Summary: It got the book as my birthday present...
Review: 'Sophie's World' contains much information about philosophy and the idea of mixing it with a fantastic story about Sophie Amundsen is great.
It makes philosophical ideologies the whole lot more bearable than those shown in boring dictionaries. It really made me become interested in the issue.

Because of that book I wasn't able to learn for a Physics test until I finished reading. Unfortunately, it was too late. I got '1' (equal to an American 'F').

Summary: This is one of the best books I have ever read
Review: This book is so incredibly wonderful, It has touched me and made me take a deeper interest on the subject of philoshophy , It was so wonderful to me because I have often wondered everythng , and I have read it 12 times over and over just yo rethink everything and get a different opinion.

Summary: It's like the matrix.
Review: The concept of the whole book is like the matrix and has a strong bearing with the Eastern religious studies of finding the truth , instead of believing the truth or blind faith. Otherwise, it's a good starter to get to know your friendly pals, Socrates and Co.

Summary: This book has led me into the world of philosophy
Review: Before I read this book, I didn't understand what philosophy is and had a unfair view on it too. However, after I've finished it, I feel how great the world of philosopy and express my feeling to some of my friends. Someone have been contracted by it but someone still think philosophy is a absurd subject, just like what I used to think. But now I've know that never comment on the subject which you know little. Thank you, Jostein Gaader. You've brought us a miracle.

Summary: This is NOT just a history of philosophy. . .
Review: In an excellently written book, Jostein Gaarder takes the reader on a trip through Sophie Amundsen's world filled with interesting twists and turns. The greatest thing I pulled from reading this book was not, though, a basic knowledge of the history of philosophy. The message that I am afraid a lot of people are missing is that we must not loose our sense of wonder about the world. I have read this book several times now, yet it never fails to make me take a new look at my life. This book is great if you really want to think about what's important in life and keep an open mind in the process. I have recommended this book to several adults now (I am 16), and I have found that after they got over the initial implausibility of the book, they usually found some of the meaning.

To anybody that is thinking of buying this book, I would greatly recommend it, as long as you are willing to read it with an open mind. I know it's changed me. I would especially recommend this book to teenagers, though, because the book's light nature might not go over so well with "serious thinking adults."

Summary: A SOFT INTRODUCTION TO PHILOSOPHY
Review: I recommend this book to everyone who is interested in philosophy in early ages.I read this book about two years ago when I was fifteen and learned so much about life and basic points of philasophy.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of the greatest books I've ever read. Highly recommended
Review: For a starting the idea of this novel is great, because it's a mixture of a story with the most resumed history of philosofy, since greek philosofers up to contemporary philosofers. The story tells how a teenager discovers the world around her taught by a philosofer that suddenly appears in her life and teaches her not to live in the mediocrity of humanity, to delve deeply in questions as who you are, or how the world began. This book is great for teenagers because it helps them to think different and to analyse all these types of questions and not to become into pragmatics.

Summary: I loved this book!!
Review: Sophie's World is one of the best books I've read in a long time. Not only entertaining, but also helped me grasp some of the philosophy concepts that I'd never quite understood in school. A very engaging story. I've given copies to friends - no one has been disappointed.

Summary: A complete waste of time
Review: So, this is the book I have heard so many of my friends rave about. I read it, only to find out it is utterly uninteresting, flatly written and boring.

I have a basic knowledge of all the great philosophers, and the subject itself is inifinitely fascinating. The only thinking Gaarder's book inspires, however, is how precious time is and what a pity it is to waste it reading books like this. There's so many great books out there, and people still claim this is a masterpiece. Get real!

Maybe it works better for the absolutely uninitiated, but still there's better ways to approach the subject.
