Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: The prologue begins with a decent opening, giving the reader the impression that he/she'll be in for a good fantasy ride. The build-up to the point of the story was OK, but a bit dragged out. Too much time was spent focusing on the usual attraction between the lead protagonists (Darci and Adam) and not enough on Darci's journey of discovery of her "supernatural abilities". The climax of the story when Darci is supposed to defeat the evil witch is too rushed. The reader is left wanting to see exactly how Darci eventually disposes of her and the life and death struggle that ensues. All in all, I found the story unbelievable and unrealistic.
Rating: Summary: Not Like the ¿Old Jude¿ Review: I love Jude Devereaux's older books, but this is just awful. She wastes a Montgomery man in a ridiculous story involving a coven of witches, psychics, and black magic. It is a completely unbelievable romance between two people who don't even seem to like one another. Not even funny. This one went in the Goodwill bin immediately.
Rating: Summary: Mediocre at best Review: Like many of you, I have been reading Jude Deveraux for a long time. Also, like many of you, I buy her books just because she wrote them. This time, I wish I would have read the customer reviews before I took the time to read the book. I can't say it was a waste of my time. The book wasn't awful. It was just disappointing to me. I kept waiting for something else ... that never happened. After writing for a period of time some authors seem to become bored with what they have been writing and try to branch out. I understand that. This just seemed to be too much of a branch out for me. I am so used to Jude Deveraux providing a GOOD love story that this one just fell flat for me. In the past, when an author has moved too far away from my reasons for reading their work I have found it easier to just let their books sit on store shelves. I'm not too sure that I'm not at that point with Jude.
Rating: Summary: Forever Review: I have been reading Jude Deveraux for a long time now and I have to admit that this is not her normal book but I think it is better. The characters are so developed and there is so much more humor in this book than most. Darci is hilarious and such a mutli-layered individual! I was apprehensive to read this book because of all of the negative comments but I read more and found several people that didn't understand all of the negative feedback so I thought I would give it a shot. I am so glad that I did. This is not the normal romance. There is a lot more science fiction/paranormal to this book and there are not any sex scenes but I don't think it lacked the love story at all. I don't think a book needs a sex scene to have a fabulous love story. Once I started reading this book I just couldn't put it down.
The only negative thing I have to say about the book is that the ending is very abrupt and left me a bit unsatisfied. There was such a great story the whole way through and then in a couple of pages the whole thing was summed up. All in all I would recommend this book to anyone. It was the most magical book I have read and is filled with emotion. I will just have to read the next 2 books to see if the story is developed more and gives me more satisfaction.
Rating: Summary: Not your average romance, much better! Review: I don't normally read romance books. I have always thought that they were too mushy and didn't have much to them. I hate reading single plot stories. I had read a few in the past that I thought we ok but nothing I would read over a good thriller or mystery. A friend of mine told me to try a Jude Deveraux book and recommended this one. She gets really into all of the romance books so I doubted her but she was right this book was awesome. I have already read the second one and am so excited to read the final book always. The plot thickens and gets more exciting in each book. I do belive I have found a new favorite author. I would highly recommend this book to people who like mystery's and are not normally into the Romance genre.
Rating: Summary: Thriller/Mystery/Love/Comedy - It's just like the movies! Review: I have loved Jude Deveraux's books for years now and I own most of them. This book has so far been my favorite. The thing that attracted me to Jude's books to begin with is they were not the ordinary single plot smut book like many of the other Romance books. They have multiple plots, complex characters and could easily fit into several genres. The reason this has been my favorite is that it goes that next step. It is a great thriller, mystery, comedy, and love story. It is just like a blockbuster hit. I would recommend this book to all Romance readers and non-romance readers alike. The reason I believe a lot of the other reviewers didn't like this book were because they like the mushy ordinary love story. This book has more dimensions and has a lot of wit. There is just so much more going on in this book beyond the love story.
Rating: Summary: Poorly written story Review: I read this book in a day and, like another reviewer, I'm sending it straight to the giveaway bin. The writing style was more like a beginning writer than one with the experience of Jude Devereaux. There was no sizzle between the characters, and I'm not sure I even cared about either one in the end. I got so sick of both of them keeping their secrets, that I figured they deserved to get caught and held forever by the coven! This book skimmed the plot and characters and lacked something more potent to hold it all together.
Rating: Summary: A Great Turn From the Same Old Stuff... Review: Just when I think that I have read every plot out there, Deveraux charges ahead with something so new and fresh it kept me enthralled until the very last word! She has a definitive style that makes a reader so involved in her stories and this was NOT a disappointment! Yes, the heroine needed a few more yanks in the right direction, but I believe that Derevuax has added so much to her in the space of this book that she has definately became a "real" character and I am very eager to read the following sequels. I love the Montgomery slant to this book, too. Adam's character was perfect for Darci. He didn't let her use and abuse him- he is definately one man who could be strong enough for Darci throughout the exploration of her gifts. A very good book that is worth reading!
