Rating: Summary: Two Stars: Only Out Of Respect For The Author Review: I've always been a big fan of Jude Deveraux. I loved Sweet Liar and Remembrance. This book does not hold a candle to either of those. The beginning has the tone and style of a good fairytale. Everything after that first chapter is mediocre at best. The romance between the two main characters isn't interesting or realistic. I was very, very disappointed by the ending. Things were just getting really interesting and the author cuts away from it. The ending is explained in the epilogue. Also, I thought the epilogue's ending was a little too cutesy. The book did have some interesting parts but it never drew me into the story the way her other books have. Skip this one. It's not worth the price. If you've never read anything of her's, don't start with this one. I recommend Sweet Liar, Knight In Shining Armor, and Remembrance.
Rating: Summary: Jude Deveraux is Back! Review: Jude Deveraux is back! I absolutely loved this book. It reminded me of "Knights in Shining Armor". Her last two contempories were okay reading but kind of a disappointment. Forever was both funny and romantic. The characters came to life. I didn't want the book to end.
Rating: Summary: Perfectly fit my mood! Review: I just picked up this book at the airport yesterday and I can't put it down! I wasn't sure if I was in the mood for a romance novel, but the description on the back cover intrigued me because I also like suspense/supernatural novels as well. This book has Jude Deveraux's signature quirky female character who endears everyone to her. This one can be a bit annoying - but it's all part of her charm, I guess. If you are in the mood for a little bit of romance and a whole lot of mystery and witches and spells, I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: If I could give this book minus stars I would. Review: I am very disappointed with this book. What kind of ending do you call what she did? Cheating the reader is what I call it. I've read many of Ms. Deveraux's books (Knight in Shining Armour) one of my all time favorites. Just my opinion, but she has done way better. At least complete the story don't just get to the end and summarize what happened. I won't buy another of her books that's for sure.
Rating: Summary: Charmed by alchemy and the supernatural Review: Jude Deveraux is constantly trying to reinvent the romance genre. Just as her sparklingly original The Summerhouse, Forever sees her stretching our imagination with a surreal realm of supernatural and horror on top of her usual romance fare a la the TV series Charmed. Darci T. Monroe's life turns peachy as she secures a generous-salaried job as gorgeous millionaire Adam Montogomery's personal assistant. What she did not expect is that she holds the link to finding his abducted sister with her psychic powers euphemistically called as True Persuasion. They venture into the morbid world of witchery and sorcery in Camwell, Conn. to investigate the inexplicable disappearance of teens as with Adam's sister and discovers that a fate-revealing Nostradamus mirror holds the key to the thickening mystery... Ms. Deveraux fuses spry fairy-tale charm with story twists of Hensel and Gretel and Snow White and beguiling innocence to her protagonist. She is hilariously goofy and gamine but beneath the facade hides a vulnerable soul that is darkened by the destructive side of her magic and her fragmented childhood. Her love-interest Adam is shattered by the confusion induced by his kidnap and the mysterious death of his parents. Always a lone-child, he seeks unexpected companionship in Darci. Even if the far-fetched ending seems incredulous and rushed, the journey to there is a refreshing adventure with the oddball couple's whimsical chemistry that blends in with the alchemy to wield practical magic.
Rating: Summary: problematic Review: Decent begining and a fairly good middle bit.. I actually enjoyed read this book right up until the ending which was so thrown together and left so many things unanswered that I would hesitate to recommend the book.
Rating: Summary: Jude Deveraux or Marion Zimmer Bradley ? Review: This is a very entertaining book, but it's such a departure from Ms. Deveraux's usual style that I had to keep checking the front cover to make certain I was reading the correct author's name. "Forever" is written very much in the genre of Marion Zimmer Bradley's 'light' Trilogy ("Ghostlight", "Heartlight" and "Witchlight"). There are evil witches, charming innocents, poor souls who are sacrificed to evil and a hero who must help an innocent piece the puzzle together. I enjoyed reading this book very much, but I enjoy reading a variety of genres in literature. For those of you who prefer the traditional Jude Deveraux romance, even with a little supernatural thrown in, this *may* not be the book for you. The thoughts of mutilations and other truly evil images are harsh and scary, in a grown up Harry Potter sort of way. If these ideas are disturbing to you, then this is a book worth skipping. My one point of curiousity is regarding Ms. Deveraux's seemingly 'jumping' style in her writing. This book is a horror/fantasy. Her last book, "The Mulberry Tree", was a murder mystery. I get the feeling she's bored with the romance genre and is stretching her wings towards other styles. Her warmth and humor do shine through, but I must say, this isn't a book I would have bought had it not had Ms. Deveraux's name on the cover. That isn't to say I'm disappointed that I read it...just that it involved a topic I wouldn't have sought out.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not up to usual Deveraux par Review: i was rather excited when i saw this book on the rack. i was thinking it was going to be pretty interesting and she was bringing back all the Montgomerys with it. this book was ok i suppose. the story was kind of interesting but characters left alot to be wanted. the characters had many of Jude Deveraux's usual Character traits. but i just think that his was less planned and couldn't really believe in Adam's Tramatic experience. alot of the Characters just were not a fully developed as they could be. but since it is a Jude Deveraux and i've read everyone of her books except the Mulberry Tree i had to give it at least a three. but even if you don't like this book try another one of hers she's usually really good! well have loads of fun.
Rating: Summary: Total waste of money Review: I think this book was done because she had a contract to satisfy. It was a total waste of my time and money. I was disappointed because I really love her writing. One of my favorites is "A Knight in Shining Armor" by Ms. Deveraux. This one makes me think maybe I should wait until the books are in the library. I know I will not purchase one of her books in hardback. I can wait for the paperback issue. This book, in my world, is equivalent to a Harlequin romance novel written in the 70's. It is pure fluff.
Rating: Summary: The story just fell apart Review: Let me preface my review by saying I really do like Jude Deveraux. I think her historical romances are top notch and her contemporary novels are insightful and real page-turners. Sadly this was not one of her best. I was very intrigued by the story premise of a main charcter with paranormal powers and how she is involved in this witch-coven storyline. Unfortunately, her main charcter Darci was too naive almost for belief. Even if you could move past that (we often do here in the romance genre), the suspense and excitement was ruined by the anticlimactic, disjointed ending. I just don't understand why Jude broke up the most exciting ending by adding an epilogue in the middle of it, then proceeded to kill your interest by having the climax explained by one of the characters rather than by actually describing it. Just weird. Inconsistent and weird. Not to mention frustrating. Could have been a good one - but instead it just fell apart.
