Rating: Summary: Keeps you hooked Review: I absolutlely loves "Sloppy Firsts" and I can not wait to read the follow up novel if their shall be one. I was dissapoined in the end for one reason that you will discover when you read it. Megan McCaferty really makes you fall in love with Jessica Darling (the lead character) and you find yourself missing her when you are done the book. A must read for any highschooler.
Rating: Summary: A superior first book. Review: I really enjoyed Meagan McCafferty's "Sloppy Firsts". I bought it brought it home from the store and finished it in a matter of hours. This book is not only funny and down to earth, but it keeps you reading until the last page. I would recomend it to anyone who isn't afraid to read what teenagers think. This actually sounds like something I would hear from a teen. Since I have heard that she is coming out with a second book, about Jessica, I am already waiting to read it. I give this 5 stars for being a great read.
Rating: Summary: Sloppy Firsts- A Fabulous First Novel Review: This book is one of the best I've read. Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. It is a diary/letter format that is easy and fun to read. There is never a dull moment. The book is about Jessica Darling, a 16 year old girl whos best friend has just moved 1,000 miles away. We read about Jessica's struggle to overcome the absence of her best friend, and try to deal with the general highschool population. Megan's depiction of highschool life, the cliques, the lengths people go to to fit in, and the backstabbing is like none other. I HIGHLY recommend this book! EVERYONE should buy it!
Rating: Summary: Sloppy Firsts Review: Sloppy Firsts By: Megan McCafferty * * * * *Sloppy Firsts is one of the best books I have ever read! I would suggest this book to any teenage girl! That's probably the only bad thing about this book: guys won't enjoy or understand it as well as girls. If they do read it though, they would learn a lot about girls! Jessica Darling is the main character. She feels like she has no life after her best friend. Hope moves away. But she does have a life; a very complex life! Jessica thinks just like any other teenage girl: about friendships, school, her social life, her looks, and other things that you will love to read about. This book is basically Jessica's journal with some e-mails to Hope. So it is neat to follow along with her life as it happens. Whenever everything seems to go wrong in her life, Jess runs into Marcus Flutie. He becomes a big part of her life. She has always said that her boyfriend should be like a "male Hope". That's exactly what Marcus is because him and Hope are the only ones who truly understand her, but Jess just cant make herself realize that.....until the end. I believe that any teenage girl will be able to relate to this story. It will make you laugh out loud the whole time your reading. It also makes you think about your own life and how to handle your problems. You will find yourself trying to be a better friend and realizing who your true friends are!
Rating: Summary: My new favorite book! Review:
I admit that when I picked this book up and read the first few pages, I wasn't optimistic about how the book was going to be. But after I got into, I realized how much I absolutely LOVE this book!
Jessica is the youngest daughter to a stereotypical "Blonde" mother and a completely sports-oriented father who talks about nothing but her track record. Jessica's best friend, Hope, moves away, which (she says) forces her to spend her time with a group of dumb cheerleaders, whom she dubbs The Clueless Crew. Jess is "in love" with a senior who doesn't know she exists and has been mysteriously talked to multiple times by one of the school rebels.
Jessica's narrative (written in diary form) is extremely entertaining and funny. I found myself laughing even if I was in public. And I was surprised to find that some of the things that Jess says about her life and the people in it, I could relate to.
A GREAT, fun, entertaining and very memorable read. My new favorite!

Rating: Summary: A novel that lets you remember growing up Review: Megan Mccafferty's Sloppy Firsts is a terrific novel that lets you remember the days of highschool and growing up. Jessica Darling is character who has just lost her bestfriend Hope and is forced to face highschool with friends who she believes are not her real friends at all. She does not start to break out of her egg shell until the help of Marcus Flutie, a so called "dreg" who is mysterious actions help arise curiousity within Jessica and forces her to face her mixed up feelings while he slowly works his way into her heart. This novel is great for even adults cause it helps remember the days of highschool and for those still experiencing it!
Rating: Summary: ---------------------------> A Totally Great Book! Review:
Sloppy Firsts is a great novel which I enjoyed reading very much. The narrator is Jessica Darling, a high schooler, who goes through many experiences and learns a lot along the way. What is Jessica to do when her best friend has just moved away, her dad obsesses over her high school track career, and her mom is too involved with her older sister's wedding to help her other daughter? Jessica must learn how to deal with all these things while tackling other problems which come her way, including her shallow friends, her relationship with one of her guy friends, and bad boy Marcus.
I found that Sloppy Firsts told everything like it is. It reminded me of all of the problems that normal teens go through everyday. Jessica's experiences with friends, boys, and parents really sounded like an account of any teenage girl living in America today. It also dealt with many different issues at once, so that every part of the book was interesting. I couldn't stop reading it. There were so many situations where you wished something would happen and you had to keep reading to see what actually WOULD happen. In fact, I tried to put a limit on what I could read every day (needless to say, it didn't work because I finished the book in 2 days). I just found the whole book very interesting, and thought that the way it was told was very funny. I loved how Jessica was so sarcastic and comical with the way she described everything. Sloppy Firsts is a great book! Thanks also to the reviewer who recommended The Losers Club by Richard Perez, another FUN book I loved.
Rating: Summary: Definitely Worth Reading Review: So overall, this was a good book to read if you have a few hours to kill... the only thing i didnt like was that there is a lot of swearing in it, but hey i guess thats high school. the main character jess is easy to relate to. i would definitely recommend reading this book to anyone in high school or above.
Rating: Summary: Sloppy First Best Book Review Review: I just finished reading Sloppy Firsts. It is 11:30 right now. I usual go to bed at ten, but I just had to finish the book. I myself being almost 15 can relate somewhat to the novel, but it was so entertaining. I havn't read a book outside of school since the sixth grade and this book was definetly the best I can ever imagine reading. The characters are so real and if your one of those people that really gets into books then you will be laughing, crying, and biting your lip most of the time.
Believe it or not the book tells it like it is and portrays highschool just as many students see it. It's light reading that can wiz be, even though it's length is nearly 300 pages. It's about this girl, a Sophomore in High School, and her best friend Hope moves away after her brother died of a drug overdose. Jess goes through school with these prissy girls who arn't really her friends.
She is the classic honors student that is athlectic. In her case she does track. Her father in hounding her about practice. Her mother wants to get in touch with her, since Jess's older sister is moving out and getting married. The is the classic bad boy Marcus Flutie who plays out to be one of my favorite characters. All in all the characters and plot were great and it was a great book.
The ages for this book would probably be at the highschool level or up, because of sexual terms, drug references, and such innuendo.
