Rating: Summary: It goes on "Forever" Review: After reading Deveraux's "Summerhouse" (and absolutely loving it), I was anxious to be taken on another ride of romance...and, boy, was I ever taken for a ride -- out to the country with a looooonnnngggg walk home! This was ABSOLUTELY the worst book I've ever read in my entire life! It was horrible! I kept thinking it would get better, but it never did. I forced myself to finish it (I'd spent the money already) but even the last page was awful. The characters are completely unbelievable. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the magic and witchcraft. That stuff is fine (actually, that's why I bought the book in the first place). It's how the characters are portrayed. Darci is an idiot. When Adam buys her some new clothes, she won't even hang them in the closet...she has to walk around with big moon-eyes showing them to total strangers. I mean, really, who does that? There are several instances when her reactions are just completely unbelievable...the stuff with the mind control (or "pushing" people to do what she wants) is okay and Deveraux explains it well. But Darci's life background just doesn't fit with this innocence thing. And then there's all the coincidences...Darci's father falling for Adam's sister. Give me a break! That's just too creepy! The average rating for this book so far is 2½ stars...that should tell you something. I wanted to buy another of Deveraux's books...but I don't think I ever will because I'm afraid it will be just as awful as this one and I'll feel that knife in the back again! I would have given this one zero stars...but that wasn't an option.
Rating: Summary: FINALLY somewhat back to normal! Review: I have loved Jude Deveraux's books for quite a while now, but lately it seemed that her writing had taken a rushed, undeveloped turn. I liked her older stuff MUCH better. However, this book was much closer to her normal style. I liked the characters again! I agree with many of the others though in that the characters are still not as fully developed as they used to be and that the ending petered out when it could have been great. I know she can write great endings and not the typical romance epilogue.
Rating: Summary: Great plot - poor romance and ending Review: The story had great potential...original, unusual and suspenseful. The romance between the characters wasn't so great. I didn't feel the connection. They were more like friends than lovers - and I think they only kissed twice. Was this classified as a romance? The ending was the worst...it could have built up into such a great ending, but the author stops abruptly and goes straight into the epilogue, describing the ending there. It loses its momentum and its excitement and just ends. I gave 3 stars because this book was very good up until the very end (if you could get over the friendship/romance of the two main characters with very little chemistry) It could have been so much more....
Rating: Summary: The Montgomery Family is back!! Review: The first romance novel that I read was Jude Deveraux's "A Knight in Shining Armor." I fell in love it and have kept up with her work ever since. Over the years I have read every Kane/Taggert/Montgomery book she has ever written and enjoyed each of them. Ms. Deveraux does not disappoint her readers with this latest offering. Adam Montgomery is haunted by an early childhood trauma - his kidnapping as a toddler and the disappearance of his parents. He lives his life searching for --- something, but what that something is, he doesn't know. When Adam finds out he has a sister alive somewhere, it mobilizes him to act. To find her, he is told he needs help. Adam finds it eventually in the person of Darci Monroe, an enthusiastic waif-like young woman with some odd abilities she calls her "True Persuasions." Together they must overcome an evil woman, her dangerous minions, and a magic mirror using their brains, love and a touch of some otherwise unknown special abilities. Ms. Deveraux has always been able to draw people into her plot and make some of the most implausable concepts seem reasonable. She does so again. I love the touches of magic she trickles throughout this book. It's fun to read and keeps you turning pages to see what happens next. As much as I have loved some of her newer books, I've missed reading more about the myriad Montgomery/Taggert cousins. This is a wonderful book, one that all will enjoy.
Rating: Summary: A Great Turn From the Same Old Stuff... Review: Just when I think that I have read every plot out there, Deveraux charges ahead with something so new and fresh it kept me enthralled until the very last word! She has a definitive style that makes a reader so involved in her stories and this was NOT a disappointment! Yes, the heroine needed a few more yanks in the right direction, but I believe that Derevuax has added so much to her in the space of this book that she has definately became a "real" character and I am very eager to read the following sequels. I love the Montgomery slant to this book, too. Adam's character was perfect for Darci. He didn't let her use and abuse him- he is definately one man who could be strong enough for Darci throughout the exploration of her gifts. A very good book that is worth reading!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book! Really worth reading!! Review: I'm a huge fan of Jude Deveraux. When I started reading this book I just couldn't put it down. I love the whole magic and paranormal idea throughout the book. It adds a new twist compared to her usual romance novels. No, this book has no sex scenes but the plot and storyline is so well developed and great that you totally forget about wondering where the romance is. For those of you other readers who have read in past reviews that she supposedly kills off some Montgomery's that is absolutely false. And there is definitly no mention AT ALL of child abuse being o.k. or good in this novel. Thats just insane how one lady said in her review that she promotes child abuse. Come on lady, we all know Deveraux would never do that, especially with having a son of her own. But I would definitly recommend to other fans of her to go out and buy this book. It's well worth the $8 and I know you won't be able to put it down! Great job Jude and and I can't wait for the 3rd sequel in the Forever series!!
Rating: Summary: Magic! Ehhh. Review: The newest Jude Deveraux novel is very different from most of her others with psychics, witches, and magic mirrors, she goes a little further in this book than in Rembrance, and Sweet Liar. Adam is a MONTGOMERY and he meets Darci the female lead character when she answers an ad. Some of the book was a little corny with Darci being about the goofiest person ever. She and Adam don't really have that much chemistry that I can see its like Ms. Deveraux is running out of Montgomery's to write about so she just uses one of her throw away type men. I did enjoy the secondary storyline characters' romance though not much detail was given about this either. Believe it or not there is not one sexy scene in this book and it does kind of drag along until a bang up finish at the end which was a little too pat and cutsie. I thought this book was just o.k. but don't rush out and buy it just because you like this author. Darci must have used her true persuasion on me to get me to buy it.
Rating: Summary: It is a fun fun book! Review: If you're trapped inside the house due to a rash of thunderstorms, this book would be the best thing to save your mind! It's fast and easy to read and the story is fun to read ~~ if you like magic and spells and a good old-fashioned love story, this book is for you. If you're into serious tomes on life, don't buy this one. I read this book in two days ~~ without toddlers and a husband, I would have gotten this book read in a day if that. It's just a fun love story. Darci is desperate for a job out of Putnam, Kentucky. She is also desperate to get out of her uncle's apartment in NYC. So she answered the call to an ad in the paper to be someone's personal assistant. That person is Adam Montgomery, one of the richest families in noveldom's members. He is on the search for answers to his past and for finding out what happened to his parents. Darci is his only help. Together they go on an adventure, and together, they solve the mystery. It's short and sweet. It's fun and relaxing. It's a great rainy day book or a beach read. Everyone needs one of these books once in awhile ~~ it's just fun! 5-17-04
