness. An example is when Maya had to live in a junkyard for a month and survive. We couldn't relate to the time peiod or southern living, but the book still appealed to each of us in our own way. Mrs. Angelou did a great job making the characters come alive and become the people that they are. We sympathized for Maya because of her tragic childhood. These misfourtunes in her life made her a wonderful writer, and an interesting person. The book was a page turner because all the group members couldn't wait to see what happened next. It was a real history lesson about things that we will hopefully never experience. For example, racism, murder, rape, leaving home, and growing up. For one member of this group reading this book made him depressed, because the entire book had a gloomy undertone. We all agreed the ending came suddenly and left something to be desired.

Review: This Book was very good, Maya had an interesting life. Well to bad it wasn't all. The think about it is why does it have to have embrassing parts making you think all white people will do something like that!

Review: Maya writes with true honesty. It is very easy to relate to her feelings and emotions.The use of her words and real life experiences are surprising and unexpected. I suggest reading all of her autobiographies. It is really an eye opening experience. The honesty in her work is what makes her reading so interesting. She tells it how it was and like it is. The use of her words to send across her message is quite phenomonal. So is she.

Review: This book was amazing! It makes you feel great inside and her emotional stories warm your heart up. In the book Ms. Angelou tells us about some of the most horriffying and emotional times in her life. I usually son't enjoy autobiographies but this one was great.

Review: I feel that this book is a great educational tool for high school students. It shows another aspect of life that most students know nothing about and could help students to understand an experience unlike their own. I feel Angelou is a strong woman to face her pains so publically by writing this book.

Review: The frank narrative makes this book more interesting, but it didn't leave me caring that much. I respected Maya Angelou because of her extremely difficult life, but that didn't mean I wanted to hear about it.
